21.01.2022 ****IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CHRISTMAS ISLAND RESIDENTS**** Additional Perth to Christmas Island air service for Saturday, 12 December 2020 The Australian Government is underwriting an additional Perth to Christmas Island (CI) return air passenger service on Saturday, 12 December to help meet the exceptionally high demand for flights out of CI in the first half of next month. Passenger numbers for this service out of Perth will be capped, to also help maximise freight delivery t...o CI in the pre-holiday period. This new service will complement previously announced additional IOT passenger services provided for 27 September, 11 October, 8 November, 22 November, and 20 December, and also new IOT freighter services provided for 20 November and 4 December 2020. The Government will continue to monitor and adjust IOT air service capacity as required, noting the current high demand and traveller numbers.

20.01.2022 **Important Message : IOT COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATE: Aligning CI and CKI with WA border arrangements ** In meetings today (4 November), the Emergency Management Committees of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands have endorsed the recommendation proposed by the COVID-19 subcommittee that the Indian Ocean Territories (IOT) align with the upcoming WA border and travel adjustments from November 15. This includes: Adopting the WA adjustment for very low risk sta...tes (defined as those with no community cases in 28 days currently NT, SA, ACT, TAS, and Qld) and allow travel from these jurisdictions, via WA, to the IOT without quarantine or isolation restrictions Endorsing that low risk states be categorised as jurisdictions with less than five community cases per day on a 14-day rolling average. This currently includes NSW and Victoria. Travellers from low risk states may enter the IOT after isolation/self-quarantine in WA for a period of 14 days, with a mandatory COVID-19 test on day 11. EMC also endorsed the maintaining of the current state of emergency (currently in place until 17 December, in line with national protocol). This endorsement is in line with their earlier decision to align the IOT with WA staging and border measures. People will still be required to apply for travel, to both WA and to the IOT. We continue to liaise with the WA Government to support the WA/IOT Travel Zone and operationalise the controlled borders processes. Further information will be available later through the regular Territory Controllers Update. For further information on the WA border arrangements, go to: https://www.wa.gov.au//covid-19-coronavirus-controlled-int Please like and share this post

17.01.2022 2017 : This was one of the most memorable days of my life - it was such an honour and privilege to be sworn in as the first female Administrator for Christmas Island and the first woman to be appointed in the dual role of Administrator for Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Reflecting back It is hard to believe that in 2010 I was elected as the first female to represent the NT in the House of Representatives. It is my hope that my beautiful grand-daughters grow up knowing that absolutely anything is possible. I am grateful for all of the amazing people in my life ... I am truly blessed

12.01.2022 Extension of IOT states of emergency Recognising COVID-19 remains a significant threat to the remote and vulnerable Indian Ocean Territories (IOT) communities, Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories, the Honourable Nola Marino MP, has agreed to extend the declared states of emergency in Christmas Island (CI) and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI), up until 17 December 2020, in line with the national state of emergency. The emergency declaration extensions ...will continue to support the Western Australian IOT travel zone and the ongoing movement of travellers to the IOT in a safe and controlled way. The border restrictions are being regularly considered by the IOT Emergency Management COVID-19 sub-committee in line with national protocols and evidence-based medical advice. The Australian Government understands the significant impacts COVID-19 has had on IOT communities and the economy. As the IOT continues on its pathway to recovery, the Government will continue to support local businesses, families and communities through assistance programs and tailored stimulus. As at 16 September 2020, there were no known cases of COVID-19 in the IOT. I thank the Territory Controllers, Detective Sergeant Kylie Lawson on CI, and Sergeant David Williams on CKI, supported by the Emergency Management Committees, for keeping our IOT communities COVIDSafe in our ongoing response. IOT residents should continue to follow Australian Government and local advice, including on travel restrictions, health, hygiene, physical distancing and self-isolation. Thank you for your support and willingness to abide by the measures to keep our communities and families safe over the coming months.

02.01.2022 Removal of Kampong temporary fencing Christmas Island On 10 March following a significant rock fall on Christmas Island, temporary fencing was installed within areas of Kampong as a safety precaution with specialist expert risk assessments carried out. The area is considered safe for the fencing to now be removed, with a small area between the rock berms behind Kampong to remain fenced off.... I would like to remind everyone that landslide events can occur at any time. Keeping this in mind, please do not approach or access any areas near the existing rockfall protective barriers or associated construction zones. It is critical that residents and visitors in the Kampong residential area understand the risk of land slippage and rockfall and evacuate the area immediately if alarms sound or if asked to do so. I would like to thank residents and the Christmas Island community for your patience and support for the restrictions, which were in place for your protection.
