25.01.2022 Newtown Fire Station recently hosted a group of boys and their dads (including the son of one of our firefighters) from Barat-Burn Kincoppal Junior School for a fire education talk and station visit. We showed the boys what a smoke alarm looks like and how it sounds when its activated; we demonstrated how to Get Down Low and Go Go Go in a smoke filled environment and also how to Stop, Drop, Cover and Roll if you or your clothes are alight; we reinforced dialling 000 to repo...rt a fire or if you need help from the Police or Ambulance; and we discussed the differences between good fires and bad fires. 24.01.2022 Nothing like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Or in this case stuck between two buildings. This cat (we named it wedgie) was stuck so tight that we had to break through a wall to rescue it. It was raced to the vet where were told it may not make it through the night. I am glad to say Wedgie made it through the night and is back home with its owner.

The sign was intended to be a form of linguistic reappropriation (in the form of a pun) with the aim of spreading a positive fire brigade centric message. Our intention is to always raise awareness of fire safey, our capabilities and to bring a smile to people's faces. We have been made aware that not everyone was happy with the sign. We have taken this feedback seriously and refined our creatives processes to make sure there is no chance of causing offence in the future. Thank you for your comments and feedback.
