25.01.2022 The very first moments of Nicholas Projects was in a bar across the road from Carriageworks at the Sydney Contemporary art fair in September 2015. We had finally found a suitable space in the famous Nicholas Building in Melbourne and decided to reference the building and it’s long history as a cultural and creative hub in our namesake. We held our first exhibition in November 2015, and since then have held 25 on-site exhibitions, working with over 30 artists over a two year p...eriod. It is on this two-year milestone of the project that our next exhibition of work by Kristin Bauer will be the last exhibition at the gallery space. Kristin’s exhibition opens this Friday 15th September at 6pm. We would like to give a huge thank you thank all the supporters of Nicholas Projects. From those who initially helped putting the walls and gallery together, to our patrons who generously supported our vision for the gallery and ensured that we never had to pass on any costs to our artists to exhibit at the gallery (something we are immensely proud of and was one of our first goals we achieved), to all of our wonderful volunteers, to those that gave us advice and guidance, to all our exhibiting artists and curators, and of course to everyone who supported the artist and us by coming to openings and supporting our endeavour. Nicholas Projects will continue with site-specific exhibitions in the future. We hope to see everyone at the opening opening of Kristin Bauer’s exhibition ‘In Parallel’ (Kristin has come all the way from Arizona for the exhibition), which will also serve as a closing party for the gallery. With love, Addie, Ben and James

15.01.2022 Aaron Christopher Rees Deanna Hitti Kathryne Honey and Nicholas McGinnity. Curated by Katie Paine.... Friday, 23rd March Saturday, 8th April. This exhibition explores the conservation term inherent vice, a notion referring to when an object physically contributes to its own degradation. The exhibition investigates the ubiquitous and often destructive power of the image, when used to document a moment in time. However, when reproduced, the image’s power is finite: ultimately, it is destined to warp, degrade and is gradually lost to entropy.

09.01.2022 Opening Friday 25th August at Nicholas Projects: 'FW18' by James Little. The advent of 'screen-based' daily realities has shaped the way that contemporary audiences engage and access content, and ultimately this heightened accessibility has affected the way in which art is critiqued, as well as produced. FW18 explores the idea of space in reference to the physical and ‘the screen’, or online spaces. Serving as a milestone in a year-long Instagram based project - where exhib...itions were digitally created using existing gallery photos and posted online as faux documentation of actual exhibitions - this exhibition addresses credentialism, post-truth political ideologies, and problematises relationships that exist between multiple unilateral environments. www.facebook.com/events/271580936579512/

08.01.2022 With sadness we post this, but also with positivity whilst we stand with Kristin. Her words below: Announcement: Life is precious and at times unpredictable. Due to difficult unforeseen family circumstances involving a prognosis for a close family member, which will require my local presence for several weeks and prevents international travel, Nicholas Projects of Melbourne, AUS and I have decided to reschedule my solo show (originally scheduled for March) for later in 2017. ...At that time I will be able to attend, personally engage in site-specific installation and participate in the surrounding programming for the show. As we are working on another project in September, we have collectively decided to schedule the show to occur around the same time. Thank you to @sniflthreesix and the rest of the wonderful folks at @nicholasprojects for their flexibility and support. See more

01.01.2022 We need your support! Don’t let Nicholas Projects close! This Melbourne gallery which supports artists at all stages of their careers has relied on patron support since its inception in 2015. We continue to cover all fees associated with running the space, with not a single cent falling on our exhibiting artists to cover. With our mentorship program, partnership with RMIT Creative Writing program, The Nicholas Projects Collection and future endeavours we believe we have more ...than succeeded with our goals of providing an unique space and program that supports our exhibiting artists beyond simply the length of their exhibition. We are looking to raise funds to see us through 2017, into 2018 which will include Sydney Contemporary, and a critically engaging program of, but not limited to sound, sculpture and painting. Support the arts! Please read more at the link below, and consider donating. All donations over $2 are tax deductible, any amount helps from $5 to $50 and you can directly contribute to the patronage of the arts and the greater culture and community of arts in Melbourne. Help keep Nicholas Projects alive! https://australianculturalfund.org.au/pr/nicholas-projects/
