25.01.2022 At approximately 12pm today Fire & Rescue along with NSW Rural Fire Service Firefighters were called to a fire in the Parkes industrial estate. Only metres away from a GAS Storage facility. Firefighters once on scene established a control zone and with the help of NSW Police commenced evacuating the occupants both in and around the fire area.... NSW Ambulance Paramedics also attended to ensure firefighter safety and wellbeing. Parkes FRNSW 417 positioned fire appliances around the area of concern and proceeded to extinguish the fire and cool the bitumen tank with the assistance of Parkes Headquarters. Additional fire appliances arrived and were put in strategic areas to ensure the scene was contained. Matthew Street and Ackroyd Street were closed for the duration of the incident to allow firefighters a safe area to move around and contain the fire. Senior firefighters reported there was no persons injured and that their respective crews performed outstandingly in a time where the situation could have quickly escalated to one of a more serious nature. FRNSW Hazmat crews joined the crews on scene and ensured the incident was contained to the area of the premises and had little to no impact on businesses around it. Investigations in to the cause of the fire are still being undertaken by FRNSW.
