According to the report their top major business concerns are being paid on time, profitability and the ability to pay bills and manage cashflow. Not really any surprise to me. Most of the tradies I speak to have the same issues when they come to me. However, financial management is a learnable skill. Most tradies go into business for themselves to make more money and have more freedom in their life. Tradies are generally great tradesmen but have little business knowledge. 21.01.2022 I'm not just a Tradie's Wife! I'm his business partner! How many times as the women in the tradie business do we hear about being the tradie's wife or missus. I think we all agree that we are more than that but also not a tradie but what term do we have that describes our role? I don't own work boots. I like to wear dresses. I don't like having dirty hands. I prefer sitting in the aircon than working in the sun.... But without me our clients would be neglected. Jobs wouldn't get done. Bills wouldn't get paid. And the business probably wouldn't make any money. However when I answer the phone I usually am asked to put "him" on the phone. I had to justify why I should be paid for my role. Our team doesn't listen to me unless "HE" says. I feel as if this is a struggle quite unique in the tradie industry - well at least male dominated industries. People tend to put value on the people that are out performing the work and rightly so - fulfilment is an incredibly important part of our business and definitely needs a tradie. However I have a business degree. I am an accountant and a business coach. I have an internet marketing business. I am a leader. And most of all I am the director of first and lasting impressions in our tradie business.

17.01.2022 Isn't it just amazing how much shit we can make up in our heads to stop us taking action? It's always something isn't it. I'm doing a lot of work on my own mindset right now - about letting go of what matters and only doing what does matter. Choosing to do what is important to me. So what is important to me? Two things immediately come to mind. I believe I have been put on this earth of inspire, support and empower women entrepreneurs to have the life they dream of. I ...also believe I have been put here to be a mother - nurturing, inspiring, teaching and empowering my children and others. This is who I am and this is what is important to me. What I am noticing is that whenever I am out of alignment with that purpose, I lose my confidence, I feel like a failure and like I let everyone down because I don't do what I "need" to do. Whenever I am in alignment with that purpose, I am in flow. I am happy, confident and I get shit down. What makes your heart and soul sing?

11.01.2022 I was listening to one of my favourite podcasts last night and I was reminded of the statistics that more than 50% of small businesses in Australia fail in the first 5 years - more than 30% don't even make it through the first year. Financial mismanagement is one of the top 5 reasons businesses fail. CASHFLOW!... Many of the business owners I speak to don't have a reliable way to predict their cashflow in advance - meaning they are flying by the seat of their ass most of the time, paying things when they can, unable to make reliable payment plans as they really don't know how much money they will have next week. Cashflow issues are caused by different things depending on the stage of the business. In the early stages it is usually caused by a lack of sales but the primary reason businesses fail after the first year is actually growth.. The business grows but the business owner doesn't have the skills to plan for growth. They don't know the when, what and how of bringing on a team. As a result they end up not being able to pay the wages, pay rent and then as soon as customers don't pay on time, that really brings them unstuck. 10.01.2022 Yesterday, I was sitting with a new client, trying to help her sort out her finances in her business both personal and business. Something I do pretty regularly. What stands out to me about a lot of these meetings is the lengths we go to subconsciously to distract ourselves from the things we fear. Before we got into talking finances, we talked business. What was going on, what her plans were, etc. This is a grounded, switched on lady with big exciting plans. However as ...soon as the conversation turned to money or finances or record keeping or god forbid tax, she turned scatty, unfocused. She was on her phone checking emails, looking at facebook, anything to avoid the conversation I was trying to have with her. This is really such a common thing. Why and how can a conversation about finances turn a strong, intelligent woman into a scatty, teenager? FEAR Money and finances is one of the biggest areas that women give away their power. You simply cannot run a successful business without having your finger on the pulse of your finances and having a consistent money practice. Knowing how much money you are making, how much you are spending, how much you owe and how much you own. This is a learnable skill! Please don't think that just because you feel like you aren't good at this, that you are a write off. You aren't. It is like walking. Before you learned to walk, it seemed so hard and yet everyone else was doing it. So you practiced and practiced and got stronger and better and now you walk and don't need to think about it. It is natural. Unconscious competence. You can also learn to be in control of your money situation. Available funding: Matched funding of up to $5,000 (excluding GST) may be provided to eligible businesses to engage a consultant, advisor or business coach for up to 3 months to help establish or develop the business. The minimum grant funding amount is $1,000.
