25.01.2022 Today, we invite Western Australians to celebrate with us, as we recognise our 130th Birthday! Ngala is proud to reach this distinctive milestone of 130 years of providing support and guidance to Western Australian families; guidance that has the power to give parents and carers a sigh of relief and a feeling that they’re in safe hands with our team. In 2020, Ngala is an industry leader in early childhood intervention, but this is just the latest incarnation of an organisati...on that has undergone a number of rebirths in more than a century of operation. Today, Ngala runs 38 different programs and services for children from 0 to 18 years, including early learning and development centres, programs for Indigenous families, a parenting line and the Ngala Hospital in Kensington. At Ngala we believe every child deserves the opportunity to be their best, and that parenting should be a joyful and rewarding experience. Join us over the next 12 months, as we reflect on our past and look towards another 130 years of supporting and guiding Western Australian families. See more

22.01.2022 Recently the children in our Babies Room have been exploring our story book, Ducks Away by Mem Fox. Since introducing the book, the Educators have slowly emerged the interest into hands on provocations including a basket of resources linked to the story for the children to engage with and extend their learning throughout the day. Over the fortnight, the Educators emerged this experience by introducing play dough to represent ducks, tissue paper for the pond aspect whilst using the teaching strategy of revising the learning through song. This experience will continue to emerge with the children's interests.

17.01.2022 Today is Early Childhood Educators' Day 2020. Our Educators enjoyed a beautiful morning tea and received a coffee voucher each for our local cafe to say thanks for all their hard work and dedication. Our families showered us with gifts and personalised thank you messages on our thank you tree. ... What a wonderful day it's been. #LoveMyECE #EarlyChildhoodEducatorsDay

14.01.2022 Today our Kindy children went on an excursion to Yellagonga Regional Park as part of their recent exploration of native birds. The children had the opportunity to identify birds, use binoculars and have discussions about our local flora and fauna. As an added bonus, they had the opportunity to see a number of kangaroos with their joeys. As a part of this experience the children practiced the birds names in the Noongar language as well as doing an acknowledgement of country.

13.01.2022 At Ngala Joondalup we value diversity and as part of our National Quality Framework we are embedding the Aboriginal culture into our learning curriculum. Throughout the year the Toddler two room have been researching Aboriginal culture, in particular the Noongar calendar which consists of six seasons. The Djerin season is our winter and as the children connect with nature we are currently exploring Mia Mia shelters which are a traditional Noongar house made to protect Aboriginal people from the harsh elements. The children have been involved in making their own versions of Mia Mia shelters in our outdoor area using a variety of natural resources. As an extension of this we have introduced a large cardboard box to our indoor environment for the children to create a Mia Mia shelter diorama together.

12.01.2022 Our Kindy children have been busy exploring videography as a part of their visual arts curriculum. They have been experimenting with different video editing functions and put together this short clip about recycling

12.01.2022 This week our Toddler 1 room are welcoming some new children to their room who have transitioned from our Babies room. Following on from the focus book in the Babies room on ducks, our Toddler 1 room have set up a farm exploration area to extend on the children's learning from the Babies room. They have emerged this experience by adding other animal related books to their book area as well as adding puppets as props for the children to explore.

10.01.2022 Our Toddler 1 room are collecting bread tags to support the Bread Tags for Wheelchairs Association. The bread tags are made from high impact polystyrene which means they have a good recycling value. For every 500kg of bread tags collected, enough money is raised to purchase 2-3 wheelchairs for people who require them. Not only does this help people in need but it also sustainable in that it saves the bread tags from ending up in landfill. ... Our collection point is located in the hallway outside the Toddler 1 room. Learn more about the Bread tag initiative at: www.breadtagsforwheelchairs.co.za

09.01.2022 Over the past few months our home corner area in the Pre-Kindy room has evolved into the Pre-Kindy cafe due to the children's keen interest in both dramatic and symbolic play. Following the children’s lead, educators have sourced second-hand tea sets to add a more challenging and enriching aspect to their dramatic play and to promote children’s sense of respect and responsibility through caring for precious resources. The children have been engaging in small group discussion...s around how we should care for the tea set, as educators explained that the items are fragile. The children then had an opportunity to explore the different items before they were officially introduced into the physical environment. From these discussions, the children themselves agreed upon a small set of guidelines and agreements centered around how we engage appropriately with these resources. This has in itself created a wonderful opportunity for us to implement some intentional teaching in this area around how to care for delicate resources. The children hold themselves, each other and even the educators accountable when using the tea set.

05.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all our wonderful dads. Here is a little video one of our Kindy children made for her dad this week. Enjoy!
