25.01.2022 It's not just in hair and beauty - Australians in most workplaces don't want to speak up. In fact, data from the University of South Australia and SafeWork Aust...ralia suggests that half of us will experience bullying at work, but most of us won't admit to anyone that it's happening. That's why we're on a mission to #demandrespect. It's time to break the cycle of bullying and unhealthy salon culture, to stand up as an industry and commit to making a change. If you're being bullied at work, or you see it happening to a workmate and you don't know what to do, HSA can help! We work with our members to give them the tools to identify bullying in the workplace, call it out, and take action. Send us a PM for more info, or get started here https://loom.ly/g1Mtk4o

25.01.2022 Sometimes life gets really hard, and we need some time to sort ourselves out. When it comes to taking leave for personal or health reasons, you have HEAPS of pr...otections under the Hair and Beauty Award and the NES. We hear a lot from our members and supporters who were told they couldn't take leave in a certain situation, and we thought it's time to get the facts right. Sick leave doesn't just include the days you're too ill to come into work. If you need to go to a specialist, counsellor, or another health service, and you can't get an appointment outside of work hours, you have the right to go! This also includes mental health support. Plus, ALL permanent and casual workers also have the right to take 5 days of unpaid domestic violence leave every 12 months. This is for things like court hearings, going to the police, or relocating if you're in a difficult living situation. If your employer isn't letting you take the time you need to keep yourself safe and healthy, reach out to us ASAP. At HSA, our expert legal team can help negotiate with your employer, so you're getting your rightful leave entitlements. Get started here: https://loom.ly/oPGxiEw or send us a PM if you need more info on how we can help.

22.01.2022 Being an ambassador for HSA allows me to support an industry I’m passionate about, an industry that for too long has not had a voice. Until now hairdressers have worked silently and tirelessly without being heard, now coming together as a collective we are able to share our stories, experiences and love of people with others. We are able to express our concerns about what does and does not work, get support when needed without feeling like we’re alone. HSA and it’s ambassadors are supporting each other to make true change.

22.01.2022 We are live and ready to chat COVID-19, hair and beauty, and what HSA has planned for 2020. Be sure to chuck your questions below!!!

20.01.2022 FACT: If you are eligible for JobKeeper (permanent worker, or 12+ months as casual) and your employer has applied for the wage subsidy, then your MUST be paid y...our full amount. We've heard from a few hair stylists who were told they were ineligible, or who weren't receiving the payment, even though their workmates were. If this is happening to you, then you must speak up! No one should be playing favourites or punishing their staff by withholding money you're rightly owed. Don't forget, JobKeeper has been extended until March 2021 - and the eligibility criteria has been reduced, meaning you only have to show a 30% decline in the PREVIOUS QUARTER to be eligible for subsidies. If you've got any questions about JobKeeper, like how much you should be earning, your leave entitlements, or your rights at work in general, hit us up!! Send us a PM or drop us a line on our website: https://loom.ly/hYbWfh0

17.01.2022 Self care is a priority in any industry, hairdressers are incredible at being with and supporting their clients, making themselves as important should also be a priority. Get to know and listen to your body, it speaks volumes

17.01.2022 HSA recently asked over 150 apprentices about the pay, conditions, entitlements and the culture in their salon. We rated all those apprenticeships, from to ... based on their workplace rights. The results... well, they speak for themselves. Only 2 apprenticeships were rated 5 stars, which meant those apprentices received their full entitlements under the Hair and Beauty Award. We need to do better - and that is why we started HSA! We think ALL apprentices deserve a 5-star apprenticeship, so you get the best start possible in your career. If you need help at work, we've got your back. Get started here https://loom.ly/PhcyBg0

15.01.2022 Melbourne might be reopening at midnight tonight, but for many businesses, inconsistent restrictions imposed by the Victorian Government could keep them closed.... It’s the case for beauty salons, beauty therapy, and related personal care services. They’ve been told their customers must wear masks at all time during their appointment but people in a pub can remove their mask to drink, and people in a hairdresser can remove their mask for a cup of coffee. Imagine giving a lip wax, or a facial all with a mask in the way? This isn’t a criticism of rules for other industries it’s great that our pubs and hairdressers are opening up but it is a plea for fairness and consistency in the rules. More than many other industries, beauty is owned by women, run by women and the vast bulk of clients being women. They aren’t a unionised workforce, they don’t belong to a powerful lobby group. Instead, they are small business entrepreneurs who take a lot of financial risks to start up and stay open, and they deserve our support. I spoke with beauty salon owner April Brodie last night with these restrictions as they stand, her salon can only offer 20% of its services. https://fb.watch/1nioQUj0u8/ If these businesses are unable to reopen to their full capacity they may not survive. These inconsistent and unfair rules must be fixed immediately. #SaveVicSkinClinics

We had so many yaaas moments in Bec...'s speech it was hard to pick just one to share! We need the backing of the industry to make this happen, so if you want to see long service leave in your state, sign the petition today! https://loom.ly/f1npA7M If you're keen to hear more, you can watch Bec's speech as part of the day's precedings right here: http://aod.parliament.act.gov.au/A86910

07.01.2022 What makes portable long service leave different from other leave entitlements is you can take it with you, wherever you go in the industry. Other industries,... like cleaning and construction, have a portable scheme in place and it makes a huge difference in those workers' lives. That's why we think it's time hair stylists were added to the list. We know it's a tough time with COVID-19, but introducing and passing legislation is a L O N G process. The reality is, we won't see this in place for a while so it's good to get a head-start now! We've made the first steps in the ACT, but we've got big ambitions. HSA wants to take our campaign nationwide... but where should we go next? Do you want to see portable long service leave in your state? Let us know and sign the petition today! https://loom.ly/f1npA7M

07.01.2022 The Government estimates that 140,000 apprentices across Australia have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. Their plan to subsidise 50% of an apprentice's wages ...for the first 12 months will apparently create 100,000 new apprenticeships, but it doesn't do anything for apprentices who have lost their jobs, or who are working right now. The current funding model rewards bad behaviour, and leaves those employers who are trying to do the right thing high and dry. That's why HSA believes that the new subsidy should be extended to fund ALL apprentices, not just new first-years, to look after the young apprentices who are in work, and the employers who investing their own time and money into the next generation of hair stylists. Research shows that government money invested in apprenticeships easily pays for itself with more qualified, professional tradespeople earning money and paying taxes into the Australian economy. So let's support apprentices AND salon owners and invest in the future of our industry. Will you join our campaign? Show your support, and sign the petition here! https://loom.ly/Tqq6OQY
