22.01.2022 Strengthening your back & abdominal region in 4 pt kneeling. In a 4 pt kneeling position place your hands under your shoulders & your knee's under your hips. Gently press the palm of your hands into the mat this helps assist your chest in a neutral position with your spine. Engage your abdominal muscles by drawing them in towards your spine on an exhalation, practise this for a few breaths so you can feel your tummy muscles working. Then on an exhalation lift your right arm s...traight ahead & up then place down on the inhalation. Notice when you do this what is happening to the opposite shoulder as it is supporting you during the arm lift. Bring your attention to not shifting your spine by keeping it neutral as well as keeping your tummy engaged. This is the challenge to stay stationary in your body & isolate the movement with only one arm moving up & down. Do 5 repetitions on one side then swop, very slowly being mindful of your breathing & your body. Then do alternating arm lifts a set of 10. 19.01.2022 John Garey workshop one month in..... I have implemented the tools from this beneficial workshop about increasing the load on your bigger muscles groups to improve your strength. I must say I personnelly do feel stronger & better for it. Sometimes we get use to doing the same routine's in our workouts just because they feel familiar to you. 19.01.2022 Strengthening your pelvic floor for men.... tips....you need to be able to feel your pelvic floor engage but how? Midstream is a good guide e.g. when passing urine aim to stop at midstream for a short while, if you succeed here then you have a good, functioning pelvic floor, well done! If you did not succeed then you need to strengthen this area. You can feel if it is right by trying this: lift from your testicles as though you are drawing in & up, practise this several times, then at the same time now drawing in your abdominal muscles towards your spine. Having a strong & functional pelvic floor with strong & functional abdominal muscles is essential to prevent back injuries & incontinence, as you can see, the bladder sits over the prostate gland. www.perthpilates.net.au

03.01.2022 Strengthening your core....have a go at this abdominal strengthener. Lye on your back knee's bent, feet slightly apart, on an exhale reach your hands towards your knee's, tuck your chin towards your chest imaging you are holding an apple, engage your pelvic floor while scooping your abdominal region towards your spine. Hold this while you inhale, looking at your abdominal region to maintain the scoop then on an exhale slowly come down, maintaining the scoop all the way.
