25.01.2022 Thanks Maria Do for the photo of me doing what I love! Sharing the love of the game!

21.01.2022 One of the reasons our Club supports the The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Australia and helps our members attain their award through service back to the Club. It helps the Club, helps our members' mental health and in general, is a truly positive experience for all.

21.01.2022 Thanks for the tip, Coach Bell I am going to get some in at lunch! More tips coming soon!

20.01.2022 During adolescence, our teens need our love, support and influence more than ever. What they don’t need is our control. By adolescence, we don’t have any anyway.... We might have the illusion of control, but the harder we push to control them, the more we risk losing them. Our teens are resourceful, creative and brave and if they want something enough they will do it anyway. . When we attempt to control them, we are pushing against thousands of years of evolution and their drive to explore their independence. They can’t make the transition from childhood to adulthood without establishing some sort of separation from us. . They might push against us, and sometimes this will feel fierce. This is not to push us away, but to loosen themselves from under our wing. Sometimes the closer they are, the harder they have to push. And sometimes, in the quest for separation and independence, it’s our connection with them that gets lost. They have important work to do, so it’s up to us as their parents to hold on to that connection tightly enough for them and for us, for whenever they need it. They will come back, but first they have work to do and it’s okay if this takes time and tears and ‘outside voices’ inside. It’s a learning adventure for all of us. . . Whenever we can, we need to nurture the fire in them that is looking to discover who they are. We can do this by asking their opinions, listening more than talking, valuing their insight, and letting them to teach us what it’s like to be in their world. . The more we try to control them, the more we squander our precious opportunities to influence them. They are less likely to come to us if they expect lectures, preaching, shame, judgement or harsh consequences. When the connection with them is there, hopefully, sometimes, they will let us take the precious and privileged place beside them as they explore, learn and grow. So often, our greatest parenting moments and connection with them will happen in the middle of the mess, but first we need for them to offer us a seat at the table. See more

19.01.2022 Get practising!!

19.01.2022 This man is what coaching is all about... the more I read about him, the more I agree with him and wish I'd had a chance to have a coach like him.

19.01.2022 YES! Always seeking opportunities to grow. It is my responsibility, both to myself and to others.

19.01.2022 #Shoosh4Kids, a campaign close to my heart!

18.01.2022 Look after your athletes. Coach women for their phsyiology and anatomy, not in line with male phsyiology. Coach your athletes as the individuals they are with the care and consideration that they need, not judging them all as one. Nurture their strengths, assist them to overcome their weaknesses. More women will play, stay and enjoy being in sport, if you treat them with care, consideration and cherish them for what they bring to the sort, the teams they are part of and the c...lubs they love. Stop putting winning above all else and start taking joy in the 'aha moments', those pure, unaduilterated smiles when the work thye have put in pays off, whether it be the first basket on the court that they have ever made, a team's first ever win, or a young woman stopping to help someone up off the court, when she woudl have previously stepped over them. The way Mary Cain was treated is shameful. The way grassroots sport seems to be inheriting a culture of winning is everything is disgraceful. This is why women are leaving sport in droves after they hit 15+.... Get your club culture right, the rest follows. As a Coach who runs a Club who has 30% female players to 70% men, we are aiming to get as many girls on the court as boys and keep them long term. We think #WarriorWomenRule RULE and should be celebrated at Dulwich Newtown Basketball Club and MVP Basketball! #BeTheMVP and grow your girls strong!

18.01.2022 My personal FB popped up with a timely reminder today... A reminder that I really needed to remind me why I believe in the power of service. I may not always get it right, but I do always do anything I do with the best of intentions.

17.01.2022 Let's bring it, Wolfpack!! Let's howl out our beautiful love for this game of ours! Let's show them how fierce we can be! Wolves on 3!!

16.01.2022 This approach will be essential if we want to grow youth sports for the future and ensure that we don't lose any 'at-risk' children who need sport to survive and have something positive enough in their troubled lives that encourages them to stay alive and live positively. Lét's get back to grassroots and remember why some of us commit our lives to delivering youth sports programs.

12.01.2022 Another one of the greats who inspired me to give back through this great sport of ours has left this world. Much respect and love, Ken Harvey. Thank you for leading the way in a sport that has helped make me who I am today and for continually gifting your time so that others can love the game like you did. Vale, another one of the greats has left us. The worls is poorer for it. Rest in Peach, Ken, and thank you to to the Harvey family for so gracefully sharing him with us for so long.

12.01.2022 So proud of this crew!

12.01.2022 5 rules of success:

09.01.2022 Lovely to promote women's sport and Dulwich Newtown Basketball Club at the Festival today. Thanks Inner West Council for allowing us to be part of your great effort! #weBuildWarriorWomen #Learn2BtheMVP

08.01.2022 Culture doesnt change when a coach tells a player he or she is wrong. Culture changes when players can tell their teammates, "No, that’s not how we do things around here." In great teams, it’s the players who take charge of the culture.

07.01.2022 One of the biggest things I learned while coaching my own mini-me who loves the game just as much as I do, was that I had to be a parent, not a coach, when watching her play. I had to have the back of her Coach every day (Donna Garcia, still do, as my kid is lucky enough to have another Woman Warrior at her back!), and let her know that her Coach knew best. I also had to tell her how much I enjoyed watching her play, then SHUT.THE.HELL.UP! Her game is not my game. Her talents... and participation have absolutely zero to do with me. So now, I shut up, unless I have something positive to say and always let her and her teammates know how much I love watching them, no matter the result. And because of this, I now have a much closer relationship with her and she is still playing and loving it, well after the time most girls stop playing for good! Help your kids enjoy playing by just watching and encouraging. Keep it fun so they play for life.

07.01.2022 This morning's lesson....

07.01.2022 Another inspirational leadership example... I love that Sharing Minds is an Insentra partner. I love the #TrainStory and have been using it a great deal for inspiration over the past few weeks.

06.01.2022 Anyone know any young players that want to join our Club?

06.01.2022 Never ever give up! If every young person I coach learns this, I'm happy!

06.01.2022 #SoProud of my fellow tallie and friend, Coach Johnny, who has really helped both MVP Basketball and Dulwich Newtown Basketball Club grow and improve over the last 2 seasons. He's also a handy guy to have around for many reasons! Congrats Mate! It's been a good six months!

05.01.2022 Not everything is about basketball....

05.01.2022 So proud of all the gains I have seen in this young woman over the past 12 months as she grows in confidence and basketball IQ!! She's such a valuable part of our leadership team at Dulwich Newtown Basketball Club. Go strong and be you, Miss Lara. Our Warrior Women will miss you!

04.01.2022 Last night, I reminded myself why I volunteer and invest so much time into young people. Giving back some confidence and excitement back to a young woman who loves the game, but had lost her joy in it for various reasons, and then fixing that, helping her believe in herself and gain confidence and self trust in one 45 min training session was a brilliant. I woke up feeling energized, my power back and READY to rumble through my challenging day! I'm baaaaack! I gained just as much from the session yesterday. Giving back is what makes me tick.

04.01.2022 Hit up Brit for some wonderful Italian food! Her insta-feed is true food porn! Keep up the great work!

04.01.2022 Never, ever give up on your dreams, even when the issues seem insurmountable.

03.01.2022 Business meets basketball... here's my other 'hat', if anyone needs a hand with Office 365, SharePoint, or automating their business processes.

03.01.2022 This morning's motivation....

02.01.2022 The Wolves don't just do sports!! Join us for great creative options this school holidays too!

01.01.2022 I love this conflict resolution technique. I use it in many situations now.

01.01.2022 I was really impressed by Xavier Cooks, Deshon Taylor and Shaun Bruce while the Sydney Kings were playing the South East Melbourne Phoenix. The Phoenix played with heart, but didn't have the legs to finish the job against our boys toinght. Creek and Adnam were amazing but Weaver's boys got them again! Well done to all. Great game to be at - and the atmosphere was amazing

01.01.2022 Live the way you want to lead.
