25.01.2022 H A L L O W E E N This week we added a touch of Halloween to our home corner and made it a little haunted ready for our dress up day on Friday. The children have been very excited about celebrating this day, we’ve had lots of discussions about why and how people celebrate Halloween ... We have begun making and writing some spells, mixing some interesting ingredients to make potions, exploring Halloween inspired sensory trays, making spiders webs, helping haunt the home corner and making lots of decorations for the room.

23.01.2022 As apart of our philosophy we recognise that families are a child’s first and most influential teacher and that working in partnerships with families will provide a basis of achieving high quality outcomes for children. Thanks to our families that have joined us with our phone interviews this week. Our Educators have valued the opportunity to be able to share achievements and goals with you.

17.01.2022 Our children in the Toddlers room have taken a large interest in jungle animals at the moment. Our team provide children with open ended and loose part materials throughout the programs, enabling them to make decisions and take ownership and lead their learning through play. Open ended play helps stretch children’s cognitive and creative skills through the use of their imagination and allows them to explore these and allow educators to scaffold children’s ideas.

11.01.2022 This week at Nido Early School Waurn Ponds we are acknowledging NAIDOC WEEK (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee). Although Indigenous Culture is embedded in our every day practice and program, we acknowledge the First Nations people and allow the children to begin to learn about the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. This week we have been collecting and looking at Indigenous flora and fauna and this ...has inspired our play and our creative art experiences with tea being made, drawings and paintings of this foliage being created and natural materials being added to playdough. We have explored clay, play dough, natural materials, the Aboriginal Flag, aboriginal art and images of aboriginal people and tools, along with camping in the Australian bush corner, completing Indigenous puzzles, looking at and copying tracking symbols and art and reading dreamtime stories as well as continuing our Acknowledgement to country on a daily basis.

08.01.2022 Today in kinder 1 we are practicing being more sustainable in our learning environments by using recycled materials and embracing the season of spring and what is growing in our gardens. The children have assisted by collecting leaves and foliage to add to our weaving. There have been many discussions about colour and using our fingers to help the foliage to go under the string. Some children returned to work on their weaving multiple times while others stayed at this learning experience until they had filled their loom. These colourful weaving have been placed on display on our Piazza for the children to share with the families and staff.
