22.01.2022 Awwe ... 'dem bones', they tell a story.
21.01.2022 I have had a couple of conversations recently, which have centred around the meaning of Nia: What is Nia? What does Nia stand for?... What does Nia mean? To Nia instructors and students alike, these are common questions we get asked when sharing our passion for this incredible practice with others. As a Nia instructor, it can be frustrating on some level that Nia is not very well-known, especially in Australia. Everybody knows what Yoga is and what Zumba isyet when you say Nia, you are often met with, what’s that? Yes, Nia is 9 movement modalities blended together, yes it is physical movement, yes it is dance and exercise. Yet, when it comes to describing the more that Nia is, words often fall short; The body-mind-emotion-spirit connection, the freedom and joy you feel, the emotional releases that sometimes come, the cleansing and healing that occurs (in body, mind emotion, spirit and soul), the mindfulness, the way the rest of the world falls away for an hour, stepping out of class feeling relaxed and energised at the same time, the deep connection with oneself and others, the glow that emanates from you for the rest of the day or even week after class, the sacred space, the variety in each class, the overall Nia journey, your journey of self-discovery and more! I was thinking the other day, I actually love that a lot of people don’t know what Nia is; this leaves room for interpretation, which I feel is inherent to the magic of Nia. I think it is absolutely beautiful because Nia is such a unique practice! I believe everybody has their own personal interpretation and experience of Nia and what it means to them. Nia really isn’t something that can be explained, it is something that needs to be experienced first-hand. If you want the semantics, historically, Nia was originally considered an acronym for "Neuromuscular Integrative Action"...it's pretty clear why that didn't catch on. Then it was for "Non-Impact Aerobics". Now, it is written as "Nia" because it is no longer to be thought of as an acronym. Just like Yoga and Zumba aren't acronyms, Nia is the same. Nia allows you to create your own magic; to craft your own experience of moving and living both in and out of class. The Nia door is always open and the choice is yours as to when if ever you choose to step in to a class and into the magic of Nia. #nia #niamovingtoheal #nia5stages #nialifestyle #niadance #niaaustralia #niahq #niatechnique #nianow #niatv #niaclass #goldcoast #movement #movementismedicine #joy #magic #whatisnia
20.01.2022 THEY ARRIVED!!! New flyers and business cards (Flyer is double sided)
19.01.2022 I’m on the journey of becoming even closer friends with my body. I’m learning to listen to its messages even more - and beyond just listening, I’m learning to respond to what it is telling me. I’m saying, thank you, body and demonstrating my gratitude by acting upon its requests. I’m learning to cooperate (in relationship) with my body. ... From Nia trainings, I have learnt that the language of the body is sensation. Two major sensations through which the body communicates are pleasure and pain. The more you tune in to what feels good - and what doesn’t feel good - the clearer the communication channel becomes. Your body no longer has to scream to get your attention, as you begin to notice the whispers. Nia has definitely helped (and continues to help) me establish and strengthen my relationship with my body and my love for my body. I discovered some new things about my body this week, which have given me a deeper understanding of how to appropriately care for it and look after it to avoid injury and long-term damage. I’m grateful for the uniqueness of my body and the things it does that most other bodies do not do!! Yet, there is an imbalance and I need to work with my body to repair that. Thank you, Body. I love you, Body
17.01.2022 Led a wonderful online class this morning focusing on the thigh bones with the intent of sensing more support and ability to move through life with ease. I loved connecting with my thigh bones and letting them inspire my movements. They really enjoyed lengthening, rotating and slow kicks! I enjoyed sensing the relationship between my upper leg bones (thigh bone / femur) and my upper arm bones. ... While moving with attention on my thigh bones, I felt more ease in moving my knees. It felt like my knees were moving independently and freely and I sensed the muscles in the front of my thighs and at the top of my knees activating to naturally bend and extend, open and close my knee joints. Focusing on my thigh bones changed the sensation of movement in my hips and pelvis as well as my knees; The movement felt easier and rounder, more natural and less manual. I also sensed strong support form my thigh bones and enjoyed playing with the Nia Stances, Weight Shift, deconstructed Front/Side/Back Kicks, Toes In/Out/Parallel, Knee Sweeps, toe circles, Pelvic Circles, Rock-Around-The-Clock and the Nia 5 Stages. Grateful to walk out of class into my day with ease, a sense of support and strength and feeling empowered. [The thigh bone] is an upright, vertical stilt that makes it possible for us to move when it works in conjunction with the hip joint. What keeps us shifting our body weight in a very graceful way is the rocking of the pelvis, which occurs at the top of the thighbone Dancing through life tip: Move and get support from the balls (of the femur), not from using thigh muscles. Sense freedom in your spine as you walk and move on the balls of your strong thighbone support. #nia #nia5stages #niamovingtoheal #niam2h #niadance #niatechnique #anatomy #thighbone #femur #joints #thebodysway #joyofmovement #happythighbones

05.01.2022 It’s fun to dance! I love Nia!
02.01.2022 Had a magical class this morning, dancing with the home of our heart - our chest. We stepped in listening to the voice of the chest with the intention to feel the movement of love and life within us. It was beautiful to imagine the ribcage as a gentle birdcage that houses the heart and to dance the shoulder girdles like a halo. Moving from the chest and heart felt much more centred and grounded. I found my chest and heart like smaller movements, moving in and out from the ce...ntre, rather than around the space. Focusing on expansion, breath and creating space helped me connect deeply with this area of my body. Imagining the fingers like ribs and the spaces between the fingers like the spaces between each individual rib allowed me to really sense my hands as an extension of my chest and of my heart. I could feel the energy of my heart pulsing in my palms. At one point in particular, I sensed my heartbeat syncing up identically with the rhythm of the music. I know music has this effect, however to really feel and sense it in my hands was extremely moving. I chose to take that energy and pulse it out into the space and into the world and encouraged people attending the class to do the same. The power of the Chi energy that was created, right from the start through to the very end of class, manifested a sense of connectedness and a rapport that was felt by everybody. The opening circle today was absolutely magical. Coming together with other amazing and inspiring women to move in our power, feeling connected to our hearts and each other, in a sacred space is a gift and a blessing. One for which I am truly grateful
