25.01.2022 When children are involved in cooking, they are engaging a whole lot of new skills, such as reading and developing their fine motor skills. Cooking goes beyond just making food as well. When children are cooking, it is the beginnings of skills like maths and science, as they measure ingredients and combine items to create something new. This week our Preschoolers enjoyed creating fruit kebabs - it was great to see them enjoying such a fun activity.

24.01.2022 The range of mathematics explored during free play is impressive. We can see that free play offers a rich foundation on which to build interesting mathematics. These everyday experiences form the foundation for later mathematics. The small group of children at this Connect 4 game are exploring counting, sorting and classifying as they put the tokens in the game.

24.01.2022 Dear Next Generation CC Families, We are very excited to continue to connect with our families and have been looking at ways to engage our families in our normal activities despite the restrictions we all find ourselves facing. Next month we will be hosting a Parent/ educator meeting online, allowing our families to chat with us from the comfort and safety of their own homes. We plan to hold Parent Meetings bi-monthly moving forward. Our Parent/ educator meetings are a great ...way for us to share ideas, discuss upcoming events and to answer any questions our families may have. This month our meeting will be particularly beneficial as it will allow us to answer any questions our families may have. To join us, families will simply need a computer or smartphone, internet connection and access to Zoom (this can be downloaded from the app. Store). 24.01.2022 Dear Next Generation Families To make it easier for you to get Child Care appropriate clothing for your child/ren especially when their days here consist of paint, mud, water, food and other fun but messy activities, we would love to offer our families the opportunity to purchase Next Generation uniforms for their children. These are not compulsory but are a great solution to ending wear and tear on good clothing. Both our T- shirts and hats come with our Next Generation lo...go embroidered on them. T-shirts are $15 each and are available in three different colors; Purple, Yellow and Orange in Sizes 2, 4 and 6. Attached is an order form should you wish to purchase a T-shirt. (these can also be found in the foyer). We still have Wet Bags available!!!! You can use the bag if you’re going to the beach or pool to place your children’s wet swimmers inside or place it inside your child’s school bag in case they have an accident or dirty their clothes at the centre. The wet bag measures 30cm x 40cm with an easy to open zipper and press stud handle. It will be green with the Next Generation CC logo on it in silver (please find attached photo) Each bag will cost $10.00 inclusive of GST. 23.01.2022 During writing experiences, the role of the educator is to share in the enjoyment and fulfilment of creating texts, as well as scaffold children’s engagement to develop their emergent literacy skills. The children have enjoyed engaging in writing activities that explore upper and lower case numbers and letters.

15.01.2022 We are now starting to collect bread tags to be sent over to South Africa to help purchase wheelchairs, so please help us by donating any spare bread clips you may have lying around at home. Bread tags come in many shapes, sizes and colours. They are made of high impact polystyrene and they have a good recycling value. It takes 200 bread bags full of tags that are packed into 10 black bags or 200kg of tags to bring enough money to buy one wheelchair. Collecting bread tags, ev...en broken ones makes a difference to our environment. They are recycled into seedling trays, picture frames, coat hangers and other items. You too can make a difference to the lives of people who are in need of a wheelchair. Save your bread tags and get your family and friends to do so too! Each child will be encouraged to bring an empty lunch box to school in which we will fill each day with yummy nutritious foods. ... The children will be encouraged to open the foods independently and be taught easy ways to assist them with opening packet food to allow for a smooth transition to big school lunch times. 08.01.2022 Open-ended toys offer open ended possibilities and provide wonderful opportunities for learning! A child can use his or her imagination, experiment, and every time they use it, they can create something different or the object can be used in a variety of ways. Recently we used corks in our dolls house to see what the children would do with these objects. The corks became pretend family members who sat at the table, were tucked up into bed and even sat in the pram.

06.01.2022 An Educator's role when engaging with children in their play is to structure a rich environment, observe what children are doing and thinking, and interact in a nondirective manner. Teachers should "encourage problem solving, perspective taking, and/or consideration of feelings". This week, Connie created a small world play environment for the children in the sandpit, which encouraged wonderful conversations and social interactions.

04.01.2022 Each month the staff here at Next Generation do training to extend their knowledge and development in all areas of early childhood education and care. In August the staff completed the training the Value of Play which looks at how to support a play based learning program for young children' development.

03.01.2022 What a wonderful day to be out in the garden and find a special treasure. This morning in our outdoor play, the children found a baby snail. This opened up wonderful conversations about how the snail moved, and what it felt like when we held it. We also talked about being kind to small creatures and looking after them. Children are innate scientists and love to experience the sights, scents, sounds, and textures of the outdoors. Nature provides countless opportunities for discovery, creativity, problem-solving. Interacting with natural environments allows children to learn by doing and experiment with ideas. In nature, children think, question, and make hypotheses thereby developing inquisitive minds.

02.01.2022 Playing in the sandpit is a great way for children to learn to be social and make friends. It will expose them to situations where they need to be problem-solvers, such as sharing toys with other children. It is also just a fun way for kids to make friends. They can talk to each other while making and playing with their creations or even come together to play. This week we saw a great collaboration between the children as they worked together to make cakes that were lined up all around the edge of the sandpit. This was great to see as it encouraged the children to talk about how to get their cakes to stick together, and also how not to knock down someone else's creations.
