17.01.2022 Anyone else got a complicated relationship with small talk? Or forgotten how to engage in it? After attending a big event last week, I realised that my skills in this department are somewhat rusty. And that I really value big talk. Great read below on how to make your small talk big. 16.01.2022 Oh, riding a wave of early 2020 nostalgia after finding this pic on my camera roll just now. The last big thing I went to before Covid really hit was a dear friends fancy dress birthday party. I was one of about five Madonna’s (clearly not so original) in a sea of Courtney Love's and Dolly Parton's. John Lennon made an appearance. So did Devo and Kiss. In choreographed costume changes, the birthday girl managed the amazing feat of channeling Stevie Nicks AND Yoko Ono. It was... a great night, the memory of which is even more special because of what followed. I swear I will never take those fancy dress parties for granted again :) What was the last fun thing you did before Covid hit this year? Who were you with? What made it special? XO PS - Freddie, I hope you don't mind me posting this. PPS - Ciggie is fake.

14.01.2022 'You can't yoga your way out of burnout' (Paula Davis Lack) That's a quote I can relate to. Burnout is a multi headed beast. By the time you realise you have it, you're already in the wars. It creeps up on you and then smacks you down hard. You don't recover from burnout overnight. What's the difference between stress and burnout? Stress is inevitable and part of daily life. But burnout needn't be. Check out Paula's awesome website for lots of tips and info on stress and resi...lience. XO https://stressandresilience.com/9-traits-that-promote-stre/

14.01.2022 THINGS I LEARNED FROM MY AWESOME CLIENTS: 2020 EDITION It’s been a year like no other. Ditched plans, goals on pause, lockdowns, border closures, navigating ever-changing restrictions, remote EVERYTHING, physical isolation, modifying the way we work and live the list goes on and on and bloody on.... But 2020 also gifted me the opportunity to work with some amazing people in the music community artists and the people who work with artists - managers, publicists, publishers, marketers, producers, event managers. By coincidence (and good fortune), this year for me was a very Melbourne year - honestly I won’t forget what these humans have taught me about resilience, strength and courage. Sending love and gratitude to those I worked with this year. Thanks for placing your trust in me. I take my hat off to all of you getting through the 2020 clusterfuck in your unique own way. Here are my takeaways: 1. Not having the answer and not knowing is ok. Uncertainty is uncomfortable, but normal. Acceptance of this has been the giant lesson of 2020 for so many this year. 2. People are way stronger than they realise. I’ve seen some phenomenal displays of resilience. 3. We can be wildly adaptable many rolled with these strange new circumstances, adjusting to a new routine, a new way of life, without falling apart. 4. Regardless of our individual hopes and fears, 2020 has forced us to flex our problem-solving muscles. 5. While we’re craving some semblance of ‘normality’, most of us don’t want to slide back into business-as-usual 6. Some people found meaning in isolation, for others, it was really fucking hard. 7. The stigma of mental health lessened a bit this year, people reaching out for professional health. The people around me were more open about their inner struggles. 8. Skills are transferable. But you need to be clear on what they are and how to pitch them in a different area. 9. Little wins are important and worth celebrating. 10. You do you and I’ll do me has worked very well for people who have finally ditched the comparison trap. 11. Some of the most accomplished people in our industry still feel like imposters the great imposter paradox. 12. Some things we do out of habit, no longer serve us. It’s possible to manage perfectionism and other unhelpful, limiting behaviours so they take up less head space. 13. If you always show up from a place of personal values and strengths, you will feel authentic. The music industry really is a community. Thanks VMDO, Music Victoria and QMusic for your support this year. XXX Coach Viv XO

01.01.2022 A long but interesting read on the history of burnout. It may be our contemporary condition, but it has very particular historical origins. XO https://www.newyorker.com//burnout-modern-affliction-or-hu
