18.01.2022 Newsagency marketing group newsXpress has launched a national creative writing competition seeking entries of short stories, poems and songs that relate, someho...w, in some way, to the Aussie newsagency. Find out more here: https://buff.ly/35VL1zk Two cash prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded, one for anyone aged up to and including 17 and the second for anyone aged more than 17. Writers are invited to submit a short story, first person narrative, song or poem. Each entry is required to in some way reference a newsagency, either a specific business or the type of business generally. The local newsagency is the quintessential Australian small business, and through Covid the newsagency channel proved it’s value as an essential service to local communities. We wanted to explore a way of celebrating that. The idea of this competition is to encourage creative writing by Australians, to shine a light on local stories and through these reference in some way the local Aussie newsagency. newsXpress is a collective of over 200 local family owned and run newsagency businesses across Australia, mainly rural and regional. 18.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT: newsXpress creative writing competition winners. Congratulations to Jayda Tram and Chris Van Ingen, the winners of the newsXpress creative writing... competition for 17 and under and open age groups respectively. We are grateful for the many entries received of short stories and poems. They were a delight to read, making the judging challenging, and taking longer than we expected. Jayda's piece, The Back Door, was a wonderful short story will of wonder and fantasy. What a treat. Chris' poem, Breaking News Agency, was inspiring and heartwarming, connecting with hopes and dreams, which can become a reality. We have contacted both winners to arrange the $1,000 prize they each have won. We apologise again for being a few days late in announcing the winners.

A customer, we’ll call her ‘Tess’ for this story, bought one of our R U OK? cards a few weeks ago because she liked the design on the front of sending a hug in the from of a card. She also liked that the cards were made in Australia. She sent the card to her son with whom she’s had a challenging relationship. Anyway, ‘Tess’ was in yesterday and told us that her son had called her to say things were not okay. He’d been laid off and had some health challenges. ‘Tess’... was grateful that she has been able to reconnect with her son. ‘Tess’ told us the story since she bought on impulse from a display at the counter, and saw it was supporting R U OK?. Serendipity, she called it. The card opened a discussion through which ‘Tess’ and her son have become reconnected. The R U OK? cards from Aussie company Henderson Greetings are helping people connect and reconnect in the most wonderful ways.
