25.01.2022 This was a super fun remake using some well loved rings, into something practical, robust and also to represent the fun personality of my client. When buying jewellery in the 70s and 80s had "rules" and you were either a "yellow gold" guuurl or a "white gold" guurl.. I dont really like this rule so much and so we broke them. We then alloyed the yellow gold with equal parts rose gold and we now have this stunning vintage looking soft rose gold! . . . The design consult was... so fun and we had another really great option to work with, but super stoked with this outcome. My client brought one of her best friends along, and it was just a ball! I love remaking rings for clients who have embraced their own unique personalities and recreating their most prized possessions, their wedding rings, to represent themselves as they are, not what they "should be" is truly the most honourable compliment to me. My client wanted some texture and for her rings to be different, so we have this nicely forming soft ripple effect encompassing the band, which picks up different facets and catches the light, and a sneaky set of earrings to match. . . . 25.01.2022 HAND SANITISER Pearl Rings! I love them! They are super popular BUT we are noticing people are having issues with the pearls coming loose. Sarah and I have been wracking our brains trying to figure it out... THEN we had an epiphany!!... Most hand sanitisers have a super high ALCOHOL content and we are lathering our hands in this like, every 5 minutes and this is SUPER bad for pearl rings. WHY... Because I use alcohol to dissolve the chemical bond between the pearl and the metal. While short and irregular contact with alcohol is usually quite ok, constant exposure isn't. SO if you wear a pearl ring, please try to take it off each time you sanitise, not only will it effect the security of your pearl, consistent and prolonged use of alcohol will also shorten the life span of your pearl. It will be likely to look dull quicker and lack luster. Pearls are generally a dress piece and not best suited to every-day wear, so perhaps keep it for when you're going out to avoid the daily hustle with the #handsanilyfe which we are currently facing. Other things to avoid when wearing pearls are swimming, showering, washing up, using harsh chemicals/perfumes and manual labour. The golden rule with pearls is to put them on last and take them off first. While we are chatting about hand sanitiser, we are also noticing Rhodium Plating on white gold isn't quite lasting as long. Usually its an annual service for white gold rings, but its wearing a lot quicker with the constant sanitising. So just be mindful of your jewellery, particularly rings, with how they're being worn. Its kind of like driving your car through salt water without washing it and expecting the engine to be fine. While once or twice is ok, but consistently doing it will lead to issues. 22.01.2022 This engagement ring had a stunning upgrade recently, from an illusion setting using 4 smaller diamonds to make up a larger square, replaced with a gorgeous half carat princess cut diamond. 20.01.2022 Let's start Monday with love This meaningful engagement was months in the planning and making, sourcing a suitable sapphire from Georgia, USA the home state of my client and a sweet Tasmanian sapphire from my collection for his partner as accent stones. The main diamond is a 1ct super light Argyle Champagne diamond, set in 18ct rose gold mined here is Australia. My client had a really cool idea to incorporate gumleaves and they love the organic textured rings and have a sw...eet collection already. So we used the gum and bark inspired texture to create this sculptural engagement ring. A nod to the classic solitaire, but totally customised to suit both my clients style. I just love how much thought and meaning went into the proposal and this ring, to encompass their story and it is so clear how in love they are. This seasons theme is a coastal seascape, with Winter Solstice this Sunday its a time for new beginnings, rebirth and to celebrate the daylight slowly stretching out into summer. This window will transition and evolve as spring dawns on us. 15.01.2022 This spectacular remake was delivered last week and it was so so satisfying to hand over. If you saw my stories, this was my amazing day of delivering 2 big remakes for clients. It was a beautiful break in the stress of our current health climate and the joy this brought to my client and her family was such a gratifying experience. . . The brief on this was to keep the original diamond cluster configuration of the engagement ring, but to make it more modern, suitable for eve...ryday wear and something a little chunky. The original ring is quite fine, its was a mid 80s cluster claw setting and needed a little revamp. My clients tastes and style has developed over the years and we re-purposed a heavy rose gold chain, shortening it to a bracelet length, then using the surplus to create a wide polished hammered band. We went with a bezel look, in white gold, to enhance the diamond size and give it a practical low maintenance setting. The combination of rose and white gold is a favourite of mine. . . Simple 1.8mm fine band in 9ct yellow gold, off set 4 claw setting, so it would take a flat wedding ring or stacker on one side and a V shape ring on the other.. cool huh!? 09.01.2022 Who loves a ring renovation? This was not quite a full remake, but more than just a repair, an exception to the rule.The shank of this 18ct yellow gold ring was nice and solid, purchased from a commercial jewellers, the settings were only rhodium plated to give the illusion of being set in white gold. My client got sick of having it replated frequently to have it wear off again quickly. So with the central claws needing some TLC, we took the drastic step of pulling all the di...amonds out, soldered in some actual white gold to reset the diamonds in, and spruced up the worn out corner claws with a streamlined bezel, which actually enhances the size of the main princess cut diamond. This ring has a whole new lease on life! She came up an absolute treat, throw a pandemic in there to stretch out my already drawn out timeline and I had a stoked client with what looks like a brand new ring! . . . I am not taking in new repairs for the foreseeable future. If you havent read my latest blog, I suggest you pop on the website and have a read. 06.01.2022 Thank you for an incredible year on the bench. It truly has been like no other. 2020 has made creative minds work hard to keep things working in some really trying times. My solo show became an amazing team of two with the addition of @sarahmbeckett . We created some absolute knock out pieces for my clients, we implemented some much needed systems and overhauled the website and added a sister brand to NVJ - @silver__solstice 2021 is going to start with a bang with a featur...e in @countrystylemag , I was lucky enough to have not one, but 2 amazing shoots with @lucychampion and currently having some well needed rest on my part so I can start creating fresh ideas and visions for us moving forward into the new year. This year wouldn't have been the success it was without the support and encouragement from my clients, following, friends and family. I'm so stoked to see what 2021 brings, we are aiming for a more streamlined process, taking more time for creative work and trying to cut down wait times where possible. Thank you doesn't seem enough, this was my dream 3 years ago and with a whole lot of hard work, a shit tonne of hard lessons, I am here. There have definitely been moments of wanting to give up, but having an amazing support network has helped me through those times. 2021 is going to be a ripper, let's get this show on the road!! 05.01.2022 I've been working with Switch Tasmania getting some business mentoring over the last 12 months or so. I was really stoked to be asked to share my story and have it made into a film to present to Federal Government. Have a watch, I've had some pretty overwhelming times and if it wasn't for the help I received and the procedures Julie help put in place, I probably would have closed due to stress and high demand. There was no way for me to increase from 90hrs weeks, so we stri...pped back and re built the systems. The new systems may not suit everyone, but its the only way for my business to move forward while keeping my health a priority. I love what I do, I want to keep the business thriving, but it won't thrive without me. The film goes into this.
