17.01.2022 Debbie Smith directs the Tony Award-winning drama "The Elephant Man" which tells the true story of a disfigured man, Joseph Merrick, who inspired others to look beyond their limitations. Rescued from a circus freak show by Dr Frederick Treves, Treves discovers that Merrick has an intelligent mind and introduces him to Victorian London society to socialise him. But realises that he may have been using Merrick to advance his own career. An inspiring story of courage and dignity.... Our wonderful cast includes: Jack Berry as John Merrick; Nicholas Gledhill as Frederick Treves; Melanie Robinson as Mrs Kendall; William Jordans as Ross (Merrick's nasty manager); Marty O'Neill as Carr Gomm; Peter Hayes as Bishop How; Denise Kitching as Miss Sandwich; Madeleine Solomon; Claire Brew and Eoin O’Sullivan. Debbie Smith has directed over 25 full length plays and assisted on dozens more as AD, SM, choreographer, set designer and PM. She has directed for Genesian Theatre Company, Twin Town Players, Riverside Lyric Ensemble, New Theatre: Education programme, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill Theatre. Her most recent work includes directing Far from the Madding Crowd (GTC 2016), choreographing Our House (GTC 2016), COSI (LCTC 2017), The Shape of Things (New Theatre 2017), Deathtrap (King Street Theatre 2017). She is currently on the Board of the Genesian Theatre.
