23.01.2022 Say hello to natto. This is a traditional Japanese breakfast food of fermented soybeans and possibly the reason Japanese are so healthy. Natto is gold-dust for the hard-to-get vitamin K2 which is key to getting the calcium you eat to get to the right places in your body (i.e. bones, not arteries). 21.01.2022 Thank you to my wonderful Aunt for this amazing Christmas present. A frozen slow cooked lamb shoulder to pull out in a time of need. (I am amazed it took me this long to use!). We ate it this week and it was delicious. If cooking during the week is a challenge slow cook a few lamb roasts over the weekend and pop them in the freezer. Too easy. 20.01.2022 I’m very excited to say I have finally released my first mini Man Pack - a short sharp 10 day programme for men in their 40s who are starting to get a bit of a ‘Man Belly’ or who want to do something to improve their overall health. This first programme is to a small group of guinea pig friends who are doing a trial run for me... but that didn't make the launch any easier. It's really nerve racking doing stuff like this! 17.01.2022 Are you getting enough vitamin K2? I can probably answer this question for you. No. There are two types of vitamin K: one is easy enough to get if you eat enough vegetables; the other is extraordinarily difficult. There are lots of good studies implicating vitamin K2 deficiency things like heart disease and osteoporosis. Put simply, you need it to help calcium get to the right places (bones) and keep it away from the wrong places (arteries). 16.01.2022 A fantastic unintended science experiment in our house this morning. We always wash water bottles or new things in the kitchen before using them. The instructions say to and we know there are lots of health disrupting chemicals in the environment. The experiment: we put the water bottles in the dishwasher not realising that the paper instructions were inside. When we took them out of the dishwasher the paper wasn't wet. Lesson learnt is that you have to clean and rinse water bottles by hand if you want to truly get rid of any factory chemicals. #bpa #waterbottles #h2o #water #chemicals #health

16.01.2022 Have you heard of konjac? I feel like I have been missing out on something as I hadn't heard of it until a month ago. These are great low carb noodle replacements if you need noodles. But... theres always a but.... in my honest opinion they are so tasteless and bland that I would skip them. These are probably best added to a stir fry if you are really missing having noodles or carbs. P.S. my kids usually devour anything that looks remotely like pasta or spaghetti were not at all keem to eat these noodles. #konjac #noodles #lowcarb #lchf

08.01.2022 If you haven't tried persimmon then you should. Eating a range of fruits and vegetables with lots of different colours is really important to your gut microbiome... but it is so easy to get caught in a rut and eat the same things week in week out. Persimmon is really really tasty but you have to get the timing right, otherwise it is "mouth puckeringly tart" says an article in the Guardian. If you are looking for something that is easy and healthy and doesn't take any brain power or effort then this is the answer. You'll find these Brazilian cheese bread balls in the freezer at @HarrisFarmMarkets by @Cristianaandco. I'll post a bit more on these soon, so stay tuned. They come at a bit of a price, but knowing how good they taste and that everything is top quality (e.g. milk, not milk powder) ...they are a winner in our house for nights where I can't cook everything from scratch. 03.01.2022 I was loving using this oil for making homemade mayonnaise and then realised it is made from a blend of refined olive oil and extra virgin olive oil. This brand has a fantastic extra virgin olive oil, but it turns out the light version isn't as good. I know I always say this but remember to read the labels.
