24.01.2022 While restrictions may have started to ease, the economic challenge from the pandemic and the restrictions we needed to put in place remains. That includes our ...construction industry, where the pipeline of new projects has slowed dramatically, putting local jobs at risk in the coming months. If we take action, we can help to mitigate or avoid the potential damage. But we need your help. If you have been thinking about building - now is the time to get it underway and support local jobs. To help get new homes under construction, we're introducing $20,000 Building Bonus grants for any Western Australia to build a new house or purchase a property in a single-tier development already under construction. The grants will be available until the end of the year, and will not be means tested and have no cap on property value. They will be on top of the Federal Government's HomeBuilder Grants, as well as WA’s First Home Owner Grants and first home buyer duty concession, meaning someone who qualifies for all four could access up to $69,440 in Government assistance to help build their first home. Simply put, these grants are about getting as many new projects off the ground as possible, and keeping as many WA jobs intact as we can. We're also making some changes to the 75% stamp duty rebate we introduced for new multi-tier developments last year. The rebate, which is capped at $25,000, will now also apply to purchases in multi-tiered developments already under construction, in addition to pre-construction contracts.

19.01.2022 #BREAKING: The State Government will introduce new legislation to remove the requirement for residents to get planning approval to build a deck, patio, shed or ...pergola in their backyard. STORY | https://ab.co/2AKZ2Ut. "A household who wants to put up a shed or a patio or some shade sails, to have to get planning approval from the local council is expensive and unnecessary," Premier Mark McGowan said. The Premier said the Government had brought forward its planning reform package in a bid to stimulate the economy and create jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic. They will also include measures to cut red tape for small businesses wanting to start up or adapt and will introduce a new development application process for "significant" projects for the next 18 months to provide immediate support for the state’s economic recovery. These reforms allow us to clear that red tape away and ensure that we get major developers and minor developers and householders and small businesses the opportunity to get their projects underway far more quickly, Mr McGowan said.

01.01.2022 It's a story many West Aussie homeowners could relate to: Wanting to undertake a small project to improve your house, like just putting up a deck or a shade sai...l, but being forced into a time consuming process to get planning approval before going ahead. It's frustrating, and for some of those minor projects it just isn't a common sense approach. Yesterday, we announced the most significant overhaul of WA's planning system - ever. Among a range of other sensible changes for businesses and communities, we're slashing red tape to let homeowners get on with small projects to improve their properties. Specifically, we're putting in a state-wide framework of exemptions from planning approvals for minor works including minor extensions, patios, carports, shade sails and pergolas. Where required, building approvals will still apply, but those projects will no longer need to go through the planning approvals process with local governments. Additionally, the reforms include major changes to streamline the process for the approval of new homes, as well as delivering improved and consistent process for communities to have their say on planning issues. The changes also include changes to help small businesses and to speed up the process for getting major job-creating projects off the ground. Reforms to the planning system might sound a bit dry, but these are important and common-sense changes that will have a big impact for countless Western Australians. You can find out more about our planning reforms here: https://www.dplh.wa.gov.au//plan/covid-19-planning-reforms
