Since 2011 we have had over 600 volunteers who have worked tirelessly to help people find a fresh start! Our amazing volunteers contribute more than 5,000 hours towards the work of Nexus Care and over the years have helped with everything from collecting, sorting, and packing food for distribution through to helping with the school breakfast programs, facilitating cooking classes, workplace e...nglish classes, being a friend to someone in tough situations through the COACH program, sitting on committees, helping with the Fresh Startathon, providing administrative support, doing food runs, hosting guests at our mornings teas, helping with our school holiday programs, delivering Christmas presents and SO MUCH MORE! Funding from the Lord Mayor's Charitable Trust allowed for Chefs at QPAC to cook meals that were then delivered by OzHarvest Brisbane, to be distributed by us. How awesome is THAT! 16.01.2022 Our 2nd annual corporate Golf Day was held on Friday, 13 November 2020. A partly cloudy day with a light breeze, 68 keen golfers and one large trophy up for grabs! It was great event!

14.01.2022 Way back in 2011 we set up the COACH program, a long term mentoring program aimed at supporting people experiencing disadvantage which has helped over 60 families. The MONASH accredited COACH program, helps to get alongside families and young people, providing life mentoring and support in such areas as family cohesion, social connectedness, employment, mental health and financial management. After the success of COACH, we introduced a pilot of Youth COACH in 2016 which enabl...ed us to help over 20 young people find hope and build resilience by connecting them with someone who will listen, encourage and equip them with life skills to help them break the cycle. We also celebrated a special milestone in 2016 which was supporting 1,500 households through the Fresh Start Food Program. 08.01.2022 2020 was a year like no other and saw #NexusCare once again rise to the occaision to provide extra care for those experiencing the impacts of Covid-19. We got to work phoning those we knew were in the vulnerable categories offering extra support including deliveries for a time, we adapted our Emergency financial relief assistance to take phone bookings, and as we noticed a change in the cohort of people connecting with us we tailored our support further. 2020 saw the introduc...tion of our Career Coaching Clinic pilot which aims to support people at-risk of poverty in their efforts to obtain meaningful employment. We feel privileged to provide support for over 1,153 Brisbane households throughout Covid-19 of which 601 were first time participants. Our heart has always been to meet the need in our community and 2020 was another opportunity for us to adapt and help people who are struggling in our community. Thank you to everyone who donated, to our volunteers who stayed home (even though we know you were desperate to come in and help), the staff who filled the gaps - what a year! 08.01.2022 2017 was a big year for #NexusCare with lots of growth in our COACH, Community Connect and Fresh Start Food Programs. We were running our school breakfast program in 6 local schools, we trained 27 new COACH mentors, our Fresh Start Food Program saw a 28% increase as well giving out 381 food parcels and Christmas hampers - an 8.85% increase from the same period in 2016. Thanks to the generosity expressed during our EOFY appeal we were able to purchase a new van helping us lift... our capacity to meet the increased demand in the #FreshStartFoodProgram. One of the highlights of 2017 was gathering with 8 boys from around Brisbane for the 'Build' school holiday program. The boys shared in many great activities helping them learn how to build lives of strength and resilience including learning how to build a bike. At a dinner that night with all their families, we were able to gift them the bikes as a reminder of what they have learnt and achieved. It was a pretty special moment! #10yearsofNexusCare #BrisbaneCharity

05.01.2022 Did you know that over 1 in 5 Aussie kids start the day without access to breakfast? #NexusCare has been working since 2011 to help overcome this stunning statistic through our school breakfast programs and over 14,280 breakfast meals were provided in 2019-2020 alone! Our Brekky Club teams are currently committed to five local schools and volunteer up to 25.5 hours each week, serving a nutritious breakfast and fostering a sense of belonging amongst students. Shout out to all those who have volunteered at Brekky Clubs over the years - drop a comment below if that's you! We also wanted to mention that in February of 2019, Nexus Care supported it’s 4,000th family in the #FreshStartFoodProgram and throughout the year we supported on average 323 families each month, an increase of 23% on 2018.
