18.01.2022 So often I see women in their 40’s and 50’s restricting their food, going low carb, no carb, keto , intermittent fasting etc and then wondering why their hormones have gone crazy and they are putting on weight, especially around the tummy. My first port of call with my one on one clients is mindset, what limiting beliefs have you been telling yourself? You know, ‘I can never lose weight’ ‘I just look at carbs and I gain weight’ ‘I’m just big boned’ ‘it’s too hard’ ‘menopause... sucks’ and so on. These thoughts shape our thinking and the mind works in ways to confirm our evidence-lacking beliefs. In other words, what you look for you find. Get your mindset working for you instead of against you and magical things happen. Next thing I look at with my clients is their diet, what they are missing out on and if there’s any gaps that need filling. Most of the time there are big gaps that need patching. You see when you restrict food it generally leads to massive cravings and then over indulging. This is where the weight gain happens. It also affects blood sugar levels and this is a big problem for women with declining or fluctuating estrogen levels. Once I have your diet more balanced results come pretty much straight away then I look at other big factors like stress, sleep (or lack of), lifestyle and the type of exercise being done. Is it beneficial or doing more damage than good? 17.01.2022 I can’t believe I forgot my number 1 goal last week. For many years I’ve suffered from IBS type symptoms which can really dictate my life sometimes. So much so I have BF clothes and AF clothes and heaven forbid I’m out for the whole day. ... BF are my before food clothes and AF well, after food. My stomach can bloat so severely that I can look and feel 6 months pregnant. It’s uncomfortable and sometimes it affects my sleep. Swipe left to see my AF tummy. So 2021 will be about getting my digestive issues sorted, especially when it’s what I do for a living. I’ve had my Hormonal profile assessed so I know where I’m am. 13.01.2022 Let’s talk about goal setting and a few places were we can go wrong. Firstly, you need to get really clear on why the goal is important to you. What is it that you really want, why do you really want it, how will your life be different when you have that goal, how will you know you have achieved it. What’s going to get on the way? If you aren’t emotionally invested in the outcome it probably won’t happen. ... Secondly, a goal is the outcome, but it’s the behaviours that need to change in order to achieve the outcome. Start with small behaviour changes and build on them. Don’t try to change too many things at once or you’ll get overwhelmed. Finally, you need a goal to strive for after you’ve achieved your first goal. So many get to where they want to go but have nothing to move onto so slowly old habits sink back in and you end up back where you started. I see this a lot with fitness challenges, people working toward the end of that 6, 8 or 12 weeks and once that is over there’s no new goal to strive for.
