20.01.2022 Can you get to this Campfire festival on Tuesday? Amazing line up, in support of Jungala (Tracker Pete) and It's online so you can be at home, I'll be there. Details below: Jungala is an elder and traditional dancer, a real inspirational fella. You may have seen him dancing on stage at one of your favourite music festivals. His spirit reaches far and wide and he's had a positive impact on many. Unfortunately he has suffered the loss of his leg recently and we are throwing this campfire to help raise funds for his prosthetics and rehab. The profits from the show will go directly to him. Donations can be made here: https://www.trybooking.com/book/sessions?eid=629181&bof=1

18.01.2022 #Repost @desireeadaway with @get_repost Desiree Adaway is brilliant, my wonderful mentor @tanyageisler introduced me to Desiree’s work a while back & I can’t wait to dive in more over July at The Adaway Group Rework workshops online. Exploring whiteness in workplaces and business, white dominant culture & building anti-racist skills. The link is in my bio and today is the last day to join so be quick! Words below and image from Desiree (just as pertinent here in Austr...alia) What is settler colonialism? First, settler colonizers come to stay. Settlers intend to permanently occupy and assert sovereignty over indigenous lands. Settler colonialism is a distinct type of colonialism that functions through the replacement of indigenous populations with an invasive settler society. Settler colonialism destroys to replace, It is a structural system, not an event in history. In this sense, settler colonialism does not really ever end. It denies the existence of indigenous peoples and the legitimacy to claims to land It aims to vanish Indigenous peoples and replace them with settlers It’s logic of elimination requires the removal of Indigenous peoples of a territory, by any means necessary (homicide, child abduction, religious conversion, reprogramming (via missions or boarding schools), and myriad forms of assimilation; again settler colonialism destroys to replace (p. 388). It continues to dispossess Indigenous peoples It promotes white supremacy Anyone not Indigenous, living in a settler colonial situation is a settler. Therefore all non-Indigenous people living in what is today called the U.S. are settlers living on stolen land. Settlers do not all benefit equally from settler colonialism. Many people were brought to settler states as slaves, indentured servants, refugees, etc. Race and class largely prefigure which settlers benefit the most from usurped Indigenous homeland Settler colonialism is not just a vicious thing of the past, such as the gold rush, but exists as long as settlers are living on appropriated land and thus exists today. 15.01.2022 #Repost @nationaljusticeproject_au with @get_repost **BREAKING: NJP Executive Director George Newhouse has announced, with regard to Monday's incident where a Police Officer was filmed kicking and pinning down an Indigenous teen, that: "IF charges aren't laid quickly (against the police officer) we are instructed to launch a private prosecution." We will do so alongside the @alsnswact The Government and Police Leadership today failed to stand up for First Nations peoples. But we will stand up. And we will act. 12.01.2022 Re-post @ava thank you. The words (thank you Scott Woods) are from a longer essay written by @scottwoodsrules the essay is in his bio. BLACK LIVES MATTER. Listening, learning and leaning in. Will continue to do my own work on internalized racism and advocate for equity and justice. There is a lot to say and right now is NOT the time to centre my voice or feelings. There are many BIPOC to follow, listen to, support and pay to lear...n from. I won't be posting my own content this week but will share some of those BIPOC voices that are educating, inspiring and leading the way. EDIT TEXT **This image and words replace the black square which I've just deleted. I've decided to delete the square as the black squares are stopping important information getting to the top of the feed with the hashtag BLACK LIVES MATTER, and that tag is needed right now which is getting lost in a sea of black squares, even though my post didn't originally have that tag it still feels like this post is more useful and educational and I don't want the black squares, unfortunately, harming more than helping or getting in the way of vital information and education getting out. #blackouttuesday #listeningandlearnng #whatimpactisthishaving #imperfectaction See more

07.01.2022 #Repost @djirravic with @get_repost Amazing to see the marches in Australia today This work is ongoing. Djirra have been doing this work since 2002. An Aboriginal community controlled organisation offering programs and practical support to all Aboriginal women & particularly Aboriginal people who are or have experienced family violence. Check out their website www.djirra.org.au ... ............................. Djirra’s words below For many people in Australia, the power and visibility of #BlackLivesMatter as an international human rights movement means they are navigating a new conversation, but this is nothing new for us. For over 17 years Djirra has been speaking up about the loss of Black Lives in Australia. We have been speaking up about things that are happening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia every day that are not seen by mainstream media. Our children are still being taken. Our lives are still being threatened and taken by police. Our women are 34 times more likely to be victims of family violence compared to other women. Our people are still being imprisoned and dying in custody. Aboriginal women are now the fastest growing prison population in the country. We have ten years less life expectancy. We are living with the toll of intergenerational trauma. Lives are being lost and our people are hurting. Aboriginal Community Controlled organisations like Djirra must be funded to create self-determined change. If we are properly resourced and invested in we will make a difference. Thank you for showing up for Aboriginal Australians. With unrelenting effort by us all, we will dismantle systemic and institutionalised racism. It’s time to stand together against the structures that oppress us and kill us at disproportionate rates. Australian has so much more work to do. All lives won’t matter until #BlackLivesMatter. Let’s stand together and do the work. You can support Djirra via givenow.com.au/fvpls. 06.01.2022 It's been a while! Right now I"m in the Zone... Happy Face, loving this work! Recording lessons for my Voice Confidence group program just started, fully booked the next one will be either Nov this year or Jan 2021 It all starts with listening and I've been doing a lot of listening in to my own beliefs and to the powerful voices rising right now. This work is taking me back to some of my early influences. I just watched a Spike Lee interview, remembered first being blown away by the brilliant 'Do The Right Thing' I need to watch that again... with the election in the US coming up, still soooo relevant. Here's to doing the right thing! #voiceconfidence #huntervalley #listening #voiceofchange #voice #presence #truth #power #trust #selfbelief #collectivepower
