25.01.2022 Over the past few weeks our children have been exploring "The Bear Hunt" together. This journey has taken us through re-enacting the story, creating our own bear hunts and now to creating our themed sensory bottles to mirror the story. At Nido Banksia Grove we believe that Early Literacy opportunities are vital for brain development, speech, social concepts and connecting with each other. Our village was invited to join and explore the 100 ways in which the children think, create and imagine. When ideas meet with hands, extraordinary things happen. 15.01.2022 There are many benefits of children playing with playdough including developing fine motor skills, creativity, vocabulary, literacy and numeracy and much more. Playdough also: Motivates children to explore its sensory qualities while engaging in meaningful play opportunities. Strengthens small fingers, hands and wrists through fine motor exploration. Builds children's imagination as they play with it they explore the 100 languages. ... Developing self-esteem - no right or wrong to play It's calming and helps children relieve stress through manipulation. Involving them in making the dough and discussing things like colour and texture, and what happens when liquids are added provides concepts of early mathematics and science. 14.01.2022 Bringing Learning to LIGHT The nursery room incorporated the festival of lights into their curriculum to explore Diwali, which marks the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. At Nido Banksia Grove we recognise cultural celebrations are an enriching experience for children, educators and families. Cultural experiences are incorporated in a sensitive and respectful manner and provide an opportunity for children to develop respect diverse values and beliefs, as they learn about practices which are different to their own.

14.01.2022 Today we conducted our final practice fire drill for 2019 at Nido Banksia Grove. All educators and children were very responsive and acted quickly to exit the premises in safe and calm manner. We also had a parent volunteer who happened to be dropping off at the time also participate in the drill with us all. At Nido Banksia Grove as part of our philosophy and commitment to exceeding occupational health and safety standards. We conduct monthly fire drills to ensure all reasonable precautions and adequate measures are adopted at the service, in the event if a real emergency did occur.

13.01.2022 Today we rescued our new friend Larry the Lizard. The children were curious and enthusiastic learners as we conducted research to learn and discover more about our new friend. Here are some of the interesting facts we uncovered alongside our Kindy children. * Larry is a dwarf bearded dragon * Their life expectancy is 10 years * They survive on vegetation and lots of natural sunlight Pop into the Kindy room to meet Larry the Lizard!

12.01.2022 Today all our children enjoyed connecting with National Simultaneous Storytime. This is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Following our story time, our passionate Educators provided space related provocations to extend upon the 2021 book 'Give me some space'.

Today we conducted a few experiments to further extend our knowledge on hand hygiene practices, One of which included the power of soap to protect us. To try this experiment at home you will need the following ingredients - Milk - cinnamon... - soap Step 1- add milk and cinnamon to a bowl, place your hand in the bowl and watch how the cinnamon sticks to it as you remove it Step 2- add soap to your hands Step 3- complete step one again and see the power of soap!

08.01.2022 Manipulating clay in our Atelier is just one of the many hundred languages we foster here. Today our Kindy and Toddler children enjoyed integrating nature into clay to create their own masterpieces. Manipulating (squishing, squeezing, pulling, pushing, etc) a piece of clay, improves dexterity, fosters eye-hand coordination and builds a child's ability to focus while expressing themselves creatively. 07.01.2022 Today the Toddlers and Kindy children had the opportunity to explore a vintage fire truck courtesy of SETS Enterprises. The children got to hear the sirens, see the lights flashing and try out the water hose. A big thank you to the Broadbent family for making this possible.
