25.01.2022 You: Ugh, it has been two wet days in a row. Me : Newtown Jugglers. You: I really want to get out of the house, and do something, but it is so wet.... Me : Newtown Jugglers. You: What can I do which is still dry and comfortable? Me : Newtown Jugglers. You: Ideally something that starts tonight about 7:30pm. Me : NEWTOWN JUGGLERS!

24.01.2022 Keep an eye out for some exciting news. Not this Wednesday, though!

23.01.2022 NSW Health is reporting five days straight without a locally acquired case of COVID-19. Yaaaay! They are also reminding people to wear face masks (and be active). So, to celebrate, we recommend you wear your most festive face-masks tonight at Newtown Jugglers.... 7:30-9:30pm

23.01.2022 Tonight, 7:30-9:30pm. Face masks - especially pink ones - highly recommended.

20.01.2022 Tonight, from 7:30pm Face Masks remain highly recommended. See you there.

19.01.2022 Juggling Club Organiser Checklist: Signs explaining the rules. Large bottle of hand sanitiser Contactless Card Reader charged and tested.... COVID-safety plan Hall cleaning schedule. Stationery for recording contact tracing. Balls and clubs Signage for street. Stereo with iPod for very low-level music. Tongs for biscuits. No respiratory symptoms. Face Mask Water bottle. Jump-start battery charged in case neglected car won't start Oh! The key to the hall! Whew! This didn't used to be this hard. Newtown Jugglers are all systems go for tonight, from 7:30pm. Let's get to picking up from where we left off!

15.01.2022 The President Supreme (Jade) of the Wednesday Virtual Juggling Club (a Zoom session that is currently being held each week, while Australian juggling clubs are on hiatus) has decreed a NEW challenge: EITHER: * Pick any existing record on recordsetter.com, and beat it (live on Wednesday's Zoom session, or with video evidence)... OR * Come up with a brand new record, submit it, and have it accepted as a record on Record Setter. The best record, as decided by her Royal Supremeness, becomes the new President Supreme of the Wednesday Virtual Juggling Club.

14.01.2022 Okay, tonight's the night we return for 2021. 7:30pm Note: The government has recently changed the rules about checking in for contact tracing. Our no-fuss, low-tech, Big-Brother-resistant system is out. The centralised, government-run, faff-around-with-electronics-when-you-could-be-juggling QR-code system is in. If you could be sure to install the Service NSW app on your phone beforehand, it will save some pain when you arrive.

13.01.2022 Okay, time to explain to people why today is the perfect day to come juggling. Let's see... what's a good argument. I know, I will find out what is special about November 25th, make some joke about linking it to juggling, and I am done.... What have you got, Google? So, it is the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women". Oh. That's serious. No joke today. In NSW, the Domestic Violence Helpline for women (including trans women) is 1800 65 64 63, 24 hours a day.

07.01.2022 A juggle a day keeps the doctor away. Tonight, 7:30-9:30. Right in the heart of Newtown.

06.01.2022 Newtown Jugglers is on tonight! Last week was great. This week will be better: * Now there are THREE contactless ways to pay! (We're trying to reduce that bottleneck.)... * The contact-tracing check-ins will be faster for returning jugglers. * Also, more private! Details will no longer be sent to the church. They will only be used for NSW Health's contact tracing. * Clean up should be faster. * We have a plan for allowing pass juggling. Please check with Julian before sharing props. * Tonight might be Jasper's biennial visit, to try out some Chuka chuks. * Mint Slices.

06.01.2022 Can you work out these anagrams? Answers tonight at 7:30pm at St Stephen's Church Hall. * ABLL * BCLU * EEGGJLNNORSTUWW

06.01.2022 GOOD NEWS! Newtown Jugglers is REOPENING on WEDNESDAY 7:30-9:30pm! Whoooooooooooooo! Finally, something upbeat for 2020... FIRST TIMERS! OLD TIMERS! PLEASE COME ALONG! St Stephens Church Hall, 189 Church Street (between the two churches), Newtown ---- Now, let's get serious for a bit. Part of the charm of juggling is how *inessential* it is. Another part of the charm is its safety; in 26 years of Newtown Jugglers, we have never needed to call an ambulance. The idea of this run ending with headlines about "Cluster spreads at local juggling club" fills me with horror. So, there will be a bunch of boring new restrictions on what we can do and how we do it. Meeting together in a hall will be especially tough for two groups of people: those of us who are very concerned about the risks of COVID-19 and those of us who are unconcerned about those risks. Even if you don't feel the rules we enforce are necessary, I ask that you patronise me by following them anyway, so we can retain the attendance of those of us jugglers who are at higher risk. ------- NEW RULES ------- - Social distancing: Keep 1.5m from other people. - Face masks: *Strongly* recommended. If you can't wear them (e.g. for face balancing), go outside or keep 3m away from everyone else. - Hand-sanitiser: We'll have some. Use it when you arrive. - If you have exhibited any respiratory symptoms in the previous 48 hours, stay home. - Contact tracing details: You must check-in on arrival, with your name, phone number and email address. This will be given to the hall managers. (I am still trying to negotiate that we take care of it ourselves, to better maintain privacy.) - Don't touch other people's props with your hands (or face). - Unfortunately, you will need to bring your own props; we can no longer lend you props. There will be juggling balls on sale for beginners. - Clean Up: There will be a 5-10 minute clean up at the end, where all the surfaces need to be wiped. - Bathroom/Kitchen: One person (or household) at a time. Use of the bathroom and kitchen are discouraged - if they get used, we need to clean them before we leave, but humans are human, so we'll understand. - Pass juggling: We are still working on finding the right balance here. Please check before passing props. - Card payments only: No more cash payments, sorry. - New price: $11. Sorry, but we now have higher costs and probably fewer people while we build up attendance again. The best way to bring down the price is to bring more people with you! Please give some thought about being COVID-safe while travelling to and from the venue. If there is something you would like to see to make you more comfortable about attending, please let me know. I don't know how long these rules will apply. I don't know if we will be forced to close again. Each Wednesday there should be a post on the Facebook page confirming that the club is meeting if you want to be sure.

02.01.2022 You possibly already know that Newtown Jugglers is returning tomorrow, Wednesday, 7:30pm, at St Stephen's Church Hall in Newtown, but the way Facebook works, you may not have been told.

01.01.2022 Phew! I just finished setting up our new "contact-less payments system"and it turns out it wasn't even referring to contact juggling, after all! Contact jugglers, toss jugglers, bounce jugglers, foot jugglers, hoop jugglers - you are all welcome for our big return tomorrow. Bring your props, mask and a payment card.... Yes, it costs a dollar more now, and with a bit of luck that should pay off all our new expenses in a bit under four months!
