20.02.2022 Callum! one of the key members of our awesome packhouse team, embarked on a great career path producing healthy local fruit for Western Australia & beyond. #agcareers
07.02.2022 Cherry fest time! Had the 4th gen doing some heavy lifting today to help with setup for our stall We don’t have many due to the late season, but should have enough to last the morning in our cool trailer next to the Chinese restaurant. Cloudy South juices also available. Should be more around before & after Christmas, but expect prices to be higher than usual due to short supply around Australia & rising costs of production.
25.01.2022 SOS: APPLE THINNERS NEEDED IN MANJIMUP ASAP. A massive THANKS to those Aussies and the handful of backpackers who have turned up to help and stuck with us for more than a couple of weeks. We know it's terribly boring work, and we really appreciate your efforts to bust through the monotony! Also thankyou to our permanent orchard crew and managers. This has been an incredibly stressful and expensive process trying to find workers and keep them. Shout out to our Tongan boys ...who have stuck with us the whole way through this pandemic craziness, and will have been away from their families for a year and a half by the time harvest ends in June. We would quite simply be completely stuffed without them. Apple thinning is a critical stage in getting nice sized apples to your shop shelves next February. If we don't take off the excess small apples before early January, our fruit size will be too small and won't return us enough $. If you have a few spare weeks on hand and would like to earn some cash, work in the fresh Southern Forests air and meet new people, pack your brimmed hat (and flynet!) and email [email protected] You'll get the Christmas and New Year long weekends off....and get to pat yourself on the back for lending a hand to shore up local food supply security :)
25.01.2022 Our sweet & crunchy new season Royal Gala are in store now across WA. They're the first variety to run through our shiny new MAF OCEANIA IDD that checks for internal browning... just one of the many, many ways we try our utmost to bring WA apple lovers the best from The Home of Crunchy Apples :)
25.01.2022 COMPETITION TIME! Live in Hilton, Beaconsfield, O'Connor & surrounds? Buy a kilo of our crunchy #pinkladyapples from the excellent fruiterers at Gilbert's Fresh Hilton this week or next, scan the QR code on the apple sticker & go into the draw for one of four awesome hampers. Each hamper contains a $100 Gilbert's Hilton shopping voucher plus heaps of Newton Orchards goodies like our Cloudy South juice, Giants cider, Giants cap & Pinks gift pack. We've teamed up with #DiMuto blockchain tech to trial the QR codes on apples for the first time in WA, developing opportunities to get closer to our apple lovers and ensure world-class traceability in the food supply chain.
24.01.2022 "What the heck is apple thinning?" said not many people ever. Well, for your edification, here's a master pair of hands thinning very young Bravo apples... imagine doing that all day every day and you can probably understand why some people who started work with us this season left town after only 2 hours on the job. Click on pic for insta-vid.

24.01.2022 Seeking apple pickers for harvest starting mid-late feb through until end May. Decent $ can be earned but you need to be prepared for hard, physically demanding work, often in very hot or cold weather. Interested? Email [email protected]
23.01.2022 Brought the east coast a lot closer to the relatively unscathed west to hear longtime orchard industry friends have been affected We're rattling the tins for @blazeaid who help rebuild fences etc in rural areas long after the news cameras have gone home. Newtons will match any donations made by our staff in January. For those who are short on cash and a little crafty, there are some great fbook communities that have sprung up to sew pouches for wildlife rescue centres. Or... even just plant a few trees this winter We also look forward to encouraging backpacker networks to head east in a few weeks as usual to pick the #aussieapples crop once the all-clear is given.
22.01.2022 A poetic interlude to corona-Pink Lady harvest... pic & poem by Simon Dooley The ripened apple Ready. Birds have come... To feast. Mournful, joyous singing At the sweetness of the taste. Your are what you're becoming, Even on the bitterest of days. And on a summer sweetened morning, All much easier, In all ways. Even as we prepare for winter, And the coming Colder days. See more
20.01.2022 Featuring On the Shoulders of Giants' brand new award winning apple spirit! and ciders. Very much looking forward to a completely unique and wonderfully local event.

If you're keen to explore your state while helping shore up critical produce supply, then visit our new site to register your interest for apple thinning (November-December) and/or apple picking (February to May). 16.01.2022 Thursday 10th, Manjimup...join a legend of our community (and Newton Orchards' honorary family member) Jon Doust pre-Cherry Fest at Two Little Black Birds Cafe for a covid-belated launch of his latest book "Return Ticket." To book see link below.
14.01.2022 We're proud to be first to the shelves in WA this month for Woolworths with our new Australian-sourced recyclable cardboard apple punnets and reduced micron wrap. It comes with additional costs to us, but this commitment will reduce Newton Orchards' plastic by around 9.5 tonnes every year! The punnets are tough and great for any re-use ideas you have, then suitable for your kerbside recycling. The wrap should be placed in Redcycle bins available at most supermarkets.
13.01.2022 To our vital and much-valued international workers - our Tongan men and backpackers - an even bigger thankyou than usual for helping our local team get the crop off. It must be incredibly difficult to be "stuck" away from home and family at a time like this. To those in our beautiful Southern Forests region who do not have work, our teams are full, and we respectfully ask you not to come onto our farms or packhouse. As providers of fresh produce to WA we need to go above a...nd beyond to keep healthy and keep sending fruit out. When we need more staff we will source directly from our excellent local accommodation providers, who are also working hard to keep their guests and community safe and healthy. Wishing everyone well. https://www.abc.net.au//covid-19-coronavirus-wa-b/12074730
12.01.2022 Feeling grouchy/slothy/frustrated/down? Resist the crappy chocolate and grab an apple :)
11.01.2022 we've spotted beautiful new season WA royal gala around for as low as 99 cents/kg. Australian fruit grown to the highest food safety standards and ethical wage payments cost 90 cents a kilo JUST TO GROW ...ie not including packing, transport, storage, levies, royalties, replanting, machinery buying etcetc. Do the maths if you love aussie grown and still want it around in ten years! reposting a spot-on summary from fellow growers down the road Newleaf Orchard Juices .... NEW ...SEASON ROYAL GALA Royal Galas are in season right now (they are the first of the 'big' varieties to be picked) and in our local supermarket they are not on special. Nor should they be. Now is the time when apple growing families begin to see a return on their year's hard work and investment. If the price is too low, it doesn't even cover the cost of picking and packing the fruit. This happened to us a couple of years ago which is why these are not our Royal Galas (but did have a couple of beautiful bonfires over the winter). . We have replanted our orchard in the new, efficient trellis style with varieties we hope will give us a decent return. But to be honest, this is a financial gamble and we hope we are not just being optimistic! . The moral of the story is this: please buy new season apples even when they are not on special, if you can afford to. If we want Aussie apples to be available in our shops we have to pay a fair price. Ours were not the only apple tree bonfires in the area in the last few years... and most farmers didn't replant.
11.01.2022 There are some awesome #farmdogsofinstagram like Rusty who make social media a breeze. And then there's Wombles. Rusty pics, training & granny smith growing credits: Ben.
10.01.2022 NEW, local & delicious: introducing our Cloudy South Apple, Carrot and Ginger juice. All-natural and all-Aussie, it's a refreshingly zesty crush of unlovely looking but juicy Manjimup apples, perfectly imperfect carrots from Sumich's in Lancelin, and just a touch of Australian ginger. Available at excellent indies; if your local doesn't stock it yet, ask them to get some in!
07.01.2022 4th gen first time on the bags with a few best mates.
07.01.2022 NEWS! Introducing our brand new food waste venture, Cloudy South apple juice - the perfect treat for a perfectly non-cloudy summer's day! Naturally unfiltered, locally crushed from 100% Genuinely Southern Forests fruit (that is, the not-perfect-looking apples) with a touch of Vitamin C, Cloudy South aims to return our orchards and our grower partners more of the ever-rising cost of growing great fruit. Instead of imported concentrate, choose treats that help build sustainable next-gen farming opportunities and support ethical wages in local communities!
06.01.2022 Congratulations to the winners of our Pink Lady apple QR code competition with Gilbert's Fresh, Hilton! We hope their families have enjoyed their #cloudysouthjuice and #giantscider treats, and that the $100 voucher helped with Christmas shopping #dimutoblockchain #DiMuto #BuyWestEatBest #aussieapples

04.01.2022 Filmed at industry colleagues' over east, but just as relevant here. No #whingeingfarmer alert, just stating it as it is: bloody hard work out there for everyone this season, and that was before corona. What to do? #AddanApple #chooseugly #choosethebruise #anappleaday
