25.01.2022 Sensory Skin. Another soulful piece by Lis Addison. Makes me feel floaty. Lis is in Adelaide this weekend. Message me if curious x Link to KiVo workshop in comm...ents below. A word from Lis: Hello and thank you, Nat and friends. My name is Lis Addison and I am an American Composer and Songwriter that has been invited to Australia by Nia Australia because I composed an album that Nia turned into a routine. In addition to performing my music live while dancers dance, I am offering a workshop in my signature practice Kinetic Voice (KiVo) which is a healing and empowerment practice blending vocals and dance. Much of the practice is done in a call and response circle and draws from the wisdom of our ancestors. Be well, Lis See more
24.01.2022 This is a little thing inspired by Fighting Monkey classes I used to do with Luke Sebastiani. I wanted to get my son off the screens so I asked him to help me with some movement demo. He refused to be in the shot, so we used a very long cue stick. Anyway, this is great for you because YOU decide in your own bodys way how you will avoid the stick from touching you. It doesnt feel like exercise. Its fun. And it will get the circulation going and your joints moving. Floor mov...ement is incredibly healthy for your body, mind and emotions. This is like exercising and grounding at the same time. Thank you to Hana Brenecki for allowing me to use her VERY cool music. You can find this song on Spotify - Kate Alexander and Hana Breneckis Be Good To Me. Support local musos and purchase here OMG YOU CAN GET IT ON VINYL!!!!! https://katealexanderhanabrenecki.bandcamp.com/releases #exercise #isolation #movewithkids #kateandhana #inspiration #worktogether #makeitfun #cuestick #cuestickchallenge #supportmusic

18.01.2022 We are artists. And we all are art. Everything is art. Nia classes will recommence with me all, I promise. Not sure why there is delay with the hall opening back up. I may have to find a different venue xxx Ill keep you all up to date
18.01.2022 Hey all, Ive been dancing under the marquee. Distancing rules working well. Not many students joining so plenty of space in between dancers. We are outdoors. We arent moving around through the space in freedance - keeping to our own area, so its a variation on true free dancing. And we are opting not to do cool down and stretch on the floor as that would be a surface your body and hands would be touching. It feels very healthy and energising to move and dance to our gorgeo...us music outside in the very fresh Adelaide Hills air. Outdoor exercise is allowable. Please remember that although we are closing ourselves in our homes, it is healthy to get outside and move your body, and with this autumn weather I hope to make the most of the few days of sun. Gee I really want to make some online videos of movement and specifically movement with a partner, assuming you have family/friends with you at home. One thing that does concern me with the current rules - which are important for stopping the spread of COVID-19 - is whether this isolation will quickly make people a little uncomfortable with being around others when it is all over. The human brain is very plastic and changes quite quickly when we are put into an unfamiliar situation. The trauma of disconnecting with community might cause short or long term resistance to intimate social interactions. I dont know that this will definitely be a thing, but please as much as you can, find ways to connect. Maybe walking outdoors where you get to chat (at a distance) with others; keep phoning loved ones; Skype/zoom/whatsapp/messenger phoning and FaceTime can do a lot to keep your mind community focused. Do lots of exercise together, where there is some physical contact. I know some of you have dirty minds and by all means, enjoy. But what I mean is if you are home with friends/family/relatives/any group you are isolating together with, let there be close contact. Hug daily(within your isolating home), hold hands, a little touch on the shoulder. I am finding just chatting from our distance before and after Nia in the mornings to be immensely beneficial. Times like this it becomes too easy to just not want to connect, and go into our own bubble. Needing space from those in close quarters is important too, but if youre isolating within the same home, dont treat each other as though you all have koodies. Were human beings. We all need affection and connection. See more
17.01.2022 Here's a fun exercise to do with grown kids. Especially when they refuse to be in the shot. Take turns. Turn on some very cool music. And avoid the cue stick like you'll catch a virus if it touches you. Good for leg strength, flexibility, mobility, spatial awareness, proprioception and for fun!
17.01.2022 This is worth reading and absorbing. Sending you peace
16.01.2022 Nia White Belt presented in the Adelaide Hills amongst a natural gumtree forest in an outdoor setting. A large canopy will shade you from the elements but just outside your movement space is 21 acres of both natural Adelaide Hills habitat, and lovely paddocks with roaming alpacas. This is the first White Belt being presented in Australia in 2020. Happy Valentines Day to you and your body All White Belt takers entered into a draw to win two night stay for two at the retreat location.
16.01.2022 Loving the Adelaide Hills. We look forward to many retreats, workshops, classes and trainings at the new property. So blessed to be getting mentored by Adelaide And Hills Koala Rescue (1300-Koalaz) to be effective and informed volunteer rescuers. We love that we can bring communities together into the peaceful, caring atmosphere where we live now. Voice, movement, and Chakra Chants trainings in Feb with Lis Addison. Nia White Belt - somatic, embodied life training in March with Sophie Marsh.
16.01.2022 Come and dance with us tonight 6:30-7:30 at 1 May Tce., Brooklyn Park. Well get this year started with the latest routine Ignite focussing on the Hara. The intent is to move from your centre in and out of space and to enhance your awareness 360 degrees around you. Dance what you sense, express emotion and condition yourself holistically. I have really loved stopping altogether for some reason. Ive been looking at whats happened around Australia and wondering what I can d...o. The Hara is a good focus. According to website haraline.com the energy gate through which the Earth Chi life force is brought into the body and held for distribution is through the Hara. I always find that when I walk focussing on the Hara, my posture effortlessly corrects itself. I intend to dance focussing on the Hara, and see what that does for me. The Hara is 1.5-2 inches below the belly button. It is the centre of our being. Imagine an invisible line connecting that centre to all outer most extremities - the hands and fingertips; the feet and tiptoes. Whenever we move in and out from the centre, that area of the Hara, is the stability point for all our movement - even from the top of the head, and beyond the tailbone, connecting us right into the earth. The feeling I get from this is very intuitive, and sacred. See more
15.01.2022 Hey you guys, Ill be posting a bit of mini dance things here later - set to the music of some Indi artists here in Oz. So you can listen to awesome original music, maybe support local artists too. But in the meantime, heres a fun routine to keep you entertained. Thank you #pamelapupkin #washyourhands #workit https://youtu.be/HOiO79nRpp8
15.01.2022 Darling dancers! No Nia tonight due to school holidays. We’ll be back next Tuesday (October 13) with a brand new routine 1 May Tce., Brooklyn Park 6:30pm $10/class. Or $25 for the last three weeks of October x
15.01.2022 When I am struggling with a challenging situation, or challenging thoughts or emotions, I have a mantra. I am love. And then I can see the situation with greater clarity. I am love because you are love. We are love. In my most centred moments, I find myself recognising strangers at some level that surprises me. And then I remember, Im recognising love - me and you and them. We are the same.
15.01.2022 Same as yesterday's video but this time the rule is to keep the body on the floor while evading the cue stick. Stay low for more upper body strength, spiraling joints, lots of mobility, and enhancing reflexes and mind/body connection. This is ideal for anybody working in pairs as you don't both need to be the same height or strength, so any two people can workout together, even a kid and an adult. Basically as soon as we decide the floor is no longer a cool place to play, we ...are losing the very foundation of movement ability. Seriously. Even if you don't wriggle all over the place like me here, do yourself a favour and lie down, then get up. Make it a regular practice. You don't want to be that elderly person in the future who slips and then is gripped with fear and won't get up because they have lost their relationship with the floor. The floor is our friend. Thanks again to Hana for allowing me to move to this song, "Eight Tonne Shackles". From the album Southlands by Hana and Jessie Lee. BUY THEIR ALBUM HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://hanajessielee.bandcamp.com Also, check out the cool youtube clip of their song in comments below xo Featuring Elle Brenecki and Joel Kohn.

11.01.2022 This will be an incredible 3 hour workshop with Lis Addison. Self healing through voice and movement, and connection with nature.
10.01.2022 Heres a fun exercise to do with grown kids. Especially when they refuse to be in the shot. Take turns. Turn on some very cool music. 10.01.2022 Hey all, the hall at 1 May Tce is still not quite ready to bring us hirers back. But I’ll be teaching some specialised classes up at our home in Bridgewater starting Monday. This will be based on classic NIA. Super gentle, and more an exploration of how we get our bodies, minds and spirits re-aligned. We’ll be bringing ourselves back to self awareness, of sensory awareness, and love of movement or as we say in Nia, Joy of movement. So Monday morning at 9:30am I will start wit...h simply the stances of Nia. Closed stance, open stance, A stance, Sumo stance, Cat Stance and Bow stance. Everything about being human is movement. This class is for anybody who for any reason hasn’t been moving as efficiently as they’d like, or as much as they’d like, or as consciously, or if they are reading this thinking what is Joy of movement? PM me for details. I’ll take inspiration for my first class back from this video by Nia founder Debbie Rosas. I think we can come back to loving our bodies. And realising how sacred movement is to us.

07.01.2022 Tragedy gives us greater compassion and unity, sense of community and generosity. I just asked Nikki Boorroo Spirit for advice. If we are to meditate or pray, w...hat would be important in our focus and intentions. Her answer was I ask that people who want to meditate and pray set the intention that spirit provides what is needed at this time for the highest of all concerned. And this is what Im sharing from Boorroo: Use the energy of the fires to burn away anything that no longer serves you, any old thoughts, patterns, beliefs etc. what is most important to you at this time? What are your most precious and needed things would you take with you if you had to abandon your home if you were in this situation? What truly matters in this world? As I watch from the outside as a mere witness, at times being held at my parents home in Batemans Bay over the past several weeks unable to get home due to road closures and now their home which gathers many family and friends in a loving space has had to be evacuated, I think about whats truly important? (They are safe and so is their home). For those who know mum know how organised she is and what was most important for her and dad to take with them was old photos, paperwork and their aboriginal paintings, some done by those in our family no longer here- so what was most important was family and connections to Country. What do we have left after everything has been burnt away? Each Other... Now instead of feeding this time with fear, Ive chosen to hold this time in loving embrace and remember what fire is. Fire is cleansing and transformative, fire burns all poisons. Fire clears and cleanses. Weve had a lot of trauma on the South Coast, massacres, all forms of abuse and violence, either from others or from ourselves. These fires and smoke are here to assist in clearing the energy of these stories. Country needs this, we as humanity need this. I watch as people truly come together to support each other the best way they can, instead of being a divided society we have grown to become for many reasons. People willing to share what little they have with complete strangers. Mother Nature is fighting back and showing us what we need to look at, the healing and coming together as community we have refused to do before now. This time has shown we cant depend on the government system, we can depend on each other. People say we are sick because Country is sick, I believe Country is sick because we as a society are sick. Sad to say we have caused this, by doing or not doing. The only real question now is, what is it were going to do to heal it? Weve been through many catastrophes in many lifetimes and now we have the opportunity to do things differently, and together, black, white, red, yellow, rainbow, whatever, weve all been affected one way or another..... Boorroo 1/1/2020 The time of New Creation
07.01.2022 Hey all, Im teaching my usual class this evening 6:30pm @ 1 May Tce., Brooklyn Park. Just in light of virus spreading we will not hug, Ill do a variation on floor exercises, well keep FreeDance to our own space rather than moving throughout the room, and be mindful of keeping some distance between dancers. Movement and getting into the Joy feelings I believe will be so beneficial to our immune systems. But if you are concerned and prefer not to join class, I love and respe...ct all your decisions always. I could also offer a bit of online dancing. And dont forget theres always NiaTV.fit See more

06.01.2022 Yes to this testimonial. Todays the last day to receive A$150 off the Adelaide White Belt training. Heres a beautiful testimonial from a recent South African White Belt grad. Theres So much I can say about the wonderful White Belt experience I have had this last week! I could go on about the amazing new friends Ive made, the awakening of my soul & mind ... and the absolute sensation of appreciating my body & its new moves that bring such joy into my previously motio...nless life! But instead I found a quote that actually sums up all the new emotions that Ive realised in the last week and which will be my purpose for this year ... and suddenly you just know its time to start something new and trust in the magic of beginnings. I just know that its time to trust in Nia and the magic its going to bring into my life. Thank you ... truly ... Thank You!! Kelly xx" (thank you Trainer Susan Sloan) https://www.eventbrite.com/e/89993977409 And from me, I get what she is saying. When I was about to do my Nia training, it was really because Id been enjoying the fitness aspect of movement and dance, and I thought itd be fun and worthwhile to teach it. But the training surprised me. I learned ways to understand my body, to relax and I noticed the connection between brain, body and emotions. Sophies ability to open me up to genuinely understanding how my thoughts affect body sensations have led to many occasions when I have been able to remove pain from an injury - this is just one example of how Nia benefits me. The practice of Nia talks about the science and art of the body, how body mind emotions spirit are interconnected, and how to consciously integrate all the aspects of yourself. And about playfulness and being childlike in your contemplation of yourself. So youve removed the stories and conditioning that have influenced what you believe to be true. Its like a clear start. What I also love probably the most though in this world of competing practises, is that through Nia, Ive become so much more open, aware, and exploratory of every kind of movement practice. It all can lead to the same thing(better health, awareness, mindfulness). Nia is probably the first practice Ive found where trainers embrace ideas and principles of many healing, movement, dance, and endless other modalities - and THAT to me is true love, growth, compassion and truth. And you turn up as YOU. Theres no guru. Theres no picture of what youre supposed to dress, act, or be like. Keep being the you-est of you you can be. xxx
06.01.2022 Until I start teaching again, Im pouring everything into this. If you can, come along to our maiden performance Friday, July 31st @ The Arkaba. Link for $10 tickets in comments below. Or log into the livestream thru YouTube. xo

05.01.2022 Hi Nia dancers, I have received a message from our church hall at 1 May Tce., Brooklyn Park. Its been advised that due to there being vulnerable people using the space occasionally, if anybody has even the mildest of symptoms of anything, to please not turn up to the hall. I have a seasonal sinus thing. It may sound drastic but out of respect of the dear people looking after the hall and church - and it may fall into the category of locations not to attend anyway by PM tonig...ht - Im postponing any dancing in the hall Tuesday nights. I told the coordinator there that I will wait until after the school holidays so that I will know there is nothing other than stuffed nose. I feel it is good sense, and respectful of others to err on the side of caution the way things have been recently. We have outdoor space at our property however. I am conducting daily 9:30am classes at 20 Cichon Rd., Bridgewater this week until March 26(unless we go into lockdown) The class is outdoors. There is no movement anywhere around the dance space ie. keeping within our own dance area. Numbers are strictly limited. Up to 5 under the marquee. Up to 10 if we dance on the grass or front courtyard. See more

01.01.2022 Reminder - Nia tonight starts at 6:30pm due to less daylight at night xxx 302 Henley Beach Rd., Underdale $10 per class or $30 for the month of April We wont have Taekwondo mats tonight.
01.01.2022 This is cue stick challenge on the lowest plane of movement. Basing movement down on the floor. The goal is for both people to work in cooperation with each other. The stick dude wants to make sure their movement is complementary of the dudette working on the floor. Working with each other, not against. The idea is to stay as close to the ground as possible, but do what you have to do to avoid the stick. If you dont have a cue stick, you can use a brook stick, or a random stick of any kind.
