24.01.2022 Anyone else feeling like this?

23.01.2022 As a new parent, you probably have so many unanswered questions. You arent expected to know the answers, this is all so new & there is much to learn. It is best to ask your questions, no matter how small they may seem. Small things can become larger issues if left unresolved. Seek support from trusted channels, there is a lot of conflicting information out there. You are not alone & there are plenty of wonderful resources available. Find a Lactation Consultant via LCANZ, con...tact The National Breastfeeding Helpline (1800 686 268) & Live Chat, Possums for parents, your local maternal health nurse and GPs knowledgeable about babies and parenthood are all wonderful resources. Please, reach out if you need some help, your village is waiting. . . . #ittakesavillage #australianbreastfeedingassociation #mum2mum #mum2be #mum2020 #mummy #pregnant #breastfeeding #possumsonline #covid19 #stayathome #stayathomemom #stayathomemomlife #babies #baby #newmum #mumlife #momlife #mums #nicolebandolc @possumsonline @possumsformothersandbabies See more

23.01.2022 Thanks to Spilt Milk Psychology for sharing this incredibly important information.

22.01.2022 Many women express a strong desire to breastfeed, however feel anxious and overwhelmed with the amount of information available. Many women have breastfed with older children and experienced challenging situations. We can talk through this and understand those challenges in order to prevent them from recurring. I provide prenatal breastfeeding counselling to give parents timely, practical and evidence-based information so they feel ready for breastfeeding to begin.

21.01.2022 Breastmilk; a dynamic superfood. It contains hundreds of thousands of molecules that protect against infection and inflammation, contributes to immunity, organ development & healthy gut bacteria. It also: o Differs between sons & daughters o Varies between feeds o Varies in fat content o Is different through breastfeeding stages... o Is different for premature and term babies See more

21.01.2022 What is normal when it comes to your baby's poo?

21.01.2022 It is normal for a new mum to spend much of her day breastfeeding. Each feed (including a nappy change), may take up to 1.5 hours. The time alone does not tell us how much milk the baby is removing. To help baby get enough milk, allow baby to feed until she comes off by herself. Timing feeds or trying to stick to a feeding routine can lead to low supply and also an unsettled baby, who may not be receiving the high fat milk found in an emptier breast. Watch your baby for feedi...ng signs: strong jaw movement, wriggling ears, tiny little swallowing sounds, well rounded cheeks & a deep mouthful of the nipple, areola and breast tissue. If you are experiencing pain, or baby is very sleepy, not sucking for long or you have loads of questions, these are signs to reach out for early support. As baby grows larger and more efficient, breastfeeding time will reduce. How much varies between each mum and baby pair. See more

20.01.2022 The answer is no. Pain is your body's way of asking you to listen. When a baby is well attached, it is a pain free, comfortable & a pleasurable experience. Some initial stinging is normal, this usually subsides within 30 seconds of the feed beginning. If you are experiencing pain, it may be a sign that baby is not attached to the breast deeply enough. This can cause cracked & bleeding nipples & impact how much milk baby is receiving. Seeking help quickly will help you to resolve the pain and feed your baby with confidence. Do you need a home visit, Telehealth or clinic appointment? Please reach out. http://www.nicolebando.com/contact.html

15.01.2022 Inconsistent advice and lack of early support are 2 reasons that a mother may prematurely wean breastfeeding. Research shows education during pregnancy can improve breastfeeding outcomes. After baby, seek support early from trusted voices to cut through the confusion and overcome feeding challenges. . . #breastfeeding #healthprofessional #healthprofessionals #dietitian #lactationconsultant #babyfeeding #mixedfeeding #feedyourbaby #mumlife #newbaby #melbournebaby #evidencebased #feedingsupport #ittakesavillage #melbournelife #melbournemums #melbournemama #newmumsmelbourne

13.01.2022 Avoid going down the Google rabbit hole and stick with trusted sources of consistent advice. My top 3 trusted baby feeding websites are: The Australian Breastfeeding Association: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/ Possums for parents with babies: https://possumsonline.com/ KellyMom: https://kellymom.com/... 13.01.2022 Many parents are so busy they forget to eat, which only compounds feelings of tiredness and can lead to snacking on less healthy foods later in the day. It is so important to prioritise your own self care so you can look after those you love. Download my easy meal and snack list for new parents so you can stock up your pantry. Did you know that breastfeeding increases a mum's energy and nutrient needs? Are you eating enough?

12.01.2022 There is a myth that all newborn babies sleep for 16 hours per day, causing many parents to worry excessively when their bub's sleep does not match this magic number. Did you know that the normal range of newborn sleep is actually anywhere from 9 to 16 hours? So if you have a more wakeful baby, perhaps his or her sleep budget is simply less than others. There are many suggested routines out there and whilst this may work for some families, following a baby's cues for feeding, sleep and settling supports breastfeeding and can help a parent to trust their mummy or daddy instincts, as well as develop confidence as a parent. Reach out for support if you need it, it takes time to learn about your little one.

10.01.2022 A breastfeeding mum may need up to 2000kJ extra per day for the first 6 months. This is equivalent to an additional wholegrain bread roll with cheese, avocado & salad & a glass of milk per day. Eating regularly across the food groups helps a new mum regulate mood, energy and coping. Restrictive dieting after baby can reduce supply and affect mood and isn't recommended. 05.01.2022 Life in the time of COVID-19 is providing new challenges for parents, such as increased social isolation and reduced support structures. It is very normal to feel worried or anxious. 04.01.2022 Lucky I have two little superheroes in training here!! Happy Monday!

03.01.2022 This came up this morning as a memory from a post we did six years ago to the day on our Facebook page. Never have messages like this been more important. #blacklivesmatter

01.01.2022 It is natural to feel worried about accessing breastfeeding services during this time. Please be assured that safe access to services remains available. If early breastfeeding problems or concerns are not addressed, they can reach a crisis point. It is best to seek safe intervention, early. I am currently practising in the following way via NEST Family Clinic and MCC: Reception staff are screening for COVID-19 at time of booking Practising hand hygiene and maintaining distanc...e Wearing a mask for the duration of the consult and requesting that you do the same Asking permission to examine mum and baby (whilst wearing mask and gloves) Wiping down all equipment used with alcohol wipes before and after the visit Seeing mums and babies in clinic or at home if preferred and safe to do so Offering Telehealth. Working with other medical professionals, including GP's, paediatricians, physiotherapy to ensure that you remain safe and are obtaining the care you need Please be in touch should you need feeding guidance.
