22.01.2022 A huge thank you to SA Power Networks Employee Foundation who presented $15,360 to help protect Mount Lofty Ranges Southern Emu-wrens at Watchalunga Nature Reserve. The funds will help us deliver revegetation work and monitoring at Watchalunga to continue to provide suitable habitat and support research for this endangered species. Thank you to Executive Officer Vicki Shearer - pictured below with our Philanthropy Coordinator Patrick Mentzel - and everyone who contributes to the Employee Foundation!

07.01.2022 River Murray turtles are becoming increasingly vulnerable. If you see a turtle, even if it is dead, please log the sighting on TurtleSAT: https://turtlesat.org.au/turtlesat/default.aspx

06.01.2022 Summer's devastating bushfires are estimated to have killed millions of native animals. One of the worst hit areas was Kangaroo Island, where about 40,000 koalas died. But the fires have also provided a rare opportunity to help protect the species in the long term. Watch this episode of the 7.30 Report to find out more! You can help these very special koalas right here: https://naturefoundation.org.au/support-us/our-appeals

06.01.2022 The Nature Glenelg Trust Aquasave team have been sampling fish at Watchalunga Nature Reserve for a project funded by Nature Foundation. They are combining environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling (using the DNA in the water to determine which fish are present), with traditional netting to detect threatened small-bodied fishes, including Yarra Pygmy Perch. Yesterday's catch revealed a good diversity and not too many exotic fish species, which is great news!

05.01.2022 Fantastic to have local young people from Leigh Creek out on a Kids on Country camp at Witchelina Nature Reserve this week! https://naturefoundation.org.au/news-events/kids-on-country

04.01.2022 Wait until you see it! This camera trap captured another amazing glimpse into Malleefowl life. You can see the chick’s head emerging from the sand while the adu...lt is scratching, he evens get a few pecks on the head before coming out and wobbling his way into a new life! After their emergence from the mound, the chicks are capable of leaving the nest mound entirely on their own and receive no parental care. They are capable of feeding and flying within 24 hours of their emergence. The knowledge of what to eat, what predators are, what to avoid, how to build mounds is embedded in the chicks DNA.

02.01.2022 Don't forget to take part in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count this week for National Bird Week!

01.01.2022 The Nature Foundation team wishes all South Australians the very best on this first day of lock-down - we'll do this together! Our work for nature is business as usual ... from home :) Stay safe all. Desert grasshopper at Witchelina Nature Reserve by Coral Johnston
