21.01.2022 The Department of State Development, Tourism and Innovation is pleased to announce that the Archer River barge ramp at Mipwun is now complete. During constructi...on, eight Indigenous workers were employed part time and APN supplied gravel and machinery, ensuring some of the benefits of the $1.6million project stayed in the local area. The ramp is owned by NAK and APN has agreed to maintain the ramp. The ramp will allow easier access to the Southern Homelands and Outstations. It is hoped school and other groups will benefit from the easier access and visit the Homelands for cultural and recreational purposes. The ramp was constructed using pre-cast concrete planks which were laid during the lowest tide of the year. Included in the works are a hardstand, parking area and a new three kilometre stretch of road that connects the ramp to the existing track. The ramp is designed to take barges up to four metres wide.

19.01.2022 A big thanks to: our #Wik and Wik Waya TOs, including the Anathangayth people; CYLC; and Balkanu, for negotiating access, cultural heritage and a Native Title agreement with Telstra. This fibre optic service to #Aurukun will support the development of businesses and enable services, such as our school, to connect to first-class broadband. Thank you especially to Telstra and the Government for making this possible. Check out the photos posted by Aurukun Shire Council from yesterday's celebrations. There are certainly lots of smiles around town this week! #socialenterprise #Telstra #DeadlyBusinesses #WeipaToAurukun

09.01.2022 Our #Aurukun school was temporarily shut the day before NAPLAN testing, and so today our children's progress was not reported in #NAPLAN results. A real shame we weren't able to highlight the great work of our teachers, DI model & supportive parents.
