24.01.2022 Having competed in other competitions over the last few weeks, the NIAS MTB squad most recently competed at the Glenrock Grand Prix 4 hour race. As and endurance based event we had two teams of two competing, and one individual athlete who joined over 200 hundred riders in the event. Jock Hollis (having competed at the Hunter Schools MTB the day before) came away in first place in his solo category. Jock Barwick and Tom Dundon raced as a team in the U...15's where they also finished top on the podium Harrison Crowley and Andy Blair placed third in their race category - only 1 minute behind 2nd place. 24.01.2022 NIAS has great pleasure to announce the 2020 Communicators of the Year!!! This award was introduced to the Academy back in 2012 and is donated by the generous team at the Telstra Store Tamworth. It recognises excellent communication and engagement via our Team App system with coaching staff and the academy over the program year. Being a different year in 2020, communication with the Academy also went beyond this during COVID-19 restrictions as programs were delivered onli...ne. The two athletes chosen for this award in 2020 went above and beyond in their communications with the Academy. 23.01.2022 Have you applied for the following NIAS programs yet? NIAS are introducing a high performance football program this year, set to commence in February! This program is offered to boys and girls in the U7-U16 age group in 2021 (born 2005-2016). Not only this but applications to join the NIAS netball development program (girls aged 12-13 years old in 2021 or born 2008-2009) will close in a few weeks, as will applications for the Athletics program (boys and girls aged 13-17 years in 2021, born 2004-2008, or 11 -12 years in 2021, born 2009-2010 for the development squad). 21.01.2022 Well done to 2020 NIAS Athletics athletes Brooke Newberry, Caleb Bettison and Bella Sawyer for their efforts in competing over the weekend at the 2020 NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships. Brooke competed in the 13 years 3000m race walk (9th place with a 2 min 41 sec PB). Caleb competed in the 15 years 2000m Steeplechase (4th place with a 20 second PB), 3000m run (9th place out of 25 competitors) and 1500m run where he placed 9th in the prelim finals. Bella competed in the 13 years high jump (4th place, 1.55m jump), and the long jump event (13th place out of 32 with a jump of 4.56m). Well done to you all! 15.01.2022 Athlete Achievement NIAS Gunnedah Services & Bowling Club Lone Star athlete Cadence McShane has had another busy month in the pool, racking up more medals and PB's to her name. Competing in the North Coast Area Championships at the end of May, Cadence raced in the 400m freestyle where she placed first , the 50m freestyle where she placed 3rdwith a new PB and also the 50m breaststroke where she placed 2nd also with a new PB. 14.01.2022 Athlete Achievement Congratulations to NIAS Athletics program athlete Caleb Bettison on smashing out a national qualifier last weekend. Caleb competed at the NSW 3000m Championships in Homebush where he ran a 30 second personal best in the 3km. The national qualifying standard that Caleb had to reach was 9 minutes 20 seconds. 13.01.2022 Congratulations to 2020 NIAS Athletics athletes Caleb Bettison and Brooke Newberry on their achievements when competing last night at the NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships. Brooke raced in the 3000m race walk where she achieved a massive 2 minute 41 second PB to place 9th in her age group! Caleb competed in the 2000m Steeplechase finishing with a 20 second PB and placed 4th in his age group, tailing behind 3rd place by less than half a second! Well Done Caleb and ...Brooke, these are excellent results! Caleb will be competing across two other events this weekend, as will fellow NIAS athlete Bella Sawyer.
