25.01.2022 One of the first things I often teach new students when they come to my class is how to breathe in a pose. A lot of the time students are taught to belly breathe. This can be a helpful breathing practice to help relax and calm the nervous system but I have been taught and have a felt sense experience in my own practice that it is not always the best approach during asana. Here is a great video with one of my teachers explaining why.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tzj8JOtEpuA

24.01.2022 Have you wanted to try yoga but you are worried that you may not fit in? You might not be good enough, strong enough or flexible enough? . For me Yoga is so much more about breathing, feeling and connecting and less about trying to accomplish difficult poses. . Its your time on the mat where you can truly connect to your authentic self, without judgement, comparisons or perfectionism. Its your time to cultivate healing, peace and joy.... I invite you to join me for Term 2 yoga starting Monday 29 April. You will be well supported in my small group size, friendly and inclusive classes. Full details and bookings can be made at www.nicolegraceyoga.com/group-class/ I look forward to seeing you on the mat.

18.01.2022 It wasn’t until I completed a year long 500 hour training at The Yoga Institute where I was able to delve deeper into the true meaning of yoga that I understood the importance of a personalised and individualised yoga practice. Not all yoga is good for every body. Check out this video that was filmed in the space where I spent all those hours of learning, experiencing, growing and evolving.... If you would like to work with me to design your very own personal yoga practice you can find more information here www.nicolegraceyoga.com/personal-practice/design/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2UKfOOfrTnw&feature=share

16.01.2022 The simple act of placing my hands on my chest, over my heart and feeling my breath effortlessly rise and fall has such a powerful effect on cultivating a sense of being grounded, completely present and deeply connected to my true self. It always brings me home. . . .

13.01.2022 In my classes not only will you practice asana (physical postures), you will also learn and experience Pranayama Techniques (breathwork). Once you learn these techniques in class, you can then practice them at home in your daily life to to support your health and wellbeing. Different pranayama techniques will have a different effect on the body and mind. Last week I taught my students a technique known as Pratiloma Ujjayi Pranayama. It has a wonderful calming, balancing and... centering effect on your body and mind. Here is a video of my teacher, Michael De Manincor, demonstrating the technique. If you would like to learn these techniques in a safe, supportive environment please join me for Term 2, starting Monday 29 April. Book Now at www.nicolegraceyoga.com/group-class/

10.01.2022 A great article explaining extreme ranges of movement in yoga are not always benefiting your body. Every yoga pose requires a delicate balance of strength and flexibility. When students first start coming to my classes I see a lot of these common habitual patterns of movement as discussed in this article. Over time and with my guidance these same students begin to cultivate a strong sense of body awareness and they begin to change these unhealthy movement patterns and replace... them with movements that actually benefit their bodies. Sometimes just by doing less you gain so much more!!

10.01.2022 Are you in need of some stress relief? Would you like some time in your week to slow down, and breathe? You will be well supported within my small size classes and friendly and inclusive environment. 09.01.2022 Highly recommend watching this Ted Talk by psychologist Shawn Achor explaining how happiness fuels success, not the other way around. https://youtu.be/fLJsdqxnZb0

09.01.2022 Human evolution has been hijacked by overthinking, but Neuroscientist Dr. Kaushik Ram reminds us what happens when we make a conscious effort to connect with our hearts. This is something I encourage myself and my students to practice on the mat. Less thinking and more feeling.

08.01.2022 Lots to tell you about! For all bookings go to www.nicolegraceyoga.com

07.01.2022 BEGIN WHERE YOU ARE AT. I cant tell you how many times someone has said to me, I will start coming to your yoga classes when I have lost some weight, or when I have completely healed from an injury, or when I am fitter or stronger...... I get it!! In this modern world of Insta Yoga, its understandable that yoga is perceived to be only for the young, fit and supple. ... I am here to tell you, the heart of an authentic yoga practice is actually about beginning from where you are at and adapting the practice to suit your needs, your body and your starting point. If you are looking for a slower, more mindful, safe and sustainable practice that promotes healing and wellness as opposed to a fancy playlist and complicated choreography, I invite you to join me for Term 2, starting 29 April. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or would like further reassurance. Bookings are now open. 05.01.2022 With such a spectacular sunny winters day here in Sydney today, we spent some time in class practicing Surya Namaskar which means salutations to the sun. Its a series of 12 postures that are synchronised with the breath and practiced with an intention to express gratitude to the sun and to the new day. ... 05.01.2022 A great article on the importance of modifying your practice to suit your needs, body and stage of life. I know for me as I approach my fifties next year I am far more interested in finding stability in my body both physically and mentally as opposed to extreme ranges of movement and flexibility. Who really cares if you can lift your foot on top of your head? I certainly dont.

02.01.2022 "To ensure that our practice is relevant to us, we must ensure that we stay mindful of the goal. Not only should the practice feel good, it must also lead us toward a more balanced and positive state of body and mind, one of lightness and clarity. Moving the body reduces heaviness and dullness, comfortably long and smooth breathing reduces the restlessness in the body and mind." https://www.svastha.net/yoga-should-lead-to-positive-chang/
