22.01.2022 Paul linfoot Racing are proud to offer , The original 1990 Benson and hedges rs500 for sale . This was the last of five Sierra’s raced by the Longhurst B&H Ra...cing Team and the only one built entirely in Australia by the renowned Frank Gardner and Jim Stone. It was regarded at the time as the best Sierra chassis ever built. Completed in early September 1990, the car was tested at Amaroo Park, NSW and then shipped to Bathurst. It was purpose-built to win Bathurst which explains why the built it as a LHD car (because Bathurst is an anti-clockwise circuit). It quickly showed its potential becoming the first car to break the George Fury lap record at Bathurst, setting a new lap time of 2 minutes 13.84 seconds. In 1991, Longhurst moved back to racing BMW’s and the car was sold to Brian Bolwell who competed in the car in the 1991 & 1992 Bathurst 1000 races. The car competed in only 11 races in its history and was purchased by the Bowden Collection in Buderim, Qld in 1994. The car Was sold by the Bowden Family to Carey McMahon in Australia who raced the car with some outstanding results (finishing 2nd in the Heritage Touring Cars Championship in 2016 behind a Nissan GTR, 2nd at Brands Hatch 2019). This beautiful rs500 was brought over to the Uk in 2019 for the now owner Carey McMahon to live out a dream and race the car in the Uk top events , and also selected events throughout Europe . Sadly at the very last event in Portugal the car suffered some panel damage that meant the car had to retire and come back to the UK for repairs Once the car delivered to my workshop a conversation took place between myself and Carey about what to do with the car and it was decided that while the repairs took place the whole car would undergo a full nut and bolt bare shell renovation with every part of the car checked and refreshed as required So,, the engine was sent back to Harvey Gibbs who had previously given the engine a refresh to strip again and checked over . A brand new Engine loom was commissioned by G and G motorsport The gearbox and diff were sent to Bara motorsport , again for a strip and rebuild as required the suspension was sent to Bilstein for a check over and rebuild the Radiator was sent for re core All alloy suspension parts were stripped and crack tested then rebuilt with all new bearings and seals all rose joints were inspected and any changed as required The bodyshell Any damaged panels were not repaired , due to the amazing condition of the car pre accident Carey insisted that any damaged panels were replaced , So the big task of finding genuine ford panels started and sourced ready for the rebuild . All replaced panels were fitted using a spot welder so fitted exactly as per original and being all genuine ford the fit and finish is as good as the day it rolled of the factory line . Again it was decided that as the car was a bare shell that the whole shell be refreshed and painted inside and out and also the underside so there was no variation on the whole cars condition . The underside did have some small dents / scrapes etc that were left as we wanted the car to show some patina from its years of use . All the glass was removed before the car was painted to ensure the quality of the paint was as good as original . The car is almost completed , by the end of the month ( october ) the car will be ready to go , with its new stickers replaced back into the original livery that makes this car so beautiful . This car has had a " no expence spared " restoration with every nut and bolt looked at to make this car as new and ready to race . If you are looking for an iconic rs500 in one of the worlds most famous liveries that wants for nothing then please feel free to get in touch to arrange to view . The asking price is 250,000 to inc spare wheels and a few running spares 07759 729390
21.01.2022 Haltech takes control of SuperUtes Australian engine management specialists Haltech will provide the control engine management package for the SuperUtes categor...y when they return to the track with GM’s LS-based V8s in 2021. Haltech is credited as being the first in the world to develop real-time (programmable with the engine running) PC-based engine management system and has a long history of involvement with Aussie racing dating back to the Group A days of the late 80’s. It is wonderful to be involved with such a great category, said Haltech CEO, Mark Bevan. With the V8 under the hood and a Haltech in control, we’re aiming to breathe new life into this series. Of course, there will be a noticeable performance upgrade, but with our spec tune, we’re also paying close attention to things that motorsport enthusiasts love like the V8 engine noise and flames shooting from the exhaust. The utes will once again be one of the most exciting on-track spectacles. Haltech is not just providing a simple ECU, however. The brains of the brutes are said to be the company’s latest technological advancement: The Nexus R5 VCU. The VCU is a complete Vehicle Control Unit which takes care of so much more than just the engine fueling and ignition. We’ve been working with Haltech to design a package that makes the SuperUtes easy to drive, easy to maintain and most importantly reliable, says Sieders Race Team owner Luke Sieders. What we’ve come up with is actually quite impressive! The one unit obviously controls the engine, but it also does power management, data logging as well as controlling the fuel pumps, thermo fans and even the headlights! Combine that with the near bolt-in engine and body wiring harnesses that all come in the package, and building, racing and fixing one of these utes just got a whole easier! The 2021 SuperUtes calendar is yet to be finalised, so we don’t yet know when we’ll see the utes race in anger, but we do know it is something to look forward to when it happens. The deal with Brock, Perkins and Mobil only ...lasted one year and this car was later converted from VN to VP and shunted in Adelaide. It will be 1 of about 50 cars documented in next year’s book release covering the history of every Perkins Engineering race car - we have been digging out some amazing photos for this book! See more
