25.01.2022 Playing in the sandpit is a great way for children to learn to be social and make friends. It will expose them to situations where they need to be problem-solvers, such as sharing toys with other children. It is also just a fun way for kids to make friends. They can talk to each other while making and playing with their creations or even come together to play. This week we saw a great collaboration between the children as they worked together to make cakes that were lined up all around the edge of the sandpit. This was great to see as it encouraged the children to talk about how to get their cakes to stick together, and also how not to knock down someone elses creations.

24.01.2022 To Our Graduating Families, Just a reminder that lunchbox weeks starts next week, Monday 23rd November to Friday 4th December 2020. For the entire week Next Generation CC will be conducting ‘Bring your lunchbox to school week’.... Each child will be encouraged to bring an empty lunch box and drink bottle to school in which we will fill each day with yummy nutritious foods. The children will be encouraged to open the foods independently and be taught easy ways to assist them with opening packet food to allow for a smooth transition to big school lunch times. If you have any questions please let us know

24.01.2022 Early numeracy Due to the many shapes, sizes and colours on offer, blocks offer ample opportunity for children to practise important maths skills, covering measurement, number, symmetry, balance and estimation. By comparing shapes and sizes, creating patterns or providing measuring and weighing tools, we can can extend play and exploration.

23.01.2022 Authentic art learning experiences: charcoal Recently at Next Generation we introduced charcoal into our art experiences. This was a great opportunity encourage the children to explore how charcoal works; how it moves and how much pressure it takes to make a mark. These early experiences with authentic art materials allow children to become highly familiar with a range of art mediums. ... See more

23.01.2022 Open-ended toys offer open ended possibilities and provide wonderful opportunities for learning! A child can use his or her imagination, experiment, and every time they use it, they can create something different or the object can be used in a variety of ways. Recently we used corks in our dolls house to see what the children would do with these objects. The corks became pretend family members who sat at the table, were tucked up into bed and even sat in the pram.

23.01.2022 This amazing spiral is a spider web that one of the children has drawn. The spider web is at the park. What an amazing drawing!!

22.01.2022 Block play offers an open-ended, creative and valuable play and learning experience available to every setting. It offers children freedom to explore, take apart and put back together any block-based creation they can think of. We can see this in two different creations that were made by two different children. One of the children made a house and the other child made a dinosaur.

22.01.2022 Mixed-age grouping has great potential to support childrens social and emotional learning. Children who are settled and older often take on leadership roles and support the younger children, while at the same time building their own self-confidence and self-esteem. They model turn taking and sharing. This week, saw our preschoolers caring for one of our new babies outside during outdoor play.

22.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks the Preschoolers have been busy working together to make a fairy garden. They have each painted their own special rock and placed it in the garden.

21.01.2022 COVID-19 has significantly disrupted 2020 and orientation sessions at schools may look a little different. So how can parents support children starting their primary school journey? This guide for families transitioning to school in 2021 provides ideas and resources. Reference- First Five Years https://www.firstfiveyears.org.au//2021-transitioning-chil

20.01.2022 During writing experiences, the role of the educator is to share in the enjoyment and fulfilment of creating texts, as well as scaffold childrens engagement to develop their emergent literacy skills. The children have enjoyed engaging in writing activities that explore upper and lower case numbers and letters.

20.01.2022 Drawing is a natural process for all children. From infancy, children begin by experimenting with drawing tools and making marks on paper, and as they grow, these marks start taking on meaning. The first shapes a child makes consistently will usually form people. A portrait of a person emerges, with many details such as hair, hands and fingers, feet and a body. Drawing ultimately becomes a childs way of expressing her understanding of the world and all the things that ar...e important to her. A beautiful illustration of Eloises artwork

20.01.2022 The magnetic blocks again prove to be a great way for our budding architects and problem solvers to build and create!! This fabulous construction showed wonderful skills in problem solving and shape sorting. There were some angles on the building, in particular in the design of the roof, that required a lot of thought as to how to make it all come together. And the result is SPECTACULAR!!

20.01.2022 Our outdoor garden invites wonderful opportunities for the children to explore a range of different natural features. Today the children were caring for our plants. We talked about what plants need to grow and what would happen if they had too much water or too much sun. Sensory play allows children to learn with all of their senses. These senses include seeing, hearing, touching and smelling.

20.01.2022 Dramatic play allows children of all ages to act out scenarios they have seen or heard in real life, giving them an important emotional outlet. ... Children use dramatic play to explore their own thoughts and feelings. Babies in the home corner provide a wonderful opportunity to explore caring and nurturing behaviour, and is such a joy to watch.

18.01.2022 Playdough Power Squishing, rolling, sculpting, moulding . . . young children love to play with playdough. Playdough play is a powerful way to support childrens learning. The children use their imaginations and strengthen the small muscles in their fingersthe same muscles they will one day use to hold a pencil and write. Using playdough supports the childrens social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and enjoying being with other people.

15.01.2022 The benefits of doll play Along with being fun, using imagination in their play improves childrens creativity and promotes better performance in school and it also helps them develop a strong problem-solving approach in dealing with issues. This is because it allows them to take up characters that act out real life roles. Engaging in doll play encourages childrens empathy development as they learn to relate to their own emotions and see how their actions impact upon others.

14.01.2022 Fine motor development activities can be completed in many different ways. This week, we did a beading activity which encourages the children to use their fine motor skills to place the bead on the wire. This requires a really steady hand and great eye/hand coordination. This is a great activity to practice using those small muscles needed for writing.

14.01.2022 Natures treasures What a wonderful day to be out in the garden and find a special treasure. This morning in our outdoor play, the children found a baby snail. This opened up wonderful conversations about how the snail moved, and what it felt like when we held it. We also talked about being kind to small creatures and looking after them. Children are innate scientists and love to experience the sights, scents, sounds, and textures of the outdoors. Nature provides countl...ess opportunities for discovery, creativity, problem-solving. Interacting with natural environments allows children to learn by doing and experiment with ideas. In nature, children think, question, and make hypotheses thereby developing inquisitive minds.

13.01.2022 The big draw We are continuing our explorations of using charcoal as an art medium and this time we took our drawing to the floor. This was loads of fun as the children experimented with different ways to use the charcoal.

13.01.2022 School Readiness Program Term 3 Our school readiness program is back, and we have been exploring number recognition, counting and scissor skills, as the children identify numbers and cut them out to make a number collage.

12.01.2022 Dinosaurs are often fascinating to children. There is a certain amount of mystery that surrounds them. A Dinosaur classroom theme provides countless opportunities for learning and discovery. One of the childrens favourite activities is to sort them all out and group them all together.

12.01.2022 Scooping and pouring. Toddlers pour, and dump toys as soon as they discover that they can. Its a developmentally appropriate skill that happens as mobility develops. Pouring and filling is such a great function that is the occupation of play. Pouring and dumping is discovery and exploration of gravity, weight, muscle control, cause and effect, and self-awareness. Not only are toddlers discover what they can do by pouring , they are learning about their environment while working on so many skills.

08.01.2022 In the Preschool room we have started to use a hand washing transition song to ensure the children are washing their hands correctly to take away all the germs. Before meal times we sit on our mat and place our hands out for soap. We listen to the song called Washing Hands Baby Shark. Using this song is ensuring the children are rubbing all the soap all over their hands, fingers and wrists. After we finish the song, the children line up at the bathroom door to wash them off with water and dry with paper towel. Here are some photos of the children in action this morning

08.01.2022 Dear Next Generation CC Families, We are very excited to continue to connect with our families and have been looking at ways to engage our families in our normal activities despite the restrictions we all find ourselves facing. Next month we will be hosting a Parent/ educator meeting online, allowing our families to chat with us from the comfort and safety of their own homes. We plan to hold Parent Meetings bi-monthly moving forward. Our Parent/ educator meetings are a great ...way for us to share ideas, discuss upcoming events and to answer any questions our families may have. This month our meeting will be particularly beneficial as it will allow us to answer any questions our families may have. To join us, families will simply need a computer or smartphone, internet connection and access to Zoom (this can be downloaded from the app. Store). Our meeting will be held on Tuesday 1st December 2020 at 5.30pm. Please refer to Storypark or your emails for the link to the Zoom Meeting. Thanks, any questions let us know :)

08.01.2022 Maggie Dents new book will be available from 25th August, and available to pre order now at https://www.panmacmillan.com.au/978176078/from-boys-to-men/ The world has changed so much since most parents themselves were adolescents. Those of you raising your boys today didnt have the digital world to help raise you and give you a sense of how everything works. You probably werent into gaming as much as your sons might be and you certainly didnt have such easy access to huge amounts of pornography and the distraction of technology in general. In this book for parents of tween and teen boys, Maggie covers all the biggies including the things mentioned above and ongoing challenges such as communication, motivation (or lack thereof!) and much, much more.

06.01.2022 BANG THE DRUM!! When creating music children become much more engaged than when they just listen. Singing and using instruments boosts their creativity and can easily be done in groups to improve their social skills and help them bond with others. Playing music, singing and dancing is extremely important for childrens self-expression. Children cant always communicate their feelings through words, so its useful for them to have a healthy outlet for their emotions.

04.01.2022 Last week it was National Tree Day which inspired us to encourage the children to care for our trees. They even gave the trees a hug and a pat - which they thought was hilarious. We thanked the trees for their shade and their leaves.

03.01.2022 Maths in the sandpit Capacity is one of the major early maths concepts that is learned in the sandpit. The act of pouring sand (or water) in and out of containers gives children a thorough understanding of volume and capacity. Simply by adding some containers, buckets or measuring cups, your child will experiment and learn. ... Plus its so much better to have a friend to explore with as well
