23.01.2022 Brianna recently started a Workplace Learning Opportunity at Exploring Tree Tree. She was so excited to start, and has since found herself spending time in the preschool room (the Willow Room), helping with dance groups and helping with graduation rehearsals. Breanna also loves reading to the children and helping with general activities around the classroom! Awesome work, Brianna! And thank you, Robyn and team at Exploring Tree for being such remarkable supporters of our Young Adults.

"We are a non-denominational, not-for-profit outdoor recreation center located just across the way from Mater Dei at Cobbitty. 2020 marks 59 years of operation and you could say adaptability is something our organization is very accustomed to! We have grown from a camp site that was built upon a dream and donations to a campsite that can now sleep 200, caters for over 6000 kids per year and provides a vast array of activities to engage any young perso...n attending camp... or even just the young at heart. In recent times we have adapted to drought and bushfires and at present the pressures of COVID-19. The one thing we have never compromised, through all the changes, is what Teen Ranch was built for: to share the gospel with young people." -- Janekan from NextPath enjoys the opportunity to vary his work experience while at Teen Ranch. Paul Wakeling Motor Group "Im proud of my organisation because of the unique family-like environment it displays, which extends into the community with our various sponsorships. Wakeling Automotive support numerous schools across the region like Mater Dei School, Camden, St Thomas More and St Justins. As well as being proud sponsors of the Mighty Wests Tigers, for over 30 years. Wakeling Automotive have also created the Wheels ...for Life initiative, which sees $25 from every car sold donated to our local Macarthur and Camden District hospitals! To date, we have raised over $1.43 million dollars to purchase much needed medical equipment. Its exciting changing peoples opinion and getting them to fall in love with these beautiful animals just as much as I do." -- Last year Macarthur Pets took on Daniela, one of our senior students at Mater Dei. She supported staff with cleaning and maintaining the animals and pens - an integral member of the team!

11.01.2022 Thank you Family Focus Legal for this incredible opportunity for growth for Tom over 18 months. This farewell was a very emotional one. We were lucky enough to have an in depth chat to Rebekah Gates (Principal Solicitor at Family Focus) about the experience of having Tom on board a few weeks ago. To hear about the way he has become an adored team member, the way he has unwittingly touched everybody's lives and how the team looks forward to his placement each week as a time to slow down and be present was truly moving. This is an end to an era for Tom! But there are only great things ahead! Thank you to all the team at Family Focus for being part of Tom's (and NextPath's) journey.

They conquered the Larapinta trail and raised $100,000 for NextPath Continuous Learning in the process Trek for Opportunity 2.0 is on the horizon in 2021 - details and location to come!

"Ive been inspired by our Director, Jessica, and the educators, who have been so selfless and remained so positive, always putting familys needs first amidst this crisis.The lengths they all went to create at home experiences online, post packages of activities and ideas for children self-isolating, and creating a warm and welcoming environment for children returning, was extraordinary. Ive loved seeing the smiles on the face...s of the returning children getting back to Exploring Tree with their friends and everyone regaining a sense of normality. I have also been inspired by the love shown by our childrens parents. Our families have been so kind and have showered us with encouraging emails and messages, baked treats, and offers of support." -- Tiana, one of our NextPath Young Adults, is now an employee of Exploring Tree after getting the opportunity to complete work placement with their team. 09.01.2022 Exciting Changes to In-Class Therapy! 2021 will see our In-class therapy model increase to include all Mater Dei students in Kindergarten through to year 6! Best practice involves Therapists working within the classroom, embedding and supporting opportunities to develop therapy goals during general lessons. This was shown to increase the link between therapy goals and accessing learning and the curriculum and also increase the collaboration between the Teacher and the Thera...pist. Students who opt in to the in-class therapy model will have access to Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy from NextPath therapists from term 1! 05.01.2022 Shining A Light on Dawbuts Read on to learn the role our NextPath Young Adults play in the interesting work Dawbuts does! "We test animal dung! Sheep, cattle, goats, alpacas and horses can have worms living in their digestive systems. ... But how do farmers know how many worms there are and if its a problem? Thats where we come in! We take dung that is collected and sent to our lab from a farmer, make a solution with it, and put it into a special apparatus that will then be read under a microscope. We look for worm eggs to provide an estimate on how many adult worms would be present in a mob. The more eggs, the more worms there are. From here, we then provide advice to farmers on what to do next. This could be recommending regular testing for monitoring purposes, or drenching, which is orally administering special chemicals to livestock that kill the adult worms. Having a high worm burden is an animal welfare concern, as it reduces an animals productivity and can make them very unwell, sometimes even leading to death. Doing regular worm egg testing in the lab is important to make sure that worm burdens are not reaching a point where they are life-threatening to livestock." Did you know... Without the collaboration of fantastic local businesses like Family Focus Legal, we wouldn't be able to empower Young Adults like Tom to upskill themselves and grow in their independence. Chatting to Rebekah Gates, Principal Solicitor at Family Focus and Chair of the Mater Dei Lipstick Luncheon Committee, reaffirmed for us that while Workplace Learning Opportunities help our Young Adults, our Young Adults equally bring such joy, perspective and richness to the workplaces that they participate in.

The staffs loyalty to the club, their desire to get back to work and the fantastic attitude with which they undertook the massive task of reopening is truly inspiring. They painted and gardened, cleaned, cooked, moved and tidied. 02.01.2022 This week is Occupational Therapy Week! The NextPath Assessment & Therapy team is lucky to have 6 professional, skilled and passionate OTs on board with access to great therapy facilities. The theme for OT Week 2020 is 'Resilience: Supporting our communities to rebuild, recover, and reengage'. All our therapists and clients showed incredible resilience earlier this year as we made the rapid and necessary transition to Telehealth during the period when schools and other servi...ces closed. OT via Telehealth did have some upsides. For instance, it provided the opportunity for our clients to work on self-care skills in their natural environment, such as preparing an afternoon snack using familiar equipment and ingredients. Our OTs, like our other therapists, are continuously adapting and collaborating to deliver quality therapy to the children and young adults we serve. Well done and thank you to all our Occupational Therapists. We appreciate you! #ThisIsOT #OTWeek2020

What a great opportunity to celebrate our stellar team of Speech Pathologists and the great work they do at NextPath Assessment & Therapy Working with babies, all the way through to young adults, our Speech Pathologists provide support with all aspects of communication, including receptive and expressive language, speech, social communication, literacy and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). AAC has been a focus area for the Spee...ch team this term, with professional development and supervision focusing on AAC set up and implementation. In recent weeks, we participated in a workshop that focussed on high-tech symbolic communication systems. We are currently supporting several children and young adults who are developing their communication skills using different devices and systems, including Proloquo2go, LAMP, Go Talk, Snap Core First and Talk Tablet. Cassie, one of NextPaths experienced Speech Pathologists says she loves using Proloquo2go with her clients who dont yet have the verbal language skills to express themselves. Its amazing to see children and young people begin to communicate their wants and needs with a device and watching their confidence grow as they experience success when they communicate with others."
