25.01.2022 Happy Sunday everyone, this is the last weekly summary for 2020! What a year it has been for Next-Gen... there have been weddings, babies, new team members, renovations, and working through one of the toughest times the clinic may see. We are very lucky to have such a great team, be part of a wonderful community, and be blessed with so many lovely patients - all of these things combined make it a pleasure to come in to work every day. Given the current situation regarding C...ovid-19, if you live or have visited any hot spot areas over the past 7 days please contact the clinic immediately. You can find a detailed list of these locations on the NSW Health website. As always if you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms please let us know so that we can reschedule your appointment. This is for the safety of our patients, staff and the community. We can beat this together if we act safely. This is our last week in the clinic before we close for Christmas, we are closed from 23/12/20 and back on 4/1/21. Tom will be in for a few days between Christmas and the New Year, we have a few appointments left so get in quick to book! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year and I will be back again in 2021!

20.01.2022 Who doesn’t love a long weekend We are back to our normal trading hours from Tuesday 15th June

17.01.2022 NEXT-GEN PHYSIO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where are you located? This is by far our most asked question, you can find us in beautiful Kotara on Park Avenue.... We are located across the road from the @westfieldkotara shopping centre and share the carpark with McDonald’s on Park Avenue. If you drive into the car park we are on the first level of the big grey double storey building as you drive in on the left hand side! Save this post for later if you can’t find us!

17.01.2022 Adam had a gap before his lunch break so he went out to the Fernleigh Track, theres an entry point not to far from the clinic. A good 15km stretch, not much in the way of slopes so good for people looking to increase their long distance performance without burning out trying to get up hills. Gorgeous scenery along the way, lots of green. It used to be a rail corridor, hence the lack of sloping in the track. You can still see the soot marks lining the inside of the tunnel w...here it once chuffed through. If youre looking for a track to train on, or just to take the family out for a scenic walk/ride check it out. But don't make Adam’s mistake, check the forecast before you go

17.01.2022 Merewether Stairs? Glenrock? Let us know your faves below!

13.01.2022 SLIDING INTO THE WEEKEND LIKE... Owen has suffered from reoccurring hamstring strains. He's been doing the common bridges, hamstring curls etc but because he's so busy with work, kids, sport he wanted the exercises that give him the best bang for his buck to strengthen his hammies when he's low on time. Most of you guys would have seen the "Nordic Curl" exercise, so here you see in the video the "slide out". You start by sliding out with your feet on a surface that will slide... comfortably, in a bridge and then sliding your feet away from you as far as you can go. Once this becomes easy you go out a distance and try and pull back to the beginning bridge position. Give this one a try!

13.01.2022 WEEKLY SUMMARY WITH SOPH Happy Sunday everyone, hope you had a nice weekend. To finish off gadgets week I thought I would take a second to remind everyone that all of the gadgets we shared (except for Tom’s scraping tools) can be booked and used in the clinic at any time! You can book a session in by giving us a call or booking online. If you aren’t sure which is the right gadget for you, feel free to contact us.... We get questions everyday from our patients about the clinic so we thought we would answer them for you in Next-Gen’s Frequently Asked Questions. If there is anything you want to know, please comment below and we can cover it! See you in the clinic tomorrow from 7am

12.01.2022 Brent - recent climbing addict Pulse Climbing and Pulse Climbing Adamstown Following a really strong background in strength training, Brent has made the switch to focus much more on his climbing, recently going 3x per week, plus supplementing those sessions with gym based training also. With a bit of diagnostic dry needling we were able to identify the problem muscle, and reassure him when it felt better immediately. Following up on this short term ‘manual therapy’... we worked on this interesting hip control exercise (see video). Controlled mobility and strength is key in climbing allowing you to keep your pelvis close to the wall See more

12.01.2022 Nerida Bint from Lissome Newcastle Lissome Maitland popped into the clinic yesterday to chat with Tom Russell about how we can keep her girls pain and injury free We have really enjoyed our relationship with Lissome over the last 3-4 years. It’s so important that physiotherapists liase with their patients trainer/coach to ensure they are on the right pathway to recovery. We have a direct line of communication with the coaches at Lissome and our physio team to collaborate and discuss injury history. This means the girls know that after their physio appointment, the information will be communicated and not lost in translation

Much like a few of the @nrlknights players tonight, Dave has been growing a pretty impressive mullet over the last few months. 04.01.2022 Postpartum massage treatments are just as important as treatments during your pregnancy.... If there are no complications during birth you can recommence your massage treatments as soon as you feel comfortable to do so. The lying position and treatment performed is tailored around how you are feeling and recovering after birth.... Postnatal massage has many benefits but can be extremely beneficial in assisting with releasing shoulder, thoracic and neck tension from feeding and holding/carrying your baby, stress relief, relaxing from sleepless nights and assisting in reducing swelling and fluid retention. You may have been getting treatment during your pregnancy for a pre-existing problem or experience different aches or pains you didnt experience during pregnancy which can be focused on during these treatments. If you had any complications during birth or a cesarean, please ensure you have had your 4 - 6 week postpartum check up and been cleared for massage treatment prior to coming in.

04.01.2022 Hey everyone! Like a paranoid conspiracy theorist, we are watching our backs this week. One lower back issue that a lot of people don't know about is tightness through the Psoas muscles. The Psoas is actually a hip flexor muscle, but the other end attaches to the vertebrae of the lumbar spine. When it gets tight, you can feel it pulling your lower back forward, especially when going from a seated or bent over position to standing up straight. The best way I have found to release through this muscle is with an active release technique, applying pressure to the muscle through the abdomen, and engaging it by lifting and lowering the leg. Thanks to our demonstration volunteer, Client X, whose secret identity we have sworn to never reveal.

04.01.2022 WEEKLY SUMMARY WITH SOPH Happy Sunday everyone, and Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you’ve all had a nice weekend. A double post from me today! We are super excited to share with you that we have a new member of the Next-Gen team joining us in March! Gabby is our new full time receptionist and will be working alongside the rest of the administration team at Next-Gen. We will be giving her the proper introduction she deserves in the next few weeks so stay tuned! We are going back to basics next week on our socials sharing our patients and their stories. In between all of the funny content and sharing about our team, this is what we are most passionate about. Our patients and helping them to be their best and perform at their best! We will see you in the clinic tomorrow from 7am See more

02.01.2022 Back pain?? . Been given core strength exercises? . Still symptomatic when doing various activities?... . Though core activation/strength exercises are a common component of managing back pain, they may not have the carryover into the tasks that matter to you. . Transferring what you learn when doing some of the many core training exercises can be applied to tasks more relevant to you. Learning how to activate your core, and how it feels to be active through your core region can be applied to more functional positions. . Functional positions such as upright running. Incorporating previously learnt core activation and pelvic control into a simple running drill (triple extension triple flexion), can be an effective method of reducing back pain during running. 01.01.2022 Backs, Backs, Backs!! This week it's all about backs. . The first thing we have to understand about backs, and back pain is that everyone is different. What works for your best friend or your work colleague may not be appropriate for you. SO if you're concerned about your back or back pain please speak to your physio for an individual assessment and relevant targeted management. .... Having said that, we have Steve here working with Hannah to improve her ability to brace and control throughout her mid section, rather than dominating with her back muscles. . The first exercise we have is a modified isometric curl up where Hannah is aiming to brace and elevate her chest and shoulders off the ground. While maintaining this position Hannah is trying to breathe smoothly and keep her lower back in a normal curved position. She shouldn't be squashing her hands or feel her back lift right off them. . The second is a modified deadbug exercise. Deadbugs are a very common prescribed exercise for improving lower back and hip control. This variation uses a rolled towel to challenge balance and stability, with the aim being to control hip position while moving her arms and legs through a varied sequence of directions. See more

We had such a great time and loved having some treatment on us. We did film some of the session so keep your eyes peeled for this over the coming weeks!
