25.01.2022 Let's take care of our neighbours and our small businesses in any way that we can.

20.01.2022 What a wonderful opportunity to attend this twilight taster course learning from blacksmith Nick Attfield.

20.01.2022 NEW TOWN BUSINESS GROUP The New Town Community Association has set up a business subcommittee that is tasked with connecting the general community with local business. This year our suburb was already experiencing disruption with the upgrade to the New Town Shopping Precinct. The COVID-19 pandemic has eclipsed all the small issues that we may have had and now more than ever communities need to come together to support local business. The NTCA would love to hear from you to di...scuss how we may be better able to promote your business in a way that benefits the community. Please contact NTCA Secretary: [email protected] to register your interest and be updated about the next New Town Community Business Meeting. (Photo courtesy Hobart City Council)

20.01.2022 For twenty one years Jackman and McRoss have been there for you. Now in this dark time of uncertainty they are still open for takeaways, breads, hot cross buns and of course coffee. Support if you can.

16.01.2022 Families across Australia are going on a bear hunt around their local streets. We hope plenty of New Town residents get into the spirit and place a bear in your window to give them plenty of bears to find! (But turn the bears around to face out the window unlike our model in the picture )

15.01.2022 As the rains seem to be set in, we will be moving the carols inside the Ogilvie hall this evening. Come along for a night of (indoor) festive fun!

14.01.2022 Mastering Apps & settings at the Android phone workshop led by NTCA member Michael Collinson. The attendees have learned a lot so far and are ready for the follow-up session. Thank you so much Michael.

14.01.2022 Very well done.

13.01.2022 How great is this? Love these old pictures of our neighbourhood

13.01.2022 SO, we have had our factory floors scheduled to be repaired for quite some time, this will affect the trading of all 3 bakeries. We thought we could complete it... before the second stage of restrictions were lifted, but alas they've come early. ALL 3 STORES WILL BE CLOSED FROM: MONDAY JUNE 8TH until SATURDAY JUNE 13. RE OPENING ON SUNDAY JUNE 14. Inconvenient we know, but some jobs are too big to ignore. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Nerida and Justin See more

13.01.2022 It is very important that we continue to support our local businesses and our community! Don't forget to buy Tasmanian whenever you can. If you are a local New Town business: we invite you to DM us with special offers, changes to service or anything else you would like to advertise on this page! Please let us know what our local businesses are doing, so we can share it. We want to support each other through difficult times.

13.01.2022 Might be a good idea to avoid Bay Road for a little while - there's a burst water main EDIT: all under control now

12.01.2022 What a great contribution these guys made to the carols tonight!

12.01.2022 If you are out and about in Cornelian Bay before 15 June, do not miss the amazing flower coffin sculpture by New Town resident and Year 10 student, Lily Neyland. Plastic flowers - what’s the problem? Lily, a student at The Friends' School, is keen to raise awareness about the environmental impacts created by artificial flowers. She is encouraging people to consider alternatives when placing plastic flowers as a a memorial to a loved one in cemeteries. ... Lily took on this challenge as a major project and created a sculpture of a coffin with a model of the earth inside from wind-blown artificial flowers collected from the boundary fence of Cornelian Bay cemetery. These flowers regularly blow out of the cemetery into surrounding bushland and also into the River Derwent where they persist for a very long time. They pose risks to wildlife and also break down into harmful microplastics. Good alternatives include fresh flowers with the wrapping removed, planting a shrub or giving a donation to charity in place of flowers. (Photo courtesy of The Friends’ School)

11.01.2022 On behalf of the NTCA, we hope all our New Town households are having a lovely, relaxing, chocolate-y Easter, and sharing good wishes with your loved ones - however you can

11.01.2022 Hear all about Neighbourhood Watch at the next general meeting of New Town Community Association. Our advertised speaker has had to bow out and Peter Edwards, CEO of Neighbourhood Watch, will address us instead.

10.01.2022 The NTCA would like to thank everyone who came along to the carols at Ogilvie on Sunday. And a big thank you to everyone involved in organising such a great event. The weather wasn't kind to us, but the community was!

08.01.2022 Garden Fair at Runnymede this Sunday.

07.01.2022 Our locality is good for the soul.

07.01.2022 General meeting this evening - attendance obviously affected by the US election. Our speaker, Peter Edwards of Neighbourhood Watch, was excellent. Thank you to Peter, the committee and all present.

06.01.2022 Sad to see pointless vandalism overnight in Pedder St. Burglary and damage also in Cross St. If you have any information please contact Tas Police.

05.01.2022 Set up is underway for the carols tonight and things are looking very festive

05.01.2022 Another lovely local product.

01.01.2022 New Town residents! Coles is closing tonight for renovation for nearly 4 months.
