25.01.2022 ~Teaching is a work of the heart~ As a team of educators we have been honoured to share the journey of learning and development with many children and families. In the past month we have seen children who began when we first opened in 2016, now graduating and leaving for Pre Primary and school Kindy. We have cherished the kind words and living gifts as memories and reminders of the wonderful times together as we move into 2020.

21.01.2022 The Toddler children worked with their educators to load the car and make our first drop off at the Riverton Electoral Office for the Vinnies WA Christmas Appeal. We are very thankful for the donations of food items already given, and we were running out of space under the tree. We filled the boot and the passenger seat and Mike Nahan was very thankful for the first delivery. We are still collecting until Monday the 2nd of December at 9am when we will make the final delivery. You are welcome to deliver straight to the Riverton Electoral office, or keep filling the baskets under the Nido Giving Tree. See list attached of items than can be donated. Thank you for your amazing generosity so far.

20.01.2022 Today is the first day of National Reconciliation Week. Nido Early School Willetton acknowledges the Noongar people as Traditional Custodians of the Whadjuk land on which we meet, live, and play. We pay our respects to the Elders and Noongar people past, present and future. We would like to make special mention to some of the people who have been inspiring all of us at Nido Willetton over a number of years. Urban Indigenous, Aboriginal Dancers Koolangkas Kreate - KoolgangK...uz Kreate, Noongar Language Centre have all played an instrumental role in our developing understandings through workshops, resources, education, and inspiring conversation. #InThisTogether2020 #NRW2020 Reconciliation WA

20.01.2022 During a walk at the local park the children were concerned to see a lost bike. Displaying active citizenship and caring the children sprung into action and knew they needed to tell someone. After reporting the lost bike we had officers attend Nido Early School Willetton, taking the bike and spending time with the children explaining the work they do in the community. In a gesture of appreciation, the Kindergarten children wrote letters and drew pictures for the wonderful of...ficers at Cannington Police Station. The stickers from the officers have come in handy and our Kindergarten junior recruits have been issuing tickets and enforcing the law around Nido. Thank you to the team at Cannington District - WA Police Force for turning a lost bike into a wonderful learning opportunity and helping the children to recognise the important work of the WA Police.

19.01.2022 This is a really simple way to think about self-care during this time of uncertainty. Our children have really been enjoying the Corona the Virus Story to help them understand in a serious but not scary way. This story can be located here if you would like to view this in your home language: www.mindheart.co/descargables mindheart.kids

16.01.2022 While the library cannot have us visit at the moment, they are working hard on ensuring children and families can still access rhyme time and storytime! Tune in on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am. We are looking forward to taking the children again and they always looked forwards to excursions to the library for storytime and rhyme time.

15.01.2022 With National Reconciliation Week fast approaching, we have an opportunity to reflect on our current journey towards reconciliation. National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. This does not happen overnight or during one week of isolated experiences, but over meaningful conversations and spont...aneous moments of learning at any opportunity that arises. Just this morning we spoke of the seasonal changes during Djeran and were surprised by a Djiti Djiti who has been visiting daily on the street. The Reconciliation Week theme this year is In This Together, acknowledging every one of us has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation. The question the Willetton team will be asking over the coming weeks is, what will our reconciliation focus be for the year to come? Post your ideas below

08.01.2022 After a spontaneous conversation that emerged last week and some made up songs, we decided with the children that this would be a Sparkle Week at Willetton. This was inspired by children wearing shiny and glittery shoes and then deciding we should all dress up with sparkles, rainbows, and shiny outfits. We were blessed with the sparkles and bright outfits each child and educator wore to brighten up our days. What a perfect week for rainbows and sparkles as the Rainbow Trail ...Australia movement took off. We finished the week by creating our own rainbows on the path as you enter our service. We are looking forward to creating more in the weeks to come. Stay sparkly everyone!

06.01.2022 We would like to thank Councilor - Yaso Ponnuthurai for attending our Nido Willetton 3rd Birthday Celebration on Saturday the 6th July 2019. We would also like to thank our wonderful visitors from Aboriginal Dancers Koolangkas Kreate - KoolgangKuz Kreate who helped us mark the occasion.

03.01.2022 The Kinder children have been captivated by the books and posters from the Noongar Language Centre. We have had a particular interest in the local djerup (birds) who visit us throughout the day and what their names were. We talked about birds we had seen at the park, at our house, and at Nido. We then read Noongar stories about the Koorlbardi (magpie) and the Waardong (Crow) and their conversation with a Djiti Djiti (Willy wagtail) and a big disagreement they had. The story ...shared how each of the birds got their colours. The childrens confidence has grown in their ability to name the birds and they have also integrated this into their play, creating their own Djiti Djiti dance moves, Waardong calls and re-enacting the history they are learning about. We are very thankful for the work and dedication of the Noongar Language Centre in keeping the Noongar language alive. We couldnt do this without you. #InThisTogether2020 #NRW2020

03.01.2022 The AUSSIE BACKYARD BIRD COUNT count is nearly over, and with two days to go there is still time for your family to be involved in this citizen science project. The children and educators have been actively counting and observing the birds at Nido Early School and at the local park. This is a great way to learn more about the world around us and develop appreciation and respect for the natural world.

01.01.2022 This year we will be participating in the Backyard Bird Count for the first time. This is a citizen science project and the data we collected assists BirdLife Australia in understanding more about the birds that live in our communities across Australia. With the Nido Willetton children already keen bird observers at the service and the local park, we are excited to document our findings and participate in this initiative. Download the app and join us and many others across Australia in participating from the 19-25th October. https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/
