25.01.2022 Some pictures of Prekinders sports day this morning. Lots of fun today celebrating end of term 3!

24.01.2022 Hi Families We are pleased to announce that enrolments for 2021 are now open! All current daycare families will have forms in their child’s pockets outside their rooms. We have attached forms here for you also if that is easier but please get them returned by no later than Thursday 22nd October. This also includes the same date for 3 year old prekinder applications for those who were on the waiting list to apply for a spot in this program.... All current families MUST reapply for positions for the following year they do not automatically roll over. All new families on our waiting list will have their forms posted out today. Thanks Nic & Tara Coordinators Kialla Children’s Centre

23.01.2022 Our Possums children enjoying some outdoor activity on the new equipment we purchased. The educators set up a their own ninja course this morning and it is certainly a hit with all the children!

23.01.2022 What a great day for the children to be outdoors enjoying the sunshine!

23.01.2022 Some of our Wallabies helped Nic out in the community garden this morning to do some planting. We put in some petunias, silverbeet, spinach and thyme in our garden beds. The children enjoyed lots of digging, turning over the soil & helping to plant and then finally using our watering cans to water all our new plants.

23.01.2022 Dont forget Fathers Day is coming up soon and we still have some cool socks with our Jolly soles fundraiser! There are two specifically for our Dad's - "Dad you're Da Bomb" and 'Dad - No one will ever measure up" plus lots of other funky styles.

23.01.2022 Children of different ages and stages use and create with blocks in different ways. Toddlers love to carry blocks all over the place and can be very creative with putting them in and out of different materials to make this easier! They also begin to stack and form the first simple towers as they explore cause and effect, spatial awareness and balance. Older children will begin to explore and experiment with engineering and problem solving skills as they start to build roadway...s, bridges, complicated structures and also use the blocks to connect to other areas of their play like dramatic and imaginary play. A couple of our Wallabies children have spent a long time working on their block building together this morning outside. Our educators were asked if we could safely put their work aside so that it didnt get broken as they were so proud of what they had created. Why then do we save children's work? We want to ensure there is plenty of room to build, create, extend and investigate. We need to record and display the hard work even after it needs to be packed away at some stage. We try not packing away if possible for a few days so the children can continue to revisit and extend upon their play. There are so many opportunities for the children to continue to learn and build on their skills!

22.01.2022 A big thank you to the Warren family who have purchased and donated two more chickens for our community garden today. Unfortunately we lost a chicken a few weeks back so we only had one chicken left so we really needed some friends for her as she was lonely. Thank you Warren family!!

21.01.2022 A reminder to all 2021 - 4 year old kinder families to return your confirmations and group selection forms for kinder next year please by no later than Friday. If you are not accepting your child's position, please notify the centre asap. Thanks ... Nic & Tara

19.01.2022 This afternoon our Possums children & educators planned a surprise birthday party for their friend Gary (puppet who has been a part of their room this year). He is turning 37 next week he told them all so they thought they should plan a surprise birthday party for today instead! They baked a cake & enjoyed hiding in the garden waiting for Gary to arrive. Garys friend Wendy was also there for the surprise! Happy 37th Birthday Gary! (There are a couple of videos and pictures been added to this post further on)

19.01.2022 Today we would like to thank our KCC Community for all the support they have given our fundraisers throughout 2020. We are very fortunate that our families have continued to support the centre wherever they could, whether it be buying a pair of Jolly Soles socks or purchasing some delicious goods from Higgins Bakery in our Pie Drive. Resources are continually needed throughout the centre and today we were able to utilise some of the fundraising money to purchase bluetooth speakers for all day care and prekinder/kinder rooms. The children at KCC will be able to listen to relaxing music at rest/sleep times and enjoy many music and movement activities in both the indoor and outdoor environments!

19.01.2022 Dont forget to purchase your Jolly Soles! We have lots of fun colors and patterns in both kids and adult sizes and they are selling fast. Dont forget there are also a few Father's Day socks as well if you want something fun for Dad/Pop.

16.01.2022 Daycare has had a monthly evacuation procedure this morning for a code black. We have different color codes for different types of emergencies & its important that we practise these drills on different days so that all children & educators are familiar with these procedures.

14.01.2022 Look at all our little helpers who have been busy in the garden pulling out some plants that we no longer want in the daycare playground. They are outside the main entrance for anyone who would like to take them!

13.01.2022 We have been given some books in both paper and hardback for parents / families to look at in our reception. We have been asked to share these with families who may be interested in purchasing them for their own keepsake. (please note we are not selling them directly but there is a link on their poster to order) Its called "The Story of 2020" by Nicole Connellan. The blurb says...."Our hope for this is to prompt intentional conversations about outlook and perspective with y...our family." The year 2020 started out very differently to any other year as we live through the Covid pandemic so its a story of all our lives as families and who we have become. This book can help us all tell a story of this year with our children and all the positives that we can take from 2020. If you are intereseted in looking at the book you can see it in reception on display.

12.01.2022 Today we practised an emergency evacuation procedure for the whole centre. It is important that we practise these regularly with children so that it is a familiar procedure and is conducted in a calm manner. "Emergency situations, if managed successfully, are an opportunity to help support and build on childrens coping mechanisms and resilience." (EYLF)

07.01.2022 Today we made the significant decision to go to Stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne and Stage 3 in regional Victoria. Its a tough call but one that had to be mad...e. Based on the advice of Victorian and national health experts, we need to go further in our efforts to drive the Coronavirus numbers down. So what does this mean for schools and early childhood? On Monday, students and staff will continue as they have been. Tuesday will be a pupil free day for schools. From Wednesday in metropolitan Melbourne all students in p-12 will learn remotely. On-site supervision will be available for students of permitted workers, vulnerable students, and in some cases, students with disabilities. From Thursday early childhood services in Melbourne will also only be open to families of defined workplaces where the child needs care and to vulnerable children. In regional Victoria all students will learn remotely although our specialist schools will remain open for students. On-site supervision will be available for all students of permitted workers, vulnerable students and any student with a disability. Early childhood services will also remain open as normal in regional Victoria. I know this is challenging for everyone but it something we simply have to do. We have no choice if we want to slow the spread of the virus. This is all about stopping around 1 million students, their families and teachers from moving around the state. For VCE students my message is clear. You will sit your exams and you will receive an ATAR by the end of the year. I know it is challenging but we will support you every step of the way. 2020 is turning out to be a year that none us could even imagine. But if we all stick together we will get through this. Thank you to our amazing principals, teachers, and school and early childhood staff who continue to do an outstanding job in circumstances that are extremely difficult. I could not be prouder of the work you do.

07.01.2022 Our Joeys yard got a mini make over yesterday of their sandpit! We have added a fence at the end so that our Joeys don't fall down the step, especially our babies who are learning to walk and navigate different heights! A great example of where our fundraising dollars go to making playground improvements.

06.01.2022 To all KCC Families & Visitors, As you will be aware of Daniel Andrews announcement yesterday for everyone in regional Victoria to wear masks and this impacts on our service as of Monday 3rd August. Over the past several months we have adhered to the following;... making sure all unwell staff, children and visitors remain at home reduce mixing of children by separating cohorts including the staggering of meal and play times enhanced personal hygiene for children, staff and parent/carer(s) follow appropriate cough etiquette and make sure liquid soap and running water, or alcohol-based hand sanitiser, is available at the entrance of the facility and throughout the service influenza vaccination for children, staff and parent/carer(s) - the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has advised that the influenza vaccinations should be undertaken wherever possible. Additional cleaning throughout the centre indoor and outdoor environments regularly throughout the days operations We have also asked for no one to enter the service if: they have been in contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 14 days they have a fever or symptoms of acute respiratory infection for example, a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath. In line with advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government has announced that from 11.59pm on Sunday 2 August 2020 face coverings are mandatory for all Victorians aged 12 and over when they leave home. This will help reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and help protect the community. Face coverings in early childhood education and care (ECEC) services In ECEC services, including kindergartens: it is not mandatory for teachers and educators to wear a face covering while working with children, but those who wish to do so can staff are required to wear face coverings when not working with children in other areas of the service (for example, in reception areas, staff rooms and foyers, when providing first aid or taking temperatures), and in travelling to and from your service parents are required to wear face coverings at drop-off and pick-up times children aged under 12 are not required to wear a face covering. Face coverings should never be placed on children aged under two due to choking and strangulation risks. A person who has a medical condition including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition is not required to wear a mask or face covering. At this stage we will continue taking childrens temperatures on arrival. Any further changes from the Department of Early Childhood & Training will be relayed via email or facebook as soon as we are made aware. Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time. Regards Nic & Tara Coordinators Kialla Childrens Centre
