23.01.2022 The horses are out! The Mounted Branch have been out and about in the Arnold's Creek (Melton West/Harkness) area for the past couple of days, including today. T...his has been in response to a group of kids fighting there earlier this week. A number of people had been arrested that evening as a result of that incident and the police are now ensuring there are proactive patrols to prevent further incidents. I came out today to thank the Mounted Branch for patrolling our streets and was met by Arnold's Creek Primary School Principal Frank Pawlowicz who joined me in the photo with the horses. When the camera pointed, the horses started posing! So did we:) I was super impressed. With the school holidays now here I hope that you all find productive ways to stay engaged and stay safe! 21.01.2022 If you get a call out of the blue from someone claiming to be from Neighbourhood Watch Victoria, asking you to buy advertising or pay money it’s not us! We do...n’t do phone or online fundraising and we don’t sell ads into magazines or handbooks. Occasionally our local NHW groups might ask their local businesses for sponsorship to produce their community newsletters, but that's it. So if you get a cold call like this, here’s what we suggest you do: 1. Don’t give them any money or commit to a sales agreement. 2. Ask for their name and the organisation they are working for, then source a phone number for them yourself, independently. 3. If they won’t give it to you hang up. 4. Note the date, time and brief details of the call and send them to us, via www.nhw.com.au/contact or by private message here.

20.01.2022 Drag out those masks. Remember to social distance. Use the hand sanitizer and the QR Code. We've got this if we watch out for each other.

20.01.2022 Committed to building a better Victoria - and increasing safety and connections for Victorians? We have two vacancies on our Board. Find out more: https://nhw.com.au/jobs/ And direct message if you would like to know more.

20.01.2022 It’s not always easy to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK, but it could change a life. R U OK? have released an interactive conversation roleplay video to help you learn what to say after R U OK? Visit www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask to get started and learn how to ask R U OK?, listen, encourage action and check in.

20.01.2022 Did you know?... That you don't need a rego or driver description to report dangerous or hoon driving! Posting on Facebook won't stop dangerous driving in our neighbourhood, but reporting it to police will. Every time you report hoon driving it's collated with other reports in the same area. Police use this information to create target areas. The more often you report hooning, the more likely the police will be in the right place at the right time. Report dangerous or hoon drivers to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit their online reporting tool at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

19.01.2022 Tomorrow is R U OK?Day, a reminder to start a conversation that could change a life today, tomorrow and any day it's needed. After you ask the question RUOK? keep the conversation going. You may be saving their life by just talking with them :) https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

18.01.2022 HOT CARS KILL! Children can and do die in hot cars, and the risk is highest in summer. Even on mild days the temperature inside a parked car can be 20-30 degrees hotter than the temperature outside. When it’s 30 degrees outside, a child could be suffering in up to 60-degree heat. The risk of heatstroke, dehydration and death is very real!... Never leave your kids or pets in your car during warm and hot weather. If you see a child or pet in an unattended car on a warm or hot day call Triple Zero 000 and report the car colour, make and location to police or ambulance. See more

17.01.2022 Where's the safest place to put your keys when you're at home? Pop them somewhere out of sight, especially your car keys. That might be in a bathroom cabinet, a... tin in your pantry, under your dog's bed or in your handbag. Choose a spot that's out of sight and not easily accessible. 7 in 10 cars are stolen with their own keys. Car thieves will sneak into homes by taking advantage of unlocked doors and windows and look for keys left in easily accessible spots such as on a key hook, on a kitchen bench or in a bowl near the door. In most cases, car thieves will actively avoid coming into contact with the homeowner. Importantly, if you have deadlocks on any external doors, always leave a key in the lock when you're at home, so you can escape quickly in an emergency. Don't keep a car key on the same keyring and make sure you remove it from the door before you go out, if there is no-one else at home. Take our free home-security self-assessment at www.howsafeismyplace.com.au to find out where your home might be vulnerable to a break-in.

12.01.2022 It's Halloween tomorrow and if you plan on going trick or treating or having a gathering, make sure you're across the Victorian Government's coronavirus guideli...nes for Halloween. Under current restrictions, people are being encouraged to celebrate at home. But if you do wish to go trick or treating, it must be contactless no knocking on doors, no communal lolly bowls, no sharing food or drinks. And, if you’re over 12, you must wear a face mask in addition to any mask that is part of your costume. If you want to hand out lollies, DHHS recommends putting individually wrapped lollies or treats in small bags and placing them on your fence, or at your front gate. Make sure you wash your hands before preparing them. You can find the Victorian Government's full list of coronavirus guidelines and suggestions for Halloween at https://bit.ly/3mvRQxT #HappyHalloween
