24.01.2022 Covid brings some interesting times at the Peninsula, it is a great opportunity to explore our own backyard and discover some new plants we might not have noticed before. Here is Wire-leaf Mistletoe attached to a Coast Wirilda Tree at the Queenscliff foreshore reserve. You never know what a you might find especially given this time of year is when tuber plants sprout out of the ground!

23.01.2022 You may have seen around built up areas bush barriers of vegetation have been burnt off to protect houses from bushfires. It may look alarming at first but fire is all part of the regeneration process many species go through. These tiny red acacias are Sweet Wattles (A. suavoleons) They spread seed and the heat during fires removes their hard coating allowing it to sprout. Another species Grass Trees (Xanthorea australis) triggers flowering when burnt. In the nursery I have started using a smoke water product to help growth using natrual methods, good results so far. It is quite amazing how destructive fire can be, yet at the same time it is a symbol for regeneration and a fresh start.

22.01.2022 Plant stand has been replenished, mainly with more Dianelas and Lomandras. In the next months I’ll be working on adding 125mm pots to the range for those who want a bigger and stronger plant

13.01.2022 Good news, the new tunnel house is coming this week! This will allow me to grow in cooler and damper months. For now here’s some Orchids I found in Pt Roadknight: ptelostylis nutans (Nodding Greenhood) forms large colonies of the same Orchid

11.01.2022 Jiffy Peat Pellet method. A blessing as peat facilitates hard to grow natives. Here we have Sticky daisy-Bush, cuttings, with a success rate of 99%. Currently transferring to pots. Lots of roots, very exciting

09.01.2022 Although not much growth is happening in the nursery I have some exciting new plants to add to the catalogue very soon! My cranberry heath experiment was successful after 3 months I finally have new growth from cuttings on a few plants! This is an extremely hard to grow plant so very happy. Inland pig face is growing from cuttings, I’m excited to introduce this to the inland areas as it’s rare in the peninsula.... Cushion Bush will be on sale soon and noon flower will likely be back in stock with 150 plants.

08.01.2022 Finally after months of trying to organise a tunnel house for the nursery, thanks to my families help I have finally finished it! Today I put in tables and a shade cover. This will now be the heart of the nursery, holding and protecting most of my plants.

07.01.2022 Sadly the 50th annual Angair Wildflower show didn’t go ahead this year so I went out for a few walks looking for native Orchids and Wildflowers around Pt Roadkn...ight and Anglesea. Now that restrictions have eased, if you are a regional resident come down to Anglesea for lunch, help out local tourism, bring your camera and explore, you never know what you might find! For those in Melbourne here is an album of some gems I found over the weekend to share. We are thinking of you guys! hopefully you can get to your nearest nature preserve to find some wildflowers and in the coming weeks restrictions ease off a bit. See more
