24.01.2022 Printing! It's been a busy day putting the Canon Pro1000 through its paces. Then mounting on mat boards and finishing them off in a frame and a portrait box, ready for delivery. I'm so in love with the feeling of seeing my work come out of the printer. 23.01.2022 Oh, hi! I'm Nicky. I started this business 10 years ago when my kids were babies. I was working as a police prosecutor at the time, but I had always had that creative bug and the dream to have my own business. Dogs and horses were my focus back then and over the years, as I learnt more about the photography business and myself, things evolved into what it is today. I've got two great kids who are kind hearted, athletic and smart and a dog who keeps us laughing with his cani...ne/human antics. My other great love is my V8. Since before I started primary school (back in the 70's) I've chosen cars over dolls. To relax in my time off I get immersed in a good crime movie or series. 21.01.2022 #superpowers .... making dishes look sexy! I bet you have never seen dishes look so good! My kitchen does not have a dish washer. While I'm carefully washing my dishes by hand, I do a lot of thinking. I wash a lot of dishes. Many dishes = lots of thinking. During this morning's episode I came up with this bright idea to take a pic of said dishes. Cue the strobes, light stands, gels and you get this! The moral of the story? 06.01.2022 Yesterday was one of the best experiences at Living Legends. Dr Shannon Lee was just amazing with the the kids, showing them how to feel for sharp teeth on the famous Apache Cat. All the horses that came up to the gate for pats and smooches were so gentle and sweet. 03.01.2022 It's now February 2019 and I have my words. After seeing a few friends declaring what their word for the year was, by mid January I was feeling bad as I didn't have "my" word. But I kept seeing and feeling 2 words. JOY and CONSISTENCY ... The more I mulled them over in my head, the more I loved them. Consistency leads to joy. Joy leads to consistency. The more consistent I can be in my work, my marketing, my home life, the more joy I get. The more joy I have in these things leads to more consistent work, clients and routines. 02.01.2022 I'll be sitting there thinking exactly this, possibly with an expletive inserted. Every. Single. Day. "WTF am I going to post today?" I didn't have a social media plan. I had thousands of photos I could share but because I didn't have a social media strategy, I'd just sit there, not knowing what to post. And then I'd get on with something else. ... The next day, same thing. Unless I had a shoot I could share, I had posting paralysis. Rinse and repeat. It's funny how, when you do manage to post something and you get all the likes and comments and you can see your reach, you get motivated to post more. And you keep going. For days, maybe even a week and if you're real lucky, a month. And then your posting bucket is empty. All that consistency ends up going back to being not so consistent. And consistency is key. Show up every single day. Build trust, let the followers get to know the people behind the business name. So, 2019 is all about the art of consistency. And joy! (But you'll have to wait for a post for more on that! ) I'm actually putting in the time to plan and execute the hell out of showing up consistently. How? By working out how I can show the heart and soul of my business. Creating images that tell my story. Curating those images into a gallery I can have access to from my phone. And then posting. Every. 01.01.2022 Avalon Castle, in Cockatoo, has the most diverse photographic backdrops. Antique, medieval, gardens, stone. This is Bec, shot in a stairwell, lit by ambient light. I can't help seeing a bit of Caravaggio-ness about it. This was one extremely warm day in January and we were melting. But Bec is oozing coolness.
