24.01.2022 Finally our Chubuddy have arrived They are a fantantic super strong chew that are so versatile they can be clipped on to Clothes /Pencil Cases /Backpacks ...or worn around the neck. They increase focus, attention, and allow your child to self regulate in a discreet manner. Which strong tube Slim, Regular or Big Strong is best for my chewer? The difference between the Slim and Regular diameter tubes is just a bit over 1/8 in diameter. This translates into the following differences when chewing (these are generalizations as all chewers are unique): Big Strong Tubes (9/16 diameter) are super tough and can take very aggressive chewing. They are the strongest, longest lasting chews that chubuddy makes. -Regular tubes are a bit more robust (hold their shape longer) for older, stronger chewers 1/2 Inch (over age 12, but there are exceptions) and feel harder when chewed -Slim tubes are for younger chewers and feel softer when chewed 3/8 inch (though the hardness- durometer- is the same between the two tubes) -Alternatively, Regular tubes feel harder when chewed Made in USA Made of BPA-free, pthalates-free, lead-free, PVC-free, latex-free, non-toxic materials. They are top rack dishwasher safe. For the full range of all Strong Tubes and other Chubuddy products https://sistersensory.com.au

22.01.2022 Five Things for Self Managers that WILL NOT end in tears, and four that certainly will. There’s a lot of fear mongering about the trouble you can get into when ...you self manage. It’s unfounded. If you have to pay a term fee upfront for a service or training event, for example, and claim it based on the date of the invoice, you will not go to hell or be made to pay it back, assuming you actually attend and it is something you should be spending NDIS funds on. If you claim from the wrong bucket/support category, you will not be banished from the island or switched to Agency Managed (you just cancel the claim and reclaim, or even it out with other claims) If you buy a tipping kettle and claim it because you need one so you don’t burn yourself due to your disability, you will not be thrown under a bus, even if there’s no funds specifically allocated to low cost assistive technology. If you clump your claims together and make one claim from each category instead of individual claims for each invoice, you will not be thrown in jail. If you use hippotherapy for physiotherapy, the NDIS police will not come around and knock on your door. This is called choice and control, and it’s enshrined in the NDIS Act. The sorts of things that might get you in trouble: Overspending your plan (unless you’ve asked for a Change of circumstance review and have some form of approval) If you overspend or don’t pay your providers, you’re likely to be switched to Plan or Agency managed (unless of course, you pay privately for the rest) Not keeping all your receipts and records for five years. You need evidence of what you purchased and how much you paid, and when. And these *will* get you in trouble: Buying a red leather sofa. That’s fraud. Taking your whole family on holiday to Hawaii and charging the lot to your plan. That’s fraud. Buying equipment you don’t need and selling it on eBay to pocket the profit. That’s fraud. Using your plan funds to buy booze or illegal drugs or betting on the dogs. That’s fraud. Only those last four things are *fraud*, which can get your prosecuted and off to court. The rest are NOT FRAUD. Make sure you read a copy of the NDIS Guide to Self Management. It has a wealth of great information include a guide on how to figure out what you can buy with your NDIS funds. And my kid and his friend are featured on the front cover! Deep breath. You’ve got this. If an LAC or Planner tries to lay on a guilt trip or put the fear of God into you, politely ask them for a copy of the relevant operational guideline. pic desc: a black and white line drawing icon of a crying baby's head, overlaid with a red circle with a diagonal line across it. 16.01.2022 This was a poor attempt at capitalising on April Fool’s Day. I should have known better and apologise to all I’ve upset. I was indeed, an asshole, as pointed ou...t below. I’ll leave the post here, because I believe all of these things CAN and SHOULD be happening, but have changed it to a WishList rather than a silly April Fool’s post. THE FEDERAL BUDGET ANNOUNCEMENT WE WISH WAS REAL, but IS NOT! As part of the upcoming budget, all NDIS planners and LACs are about to undergo extensive retraining, led by a group of specially trained disabled people. Other announcements include: Participants will be able to build their own plans on the NDIS portal and submit them for approval direct to the delegate. That once funding in a plan is approved, there are no restrictions on how it is spent, other than it be legal and not used for drugs or alcohol or gambling. Plan Management will be the default money management option and price caps will be removed, and Support Coordination funds will be offered to all participants who seek extra help. 2000 new NDIS staff are to be employed and trained over the next two months to relieve the backlog of AT claims and ensure there are no plan gaps. All participants will be able to see a draft plan and negotiate any changes required before the plan is approved. So needed!! 09.01.2022 HANDWRITING PROGRESSION REQUIRES MORE THAN JUST HANDS AND FINGERS I LOVE this chart! It shows why development of the arms, elbows and forearms are just as impor...tant for handwriting development as the hands, fingers and wrists. This is why hand-eye coordination, throwing balls and other arm/hand activities are so important. https://www.missjaimeot.com/fine-motor-skills-cutting/

05.01.2022 "Also known as APD and Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), Auditory Processing Disorder is a neurological condition that impacts the way the brain is a...ble to process what is heard. Somewhere between the sounds that are heard and how the brain remembers or understands those sounds, the information is jumbled or even lost. What makes this condition so challenging to diagnose and so frustrating for many parents whose children struggle with this condition is that functional hearing is usually not affected in people with APD it is the processing of sounds that is affected." http://www.speechbuddy.com//what-is-auditory-processing-d/
