19.01.2022 QCAT recently upheld a decision of the Office of State Revenue to deny a family the first home owner grant because they purchased a display home rather than a new home, which did not constitute an eligible transaction. The Home Builder Scheme commenced on 4 June and provides eligible owner-occupiers with a grant of $25,000. The eligibility criteria is strict and includes an income cap. It is critical to determine eligibility prior to signing any contract to purchase, build or renovate. 17.01.2022 On 23 April the Coronavirus Economic Response Package Omnibus Act 2020 commenced. The Act provides greater security and protection for debtors from insolvency for 6 months until 24 September 2020. The minimum judgment amount required to serve a bankruptcy notice is now $20,000 (previously $5,000). The minimum debt amount required to serve a statutory demand is now $20,000 (previously $2,000). We can assist with negotiating financial stress with your creditors. We can also advise creditors on their scope to pursue debt recover whilst this Act is operational.
