04.01.2022 When faced with the challenge of COVID-19, Gautam and the team from Northside Community Service had to think creatively to continue running their Community Heal...th Activation Network (CHANGE) Program. Their program is about connecting the community through physical activity and involves fun events for families. It was actually exciting for us because it gave us a chance to be innovative and think outside the box to keep Gungahlin families moving. One of the events we held was an online scavenger hunt where families had to get out into nature and share photos from around town. We had around 60 families take part, which was a great turn out, says Gautam (pictured left). Instead of our usual sport and recreation expos, we hosted a series of small pop-up information sessions to promote local sporting clubs and community groups. We also launched Activities at Gungahlin where kids over five years can come and try different sports each Thursday afternoon at Moncrieff Recreation Park. It means that kids who otherwise wouldn’t get to be part of a sporting team can come and give it a go. We partner with a different club each week to showcase the fantastic healthy activities that are available in the Gungahlin region. The CHANGE program is just one of the great community-based initiatives supported through our ACT Health Promotion Grants Program to keep Canberra healthy.
