21.01.2022 Spring is just around the corner. People tend to leave till the last moment Hay fever and spring asthma issues until they are suffering badly. However, August is a good time to see your doctor to get preventative advice and an asthma review to stop the "tissues: and "puffing". Bendigo has one of the worst rates of hay fever and asthma in the country and it is only going to get worse.

20.01.2022 Great news!!! The shingles vaccine, Zostavax, is now provided free of charge to people aged 70 years. There will also be a five year catch-up program for people aged 71 79 years. Shingles is a painful blistering rash caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus the same virus that causes chickenpox. Causing inflammation of the nerves and sometimes severe and prolonged pain in the affected region. Vaccination with Zostavax can help prevent Shingles.... Call the clinic today on 5446 1220 to arrange an appointment for your free ZOSTAVAX immunisation :)

18.01.2022 Is it too late to have the flu shot??? If you have not noticed, not only has the weather been very cold, but flu season has definitely hit Bendigo very Hard! Even some nursing homes are "Shut Down" to visitors. But it isn't too late to have the flu shot if you haven't already had it. Especially if you have a history of heart disease, asthma, emphysema, going overseas or do not want to miss work?, previous cancer, or over 65 years of age.... It takes 2 weeks for the flu shot to work, however the flu season does not end until October!!! Feel free to ring our friendly staff or talk to your doctor next time you are in.

For any questions, please feel free to give as a call during the new Clinic Hours.

01.01.2022 It is that time of the year again where people suffer hay fever and asthma due to Spring. We have also been very busy with lots of people suffering the flu but thankfully this is all over. A recent journal article is in the conversation, a well known evidence based website says too many people are using Ventolin (salbutamol) frequently. The article concludes that this is alarming, suggesting that there are many people at risk of uncontrolled asthma.... In the next few months with spring being upon us, we will be asking our patients about their asthma and what they use - unfortunately a lot of people are unaware that they should have spirometry (lung function tests) if they suffer from regular and frequent asthma, are better off on a preventative inhaler and also can benefit from an asthma management plan. It was distressing to hear from the Bendigo Advertiser about the increased risk of pregnancy complications due to obesity in women. This is not only a health problem but an economic one. There are a lot of things that can help this issue - counselling, a dietitian and fitness classes as well as medications. If you are obese and concerned please do not feel embarrassed to raise the issue with us, as we are interested to help. We welcome Patrick Taylor as our new practice manager and thank Alan Peacock for his help as he leaves and retires to his love of cars and motorbikes (I am of course envious). Dr Teddy Chan

01.01.2022 Hope everybody stays safe over the weekend, looking out the window looks like it may get a bit wet, our tip for the weekend - if its flooded - forget it :)
