24.01.2022 * On the Road to Mozambique * . Since printing and hanging my Hwange sable from my last post, Africa has been stuck in my mind. I guess with the borders closed, it's got us all daydreaming about trips we've loved, and ones we hope to come. Have you ever taken a road trip from Zimbabwe to Mozambique? We did, and it's burnt in my memory forever. Pot holes, pineapples, road blocks, toilet stops. Cashew nuts, boababs, bicycles, thatch huts. This could be the start of a new series of work.

24.01.2022 Missed seeing Rone's Burnham Beeches installation in the Dandenong Ranges, so was not going to miss seeing his works at Geelong Gallery. I remember his much smaller stencil graffiti art in Fitzroy, which has evolved into building size portraits and installations. Always in awe of artists who paint with such precision at that scale. Make sure you get there. On show until May 16.

10.01.2022 I'm no photographer, but for anyone who's been lucky enough to visit Africa, we all know we're going to give it our best crack - simply because everything that surrounds you is so compelling. I was in Zimbabwe a few years ago visiting friends, and took a side trip to Davidson's Camp in Hwange National Park. On our last night, as the sun was coming down, and as we toasted to 5 days that completely blew our minds, we heard the commotion of an elephant herd fleeing, with pro...tective instinct over their young. This photo was taken from the vantage point up on the hill as we scurried to pack our bubbles and nibbles back into the jeep, before hurtling down through the dust storm the elephant had created in their wake to try to get closer to the action. A pack of Painted Dog were bounding through the grasses toward a lonely and vulnerable sable at the water's edge. It was one of those 'I want to look but can't look' terrifying scenes where the anticipation of what might happen to this majestic creature had my eyes glued but my heart sinking. To my relief, he stood his ground, putting on quite a show and the pack reluctantly retreated after realising the futility of their efforts. In the distance, a disappointed hyena lay in the grass having lost the meal he hoped to have swooped in on, and all the while a lazy hippo didn't even lift his gaze as if it were all boring him to tears. An absolute feast for the eyes and the icing on the cake to what was already the most memorable experience. Douglas our incredible guide said we had just been lucky enough to experience a rare 'National Geographic moment'. The shots following are a few of the action, along with the disappointed hyena up close in the aftermath. The sable and dogs at the end were taken on another day. I love now having this on my wall. I love that light of day, the mood and the memory. Thanks to @imagescience for your help with choosing the paper and for printing it for me.

They're deconstructing their pizzas so you can make them at home with your family. After all, family connection around the dinner table is what they're all about. Sharing food, making memories, smiling faces. So of course It was a no brainer to drive from home in Richmond to their Yarraville... store to show my support in these difficult hospitality times to pick two kits .... and voila... check out how delicious these turned out!
