24.01.2022 We’ve all had it. The anxiety of opening an envelope, and finding instead of the large cheque you wished for, you found a large bill.... and it had to be paid yesterday. That’s the same feeling I think we all get when it’s rates time. And even though you can call up and work out a plan with council, that plan attracts interest. Well I’d like to make rates time a little less stressful and propose more flexible plans that follow individual households salary cycles. So whether you get paid weekly, fortnightly or monthly, you will be able to set up a plan that suits your circumstances and doesn’t penalise you. What do you think? Would that ease the anxiety of rates time?
23.01.2022 MEET THE CANDIDATE Nicola Lane East Ward Moorabool Shire ... I have been a core member of the Bacchus Marsh Community Coalition since inception, working with the team in the background in our fight to stop the toxic soil coming to Bacchus Marsh. When I heard about the proposal to run overhead powerlines through our shire, it was another major blow to our region, and another huge fight. Not only would they be an eyesore, they will negatively impact landowners and pose a bushfire risk. Western Victorian Transmission Network Project need to do the responsible thing. These lines CAN go underground and they SHOULD go underground.
23.01.2022 Congratulations Mayor Tom Sullivan and Deputy Mayor Rod James
16.01.2022 Time to bring back visual arts to the Marsh. It’s been too long, they need a permanent home.
15.01.2022 Many will be pleased to hear this news.
15.01.2022 Candidate questionnaires and statements are up on the VEC website. Have a read through to see who exactly is running. https://www.vec.vic.gov.au//moorabool-shire-co/nominations
15.01.2022 The real question is, where do they intend to direct this $750 million? That’s a lot of money, money that could go towards building a fit for purpose facility in an area that poses no risk to communities, waterways, food bowls, protected wildlife. What are your thoughts? https://mooraboolonline.com.au//state-govt-may-hand-over/
15.01.2022 Let’s pretend the toxic soil announcement never happened shall we Steve. On the same day we discover (not from you I might add) that the Bacchus Marsh site has been given the green light to take the soil, you make an announcement to divert your electorates attention to something they have been begging for, for years. The problem is Steve, there are a few flaws, one major one being that, of the $75 million you say has been budgeted, $45 million of that is not due to be payabl...e until after the next election. Labor are using this carrot to try to win the next election on the hope we will have all forgotten how you did NOTHING to stop the soil coming here. That $45 million, will likely have to be found by the Liberal government when they take over in 2022. You are making promises on someone else’s behalf, in the hope you and Michaela will retain your seats. And if by some miracle you do keep your seat, you will no doubt then say there is not enough money in the budget for the $45 million and blame COVID-19. You must think us stupid. See more
14.01.2022 I want to talk about my experience and how it is relevant to council.... The first half of my work life was in the UK music industry, both as a small business owner and an artist; and the second half being in predominantly accounting roles, following a return to uni here in Melbourne at age 30, to gain my accounting qualifications. Now how on earth will these polar opposite career paths have any benefit to council I hear you say. Well more than you would think. You see, I kn...ow my way around a budget, I know how critical it is to factor in a contingency (especially in times like these). However, council isn’t just about building permits, expenditure and waste management. It’s also about meeting the social needs of ratepayers by providing recreational amenities and supporting and expanding on inclusive programs in collaboration with community groups. It’s about finding the right people in the community, with the talent and experience to establish new services, by recognising the gaps and then giving them the resources to do it. It requires a creative mind to envisage, along with the analytical mind to know if it’s feasible. So that is where I see myself fitting in. Now, I could grandstand and make promises (that are meaningless without the vote of three others) of shiny new facilities and no rate rises, but that would be unrealistic and irresponsible. Of course, I’d love to provide both of those, but I can’t promise them, no one councillor can. The only way to deliver those two, are to either scale back on basic maintenance and expenditure (which nobody wants), or to lobby state government to provide the shortfall needed to freeze rates and throw in some extra to deliver the shiny stuff. Much of the rest can be provided by being creative with what we do have (like I mentioned earlier about working with local groups to expand on their existing programs). In a nutshell, I’m an ideas person. I won’t give you a perfectly delivered politically rehearsed speech, nor will I give you promises I am unable to keep. What I will give you, are new ideas that are achievable and sustainable, fresh solutions to old stagnant issues. I will always look for ways to make life a little easier for ratepayers. Every council needs a healthy variety of skills and dedicated people who are willing to work together. So when you go to mark your votes in the next few weeks, really think about who will compliment who. See more
14.01.2022 For once, I am actually at a loss for words. The contempt our community is being treated with is nothing short of astonishing. Words fail me.
12.01.2022 Here’s my campaign statement which will appear on the ballot papers. Harder than you think keeping it to no more than 300 words.
11.01.2022 Many to choose from, let’s hope residents do their homework and make informed choices when those papers hit the mailboxes. Good luck everyone!
06.01.2022 Let’s hope Stuart Grimley can get some answers as to how Richard Wynne came to this ridiculous decision.
05.01.2022 Have you got this locked into your calendar? If you’re concerned about the proposed overhead powerlines, put aside an hour of your time this Wednesday and be part of the conversation. On 4 August 2020, the Victorian Minister for Planning, Richard Wynne, declared that an Environmental Effects Statement (EES) is required for AusNet Services’ Western Victorian Transmission Network Project. This community session will provide an overview on the EES assessment process and how memb...ers of the public can participate in the process. Moorabool Shire Council is delighted to welcome Jack Krohn, Senior Impact Assessor at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, to speak with the community. Wednesday 23 September 20206pm- 7pmClick here to join the online community session Members of the public are encouraged to submit questions prior to each session via this online form. There will also some limited opportunity for live Q&A with the presenter during the session. https://moorabool.engagementhub.com.au//community-session-
