24.01.2022 CRITICAL PERIOD FOR THE FUTURE OF THE OVERLAND Horsham mayor Mark Radford says he will be making a last-ditch effort to try and save The Overland train service,... but says at this stage it looks like the service wont return. The Victorian Governments funding for the train runs out at the end of June. "At this point in time, [The Overland] wont run again," Cr Radford said. "We are appealing for the service to be continued but also want to see the promotion of the service improved." Cr Radford said he had a meeting with the Victorian Public Transport Minister Melissa Horne last week, but she did not provide a commitment to continue the train. "We both made commitments to speak to different people and to see what we could do," he said. "Its a fluid thing at this stage."

21.01.2022 Premier Daniel Andrews flags concerning rise of COVID-19 cases in regional Victoria. Mr Andrews said the latest case numbers in Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo re...main low, relative to metro Melbourne, but that any rise is concerning. "They are stable. Theyre very low numbers, but coming off such a low base, any additional cases are of concern to us," Mr Andrews said. He also reiterated caution when it comes to travelling to and from Melbourne. "I made some comments yesterday about people really just stopping and thinking about whether travel to regional Victoria or travel from regional Victoria to metropolitan Melbourne is absolutely necessary," Mr Andrews said. "I just ask people to give that little bit of extra thought to that and if theres any sense that that trip could be avoided, that that travel could be limited, well then that is conducive with less movement, less cases and getting to the other side of this." Specific LGA case numbers for regional Victoria from the last 24 hours will be released by the Health Department later today. Overall, Victoria recorded 410 new coronavirus cases overnight, and 21 deaths, the worst daily death toll since the pandemic began

21.01.2022 THE OVERLAND HAS BEEN SAVED The Victorian Government will fund The Overland train for the next three years. Funding for the train between Melbourne to Adelaide... was due to run out today. The government will provide $3.8 million to the operator Journey Beyond over the next three years. Victorias Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll said it was good news for regional residents. "We hope the company will begin to take bookings in July and be up and running again in September, the only caveat being COVID-19," he said. "This train is iconic, it has been going for 133 years and if we didnt fund it, it would be gone, and it would probably be gone forever. "To continue it and give it three years, gives everyone a bit of flexibility they need to make it the success it can be."

17.01.2022 Victoria, we have made it through some tough restrictions! Its now been 2 WEEKS of ZERO new cases of COVID!! It's amazing to see parts of Victoria are now start...ing to reopen. Due to some restrictions still in place, we currently are not able to have any of our pinball machines available to be played, therefore we are not open yet. We are heading in the right direction, restrictions are continuing to lift. We will be open in early December - exact date to be announced - but will be ready for the holiday season! Depending on the restrictions at the time of opening, it most likely will be a booking only system for visiting, not completely open for anyone to walk in off the street. See more

08.01.2022 #BREAKING Regional businesses will need determine where a customer is from before seating them or face a fine, Victorian Premier announces. To further protect ...the low COVID-19 case numbers in regional Victoria, Premier Daniel Andrews has announced businesses in the regions must "take reasonable steps" to ensure a customer hasn't travelled from Melbourne before seating them. "[From] 11:59pm on October 11, businesses in regional Victoria will be required to take all reasonable steps to determine where a person is from before they are seated," Mr Andrews said. "There is a fine of nearly $10,000, which is the standard business penalty for not complying with other parts of the COVID-safe plan. "They have to take those reasonable steps to determine whether the customer is, in fact, from regional Victoria. "And if the customer cannot satisfy the shop owner, the business, that they are from regional Victoria ... they can't be seated. You can have take away, but you can't come into the premises and stay. "I'm very confident that we're not going to have to issue any of those fines. "I think that regional businesses that are open want to stay open. They don't want outbreaks.
