25.01.2022 Today is World Bee Day Being one of the major pollinators, thus ensuring food and food security, sustainable agriculture and biodiversity, bees significantly contribute to the mitigation of climate change and environmental conservation. In the long-term, the protection of bees and the beekeeping sector can help reduce poverty and hunger, as well as preserve a healthy environment and biodiversity. Scientific studies have proven that bees have become increasingly endangered. It is only through joint efforts that we can ensure the protection of bees and their habitats
25.01.2022 A day in the life of our Nursery room
25.01.2022 Nursery Two have been exploring the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, by Michael Rosen. Learning with our senses, we used our map play mat with sensory bags secured. These bags included materials which represented the different obstacles we come across during our hunt. Playing the book audio and using our hands we worked our way around the board until we reached the bear in the cave ... To extend this we will be making a walk through sensory tray with the materials for the children to walk through together. I wonder what we will find...

23.01.2022 One of our very brave Mums is going pink in June for the National Breast Cancer Foundation so we are helping her to raise some much needed funds by having a donation box in the foyer for any loose change, be it notes or coins, that anyone can spare. Its estimated that over 76,000 Australians will lose a direct family member to breast cancer by 2030. But that doesnt have to be the case. By funding world-class research, we are helping the Foundation in saving lives. Their uncompromised mission: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. #ZeroBy2030 Please give generously

Here at Nido Canning Vale communication with families is a key element in our philosophy as we understand families are the first teacher to their children. Each day our opening staff update this educator board with any staff absences for all children and families to see upon arrival at our service. This is one way we embed Quality Area 4 from the National Quality Standards.

17.01.2022 At Nido Canning Vale, our vision for Reconciliation reads: 'As we are at the beginning our reconciliation journey, many of us are still learning about reconciliation and its importance. Because of this, we are committed to learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories, and ways of being. As part of our reconciliation journey, we are committed to building positive relationships with our local Noongar, and wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, communities, in order to achieve a deeper understanding and respect for their cultures and histories. Through these relationships, we hope to work together to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our daily curriculums and centre routines, so that we can share this knowledge with our children and families.'

As pictured, this week we have been exploring the letter Ss and the sound it makes through sensory experiences. The salt sensory tray was filled with hidden images of all things starting with Ss ... The slime sensory tray was set up for discovery of the slime with the stretchy texture along with the snakes and spiders How many objects can you see starting with the letter Ss?
10.01.2022 This week in Kinder we are learning about X-Ray art, which is an art style often used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. To begin our exploration we used the projector to look at different X-rays, and even experimented with placing different items on the projector to see what would happen. While doing this we discussed what we could see and we thought the different X-rays were of. We also looked at different X-ray artworks and compared them to some of the different X-rays. Then we were offered the opportunity to create our own artworks inspired by the X-rays and X-ray artworks.

09.01.2022 Yesterday marked day one of Reconciliation Week 2021. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part as we collectively build relationships and communities that value Abori...ginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. A week to celebrate Australia's shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. 09.01.2022 Mabo Day occurs annually on 3 June. It commemorates Eddie Koiki Mabo (c. 29 June 193621 January 1992), a Torres Strait Islander whose campaign for Indigenous land rights led to a landmark decision of the High Court of Australia that, on 3 June 1992, overturned the legal fiction of terra nullius which had characterised Australian law with regards to land and title since the voyage of James Cook in 1770. Today is Mabo Day. During our morning mat session in Kinder we spoke about Eddie Koiki Mabo, and why today is such an important day. Then we were given the opportunity to paint our very own portrait of Mabo
08.01.2022 Please join us for morning tea to celebrate Diwali, the Indian festival of lights.
08.01.2022 Today is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served". Anzac Day was originally devised to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli Campaign, their first engagement in the First World War (19141918). LEST WE FORGET

07.01.2022 In Nursery two we have been exploring our senses. For the month of April we looked at our nose. Our noses are great for smelling yummy food and sometimes yucky smells. Using a cotton pad we put a drop of an oil on each one and allowed the children to explore freely. We were able to see lots official expressions such as smiles and sometimes curled up noses. We looked at smells such as lemongrass, orange, blue eucalyptus and lime. To extend on this we will be looking at our hands and what wonders they do for our body in the month of May

06.01.2022 Creating meaningful mealtimes has been a big focus at our service. Our purpose-built Piazza is used by children between the age of 16months-5 years. To create ambience, we added candles to the tables as a centerpiece. After many learning conversations around fire safety, the children now often ask for the 'fire' on their tables. We have partnered with @mysticwicksau to ensure we are burning only natural materials whilst supporting a local small business.

On Sorry Day we also learned that we say sorry to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander friends because they are still upset and hurt by what happened in the past -Reading books written by and/or about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples -Paintings and drawings inspired by the artwork in some of the books we have been reading throughout Reconciliation week -Puzzles depicting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples -Playdough with Australian animals. We have been learning both the English and Noongar names for these animals -Nature collages using leaves found on the ground (We don't want to pick them from the trees because it will hurt them) We are going to continue embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, cultures and ways of being into our curriculum, as part of our ongoing journey towards Reconciliation
