23.01.2022 Reconciliation Garden To commemorate National Sorry Day we planted a lilac hibiscus plant in our Reconciliation garden. These plants are recognised by the National Stolen Generations Alliance as the official symbol for Sorry Day. This purple flower was adopted because it is a survivor, found widely across Australia with the colour denoting compassion and spiritual healing. This plant flowers in spring and can be found all over the South-West of Western Australia. #nidoearl...yschool #ReconciliationWeek Nido Early School See more

22.01.2022 We all need hope. Humans have an extraordinary capacity to battle through adversity, but only if they have something to cling onto: a belief or hope that maybe, one day, things will be better. This idea sparked The Great Realisation. Sharing the truths we may find hard to tell but also celebrating the thingsfrom simple acts of kindness and finding joy in everyday activities, to the creativity within us allthat have brought us together during lockdown, it gives us hope in th...is time of global crisis. We now call it The Great Realization and, yes, since then there have been many. But that’s the story of how it started . . . and why hindsight’s 2020. ...What great realisations have you had because of COVID-19? #nidoearlyschoolaveley #nidoearlyschool

19.01.2022 Loose parts play Loose parts are basically any loose, tactile materials and found objects that children can move about during play and exploration. They’re versatile, open-ended and can be added to any learning environment for children to adapt and to turn into anything their imagination allows. Children can use loose parts to make, build, experiment and invent. Loose parts also invite children to explore and discover, imagine and create, enquire and experiment, play and ti...nker about as they build on their developmental skills in a supportive learning environment. Using loose parts in the learning environment encourages growth in all areas of development. Loose parts give children the freedom to arrange and rearrange, essentially using the parts to create their own rules and designs, which allows the focus of the experience to be on the process rather than the product. #nidoearlyschool #nidoearlyschoolaveley #loosepartsplay

11.01.2022 Happy Easter to our Nido Aveley children and families. Although the Easter Bunny has held down the job of delivering all the world’s chocolate Easter eggs, in Australia these bunnies (although cute) aren’t a part of our native ecosystems. Sadly, the emergence of introduced cohabitants continues to threaten the survival of the Bilby and other native Australian animals, by altering their habitat and consuming native food sources. ... So rather than celebrating the Easter bunny, we teach our children about the Australian Easter Bilby or Djalkat as named by the Noongar people. Each year we adopt a Bilby from Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre as part of our Easter ritual.

09.01.2022 Reconciliation Week 2021 Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part as we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Isla...nder peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. A week to celebrate Australia's shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. 03.01.2022 Kambarang Transformational time of the year | October & November Kamabarng is the wildflower season with many yellow flowers, orchids, kangaroo paws and banksias in bloom. Even the Balgas will flowers, especially if they have been burnt in the past year. One of the most striking displays of flowers at this time of year is the Mooja or Australian Christmas Tree, whose bright orange/yellow flowers signal that heat is on its way.... As many things are undergoing transformation with the warm change in the weather and longer dry periods, October is a time of the year you are most likely to encounter a snake. Reptiles at this time are emerging from hibernation and look to make the most of the warm weather to assist them in getting enough energy to look for food.

02.01.2022 At Nido Early School Aveley, based on the principles of the documentation style of Reggio Emilia learning centres, we consider the display of children’s artwork to be ‘a form of communication’ between children and adults. Today two of our youngest citizens gathered in front of their work; pointing, touching, talking, laughing. These moments highlight the importance of how we display our children’s work. #nidoearlyschool ... #nidoearlyschoolaveley See more
