17.01.2022 A Doppler ultrasound is often used to listen to the pulses from arteries in the feet. Checking that an artery is healthy is another way to examine lower limb circulation A Doppler is commonly performed as part of a diabetes foot assessment or if you are showing symptoms of vascular abnormality. In a healthy artery, you will hear three sounds (a triphasic waveform) . If only one sound is heard (monophasic waveform) this may indicate poor circulation. An ABI or toe pressure index may be taken for further vascular investigations #podiatry #podiatrist #diabetes

07.01.2022 ABI which stands for ankle brachial index is a useful way for podiatrists to determine if you have adequate blood flow in your lower limbs/legs The ABI is a score that is calculated when comparing the blood pressure of the ankle and the arm. Ideally, the blood flow in the legs should be similar to that in your arm. If the circulation in your feet or legs are significantly lower due to peripheral vascular disease or a block in the artery, the ABI score will be lower.
